The Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduled for 2020 have been postponed to 2021 by the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and local organisers in Tokyo.
This was as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
It means that the bodies behind Team GB and Para GB now have to re-organise their arrangements and logistics for the games. It also means UK Sport - the Government Agency which manages the funding of sport in this country now needs to look at how to fund Olympic and Paralympic sport through to 2021.
In this episode of Medals and More, the chair of UK Sport Dame Katherine Grainger speaks to the respective CEO's of the organisations responsible for dealing with the current challenges. She is joined by Andy Anson - the CEO of the British Olympic Association, Mike Sharrock - the CEO of the British Paralympic Association and Sally Munday - the CEO of UK Sport.
The podcast was recorded in mid-April 2020 with all the participants joining the discussion remotely from home.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is now due to take place exactly one year later in Japan, following the unprecedented postponement of the Games due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic across the world.
In this episode of Medals and More, the podcast getting behind the scenes of Olympic & Paralympic sport, 5 time Olympic medalist and now UK Sport chair, Dame Katherine Grainger catches up with Team GB's 'Chef De Mission' Mark England.
They discuss what the 'chef's' role is, the impact, at the once unthinkable delay to an Olympics, is having on athletes and support staff and why its the case some British competitors still know they've been selected to represent Team GB, while others will have to wait til after lockdown to prove themselves.

Anne is a British Paralympic wheelchair racer and is one of just a handful of black females that sit on a British sport board - among 415 board members in the sector.
Sally is Chief Executive Officer at Wimbledon, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, having previously held the roles of Strategic Planning & Operations Director and Head of Corporate Affairs the Club. She has been a member of the UK Sport Major Events Panel since 2013 and is a current member on UK Sport's board.

In this episode, Katherine speaks to two Great British Winter Olympians who've dealt with their fair share of misfortune.
Elise Christie is a 10 time European short-track speed skating champion, and 3 time Olympian. But at Sochi 2014 and four years later in Pyeongchang, her hopes of podium success were dashed on the ice. Now, ahead of Beijing 2022, she tells Katherine of her rediscovered love for the sport!
David Murdoch is also gearing up for the Winter Games as Olympic head coach for British Curling, with all the challenges the Covid-19 pandemic brings. But as an athlete he also put behind him the disappointment of a 4th and 5th place finish at the Olympics, to 'skip' the team to silver success in Sochi!

This is Medals & More – the podcast getting you behind the scenes of Olympic & Paralympic sport.
In this episode, Katherine Grainger is joined by Cheavon Clarke, Lora Fachie & Jon Dutton to discuss community, and in-particular, the role elite sport can play in it. British Olympic and Paralympic athletes are quite rightly often praised for their performances on the world stage, but what about their efforts closer to home? How can major sporting events held here in the UK help energise the local area? And what do sports do to inspire the next generation?
Cheavon is a British boxer who will be looking to compete for Team GB at next year’s Olympic Games, having won a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Also that year Chev raised funds and organised the rejuvenation of the boxing club where he started his career. Lora made her Paralympic debut at London 2012, and also competed at Rio 2016 where she came away with one gold, and a bronze medal. Away from competing, Lora has also been a member of the BPA Athletes’ Commission for nearly four years. And Jon is CEO of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, which kicks-off in Newcastle in less than a year, and he hopes the event can also deliver off the pitch to the local communities it's held in!

Many parts of the world are now addressing issues of race and racism like never before, and the world of sport is no exception.
In this episode, the first of season 2 of Medals and More, 5 time Olympic medalist and chair of UK Sport, Dame Katherine Grainger is joined by two prominent campaigners in British sport, for an open and honest conversation about the issues that have existed in sport, but also the work that is being done to improve diversity across the Olympic and Paralympic sector.
Chris Grant is an independent board member at Sport England, whose on a commission looking at the future of women’s sport and amongst many other roles, Chris was deputy chair of London 2012’s international and development programme. Michelle Moore is a former athlete now an award winning leadership coach, consultant and international speaker. A trustee of The Runnymeade Trust – the UK’s leading race equality think-tank, advises the Women’s Sport Trust, Sports Aid and Sport England and has been voted one of the UK’s 50 most influential women in sport.
Listen in as they discuss Black History Month, some of the diversity work that is being done in the UK's high-performance system but also the need to encourage open minds and more action.
