I was at a crossroads as I approached the end of high school, and I had to make a decision that would determine the course of my future. On the one hand, I was passionate about storytelling and considered pursuing a degree in that field. On the other hand, I was fascinated by science and all its possibilities and was contemplating whether to take that path instead. In this episode, I share my story of discovering photography as a child. Growing up with a hearing impairment and partial blindness, I had to find ways to channel my curiosity and explore the world around me. In this special episode of The Curious Lens, my mom shares my personal story of surviving a deadly case of meningitis as a one-year-old baby, and how it resulted in my becoming DeafBlind. I will take you on a journey through my Hero's Journey, starting when I was only one year old and spent a month in the hospital, half of that time in the ICU. You will discover how my experience as a survivor led to a long road to recovery and rehabilitation, ultimately resulting in my discovery of photography.
