Shannon Miller - Olympic History Maker and Cancer Survivor
Manage the Moment: Conversations in Performance Psychology
04/27/20 • 75 min
Shannon Miller knows what it's like to face uncontrollable factors that sideline even the greatest of champions. A seven time Olympic medalist, she is a member of eight Halls of Fame, and she's the only female athlete to have ever been inducted to the Olympic Hall of Fame - Twice! Her tally of five gold medals at the Barcelona Olympic Games was the most medals won by a U. S. Athlete in any sport at that games. And as far as Olympic medals go, she is the most decorated Olympic gymnast, male or female, in U. S. History. Shannon and I spoke about the mindset that she developed on her way to becoming an Olympic champion, and that she later turned to and relied on while navigating life's challenges off the mat - in the form of injury, early retirement and later, a life threatening cancer diagnosis. Shannon's goal is to bring inspiration to those who are struggling, as well as those who could improve their lives through a gold medal mindset.

Alicia "Lovely" Previn - American Violinist, Songwriter, & Recording Artist
Manage the Moment: Conversations in Performance Psychology
03/22/20 • 75 min
Alicia Previn has lived most interesting life. She began playing the violin when she was about seven years old and was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She grew to be an accomplished instrumentalist having been, as she puts it, "born into music". If her last name sounds familiar, it's because she shares it with her late father, Andre' Previn, Academy Award winner and composer, who was tremendously influential in film and music for the better part of eight decades. But Alicia found her own path. Granted, it took some unusual turns through the experience of living in a cult environment as teen, but later weaved her way in through multiple roles in music as an instrumentalist, singer, composer and teacher.

Manage the Moment: Conversations in Performance Psychology
01/30/20 • 69 min
Jincy Willett has been called the "high priestess of dark comedy", Her humor, it's been said, displays and unfailing perfect sense of timing. Comedian David Sedaris has said that he would be willing to wear a sandwich-board with Jincy's name on it if that would help draw people to her work - her writing is that good. Jincy Willett's work will make you laugh, yes, but it will also surprise you., catch you off guard, make you think. Jincy invests in her readers, delights them, and she was kind enough to invest some of her time with me recently as we discussed her creative process and approach to her work. I hope you'll truly enjoy this conversation with the uniquely talented author, Jincy Willett
