John Wicks with Wicks Woodworks
Maker Lounge Podcast
07/07/23 • 39 min
Despite his self-proclaimed lack of woodworking skills, today’s guest does make some great projects in the shop. He and his partner-in-crime, PHK, bring a laugh to my Instagram feed on a daily basis, and I’m excited to talk to him. John Wicks with @wicks_woodworks is here in the Maker Lounge.

Product Design and Working with Brands
Maker Lounge Podcast
09/30/22 • 49 min
I’m joined today in the lounge by Pete, Trey, and Rod. Last week we talked a lot about CNCs and Lasers, and I introduced a game we’ll play again in this episode called “Yes or No.” Thanks for hanging out with us in the lounge. I hope you enjoyed the premier episode last week with these guys. Initially I was going to break this up into two parts, but there was so much to take away from this conversation, this will be part two of three. So, make sure you save our podcast to your library so you can be notified when the next episode drops, but we’re picking the conversation up where we left off last time and moving into talking about brands.
Thanks for listening to the podcast today. You can find Pete on Instagram @petesquared23, Trey is @handcrafted_by_trey, Rod is @themountainmakers, and I am @voeltnerwoodworking. All of our links will be posted in the show notes. Come back next week and hear the four of us talk about a topic any busy content creator can relate to, and that is balancing priorities. In this world where there are so many competing priorities with family and work, we’ve all decided to push forward on content creation. Listen in next week to hear how each of us works our side hustle into our busy lives. It’s another great episode, so you won’t want to miss it. Please take a moment to give us a review of this podcast or send us some ideas for future episodes by sending a DM to me on Instagram @makerloungepodcast or send an email to [email protected]. Thanks again for tuning in and we’ll catch you in the next episode.

Mr. BruDaddy - Bruce Ulrich
Maker Lounge Podcast
07/14/23 • 54 min
Since 2014 this guy has been making handmade goods and furniture, and is a co-host of a podcast called We Built a Thing. He makes some beautiful pieces showcased on his various social media channels, but it’s not just his projects that get him views, it’s his Southern drawl. His friends call him BruDaddy, and sometimes Big Daddy, but his name is Bruce Ulrich and he just stepped into something... the Lounge.

Burnout - Real Talk
Maker Lounge Podcast
05/19/23 • 52 min
This is a bit of a different episode. Normally I have guests and we talk about their businesses and craft, diving into how they got started and what they plan on doing in the future. This week it's just me, stripped down and no bull. Real talk. I share my experience with burnout and how I overcame, allowing me to recognize the patterns in my life that will hopefully help someone else avoid the pitfall of burnout. I hope you enjoy the episode and share it with someone who has mentioned they may be burned out (or close).
May is mental health month.

Behind the Brand with SurfPrep Sanding
Maker Lounge Podcast
03/17/23 • 48 min
This episode was recorded with a live studio audience from Workbench Con 2023 in Atlanta. We invited our Patreon members and others to join us while I spoke with Hannah and Skylar from SurfPrep Sanding. SurfPrep has been a long-time partner of Voeltner Woodworking and the Maker Lounge Podcast, and it was a perfect opportunity to sit with them in person to talk about how the business got started, share some great memories, and get you to know more about the family behind the brand. I hope you enjoy this episode.
Thank you to Kristin and the team at Workbench Con for letting us set up this recording space!

Making cool projects with Steve Moseley
Maker Lounge Podcast
05/26/23 • 51 min
What this guy makes with dyed skateboard veneers would make you think he is a hardcore skater, but don’t be fooled. I still haven’t seen him do an ollie or a kickflip. From 3d topographic carvings to epoxy inlaid french cleat wall organization, today’s guest has some incredible builds that definitely inspire. He doesn’t have to go far to start building because he’s clearly Making at Home. Steve Moseley with Making at Home is here.

Derek from Malden

If you want to know how to properly say Cah-haht or Smaht, this guy is your tutor. You may have seen him making a commode or working a grinder on the Netflix show Making Fun. This guy makes ZZ Top seem like ZZ Bottom and gives me tremendous beard envy. Not only is this blue-collar maker great on camera building taco launching dinosaurs and glitter farting unicorns, this woodworker makes some amazing signs, furniture, and other custom projects. He’s everyone’s homeboy! Derek from Malden joins us here in the Lounge.

Tyler with Temecula Yard Games
Maker Lounge Podcast
11/25/22 • 81 min
Welcome to the Lounge. I’m Matt with Voeltner Woodworking and your host of the Maker Lounge Podcast, where we have a rotating group of makers, hanging out, and talking craft to each other. Thanks for hanging out with us in the lounge.
Today, the guest becomes cohost. The Big D, 3D Dave, is back to cohost with me. Even Chuck Norris asks Dave for 3D Printing advice. We had so much fun in last week’s episode that by a unanimous vote of 1, I asked him back.
Our guest in the lounge today is one whose company motto is “Made for fun,” which is the same phrase my parents used before I was conceived. When his bags hit the board, they slide right in. Tyler with Temecula Yard Games is with us.

Godfather of Woodworking, Izzy Swan
Maker Lounge Podcast
12/02/22 • 71 min
Today, I have a very special guest. He’s a maker, Youtuber, Ameteur Engineer, Artist, and Master of Jig-O-Nometry. I know this because it says so in his bio. If you say his name backwards, it’s the same as it is forward. I’m talking about the Godfather of invention. Izzy Swan.
Izzy Swan is known for his knack for inventing and innovating existing products to be more functional. He has grown his YouTube presence to over 875k subscribers, has a tremendous Instagram presence, and has networked his way to do business with various companies to outsource and sell his ideas. Most recently, Izzy sold his X-Clamp system to Woodpeckers who now produces the product, getting the product into more hands through their marketing channels. Many of Izzy's products can be found in stores throughout the US, including Taylor Toolworks.
Chatting with Izzy was a true joy for me. I have had the chance to get to know Izzy over the last year and he is always genuine and selfless with his time and knowledge. It must also be said that Maggie, who was beside him throughout the podcast, is also quite literally by his side throughout all of his endeavors; she is a true gem of a woman.
I hope you have been enjoying the episodes so far. The best way to get the most out of the content is to join us in the after show by becoming a Patreon member.
