Our guest today is Phil Cooke. He's president of Cooke Media Group in Burbank California and he's been an influencer on the television and media market with a focus on faith-based organizations. Phil is also an author with several best selling books including "The One Big Thing"
Phil will ask us 4 questions to help us find the one thing we were meant to do in life:

  1. What comes easy for you, what did you do when you were young everyone said you were good at.
  2. What do you love: what makes you happy and brings you joy. That will give you the energy to make it through.
  3. What drives you crazy, most people like working on things they want but for many people like working on something they don't like, passion for helping impoverish, homeless, or just a need that isn't being met. TD Jakes, "Your ministry is your misery."
  4. What do you want to leave behind? How do you want to be remembered when you're gone.

Phil shares that he lived in fear for years that he didn't focus on his accounting as a business owner. It wasn't until he was shown it wasn't in his gift set, so it's ok to focus on what your good at rather trying to be better on what you're not good at.

Marketing Media & Cupcakes - Transforming Customer Service to a Customer Experience Part 2
play

10/10/19 • 25 min

Angel presents her 4 "Don'ts" for you to transform your customer service into a customer experience.
Interrupt: This is a bad thing in general conversation but definitely not smart when dealing with your customers. If a customer is trying to ask a question or explain a situation let them finish their thoughts. I know this is hard for some people. You want to jump to the solution or make an assumption on what the customer needs. A large amount of time will be wasted if you don’t take the time to get to the heart of what the customer is asking.

Blame Game: If you are attempting to resolve an issue for your customer, blaming others will make you and your company look bad. Take ownership for the situation and apologize for it. I am not saying you personally are to blame but telling the customer you are sorry for the situation or you understand how frustrating the issue may be is highly effective. However, telling a customer some department or group of people are to blame is cowardly. Keep the issues simple and stick to the facts. Blaming gets you know where quickly.

Taking it personally: This is a tough one. If someone is yelling at you or saying, “you did this or that”, it can be hard to take. Keep calm and listen. Wait for the customer to finish their thoughts and go from there. If a customer becomes verbally abusive you are within your rights to polity tell the customer, you will not be able to help them if they continue to behave in that manner or use certain language. This is always a 50 50 shot on how the customer will respond. The hope is always the customer will realize they need to keep thing professional.

“Can you hold please”: This can be effective when you need to sneeze, cough or ask someone else a question. But always be sure to ask the customer if you can put them on hold and if they agree give them some idea of how long you will be gone. Nothing can escalate a seemingly normal interaction quicker than putting a customer on hold for a lengthy period of time. This could turn what would have been a normal interaction into one you would rather not have.

Marketing Media & Cupcakes - Email Best Practices

Email Best Practices

Marketing Media & Cupcakes

play

01/15/21 • 42 min

Email remains the most accepted way to connect with business communications. Even more so after 2020 and social media platforms becoming less reliable for existing. Angel reviews her best practices for composing emails.
1) Be clear and concise
2) Proofread
3) Copy back important point or responses
4) Use subject lines keywords to get attention
5) Don't say anything you don't want to regret later
6) If the email has to bounce back and forth more than 3 times, call them.
John repeats the phone calls and emails are still best practices for "first contact" situations with clients or customers. If someone DMs you on LinkedIn or Facebook, direct them to email you at your address.
If people contact you via text or some other platform, tell them your best way to contact you is (is a phone, email, cellphone)
If your cellphone is not for business tell your customers if you give them it, please only use it for emergencies.
Check your email daily. If your business email is on a website or on your business card, and you don't check it often, then remove it from those contacts. You are paid to solve problems
not creating ones but having customers worried that you didn't get a message.
