Are you looking tired, intense, angry, or sad? In this episode of "Make Me Pretty", we review common reasons originating from heavy upper eyelids and/or a heavy brow. We review slight non-surgical options but primarily focus on surgical options such as an Upper Lid Blepharoplasty (upper eyelid lift) and various Browlifts. These are surgical procedures that can be performed separately or together and in the hands of a reputable surgeon can give a naturally appearing refreshed appearance to the face. As your host who spends time in and out of the operating room, I am a fan of these procedures with the correct patient selection.
This episode gives an overview of the aging tissues to the upper lids and brows, some thoughts on non-surgical procedures and a focus on surgical options.
Thank you for listening, subscribing, and reviewing. I see you and I APPRECIATE YOU!

"You're so Vein" with guest, Haley Queen, PA-C gives us incite into the evaluation and treatment the vasculature of the lower body. She gives an overview of both cosmetic and non-cosmetic conditions, as well as options available for treatment.
All of the organ systems of the body rely on appropriate blood flow to and from the targeted sites in order to provide nutrition and remove waste. Without sufficient arterial flow (blood supply) the tissues cannot survive and without healthy venous return, the blood will pool in an area causing cosmetic and functional difficulties.
For a consult physically or through telemedicine with Haley Queen, PA-C, who works for the Northeast Georgia Hospital System's Vascular Surgery group, call 770-219-4000.

Blessed with the opportunity to interview Jenn Cobbs, PA-C, a respected colleague and former PA classmate...she is BRILLIANT, DRIVEN, BEAUTIFUL and BLACK. Jenn has been a board certified Physician Assistant for over 16 years, with over 9 of those years being in Aesthetics. She has worked for a variety of practices and spas, but her entrepreneurial spirit has allowed her the boldness and bravery to begin and continue to develop her own business, JC Aesthetics, LLC. She is masterful in her assessment of patients for fillers, toxins, PDO threads, skincare and more, with the goal of providing safe treatments, with natural appearing results. Do you have smoker's lines that surround your mouth? Whether or not cigarettes are the cause of those lines, I've never met anyone that's okay with them. In fact, I often state that many of my "hippie" friends are not okay with those lines as they can make us look dehydrated and unhealthy.
Perioral lines are quite challenging to treat and often need multiple modalities to gain any ground. Genetics play the largest role in whether or not someone has lip lines or not but we can't control that, can we? We do, however, have some control with prevention: avoiding habits or environments that accelerate the appearance of aging. We also can look at early intervention with a variety of treatments to help stimulate collagen and decrease the deepening of these lines. Are you past the point of early intervention and needing some serious work to this area? Be ready to be patient. We can achieve reasonable results but there is no one thing that works alone. It will take a process...we need time and money.
This episode is a cliff note version on the prevention and treatment of lip lines.

With time, all breasts have a potential to experience deflation and/or sagging. All breast shapes and sizes can be affected. In time, an "A" cup can become a droopy "A" cup, a "B" cup, a droopy "B" cup, a "C" cup, a droopy "C" cup and so on. Poor genetics, gravity and physical body changes (e.g. pregnancy, significant weight shifts ) can individually or simultaneously contribute to a more matronly appearance. Many individuals would prefer more perky or sporty youthful appearance if possible. There is no intention of body shaming but simply educating individuals who are interested in improving the appearance of their breasts.
On this episode, "when your breasts have fallen and they can't get up," we speak with Dr. Glen Walton, MD, FACS, a highly skilled board certified plastic surgeon, on options available to patients who may be considering surgical options to lift their breasts. Dr. Walton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1984 and went on to Emory University Medical School in Atlanta, graduating in 1988. He then went on to do his residency in General Surgery at Emory University from 1988-1993. He then completed a fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Plastic Surgery Program from 1993-1995. He began his professional career at Plastic Surgery of Athens, working from 1995-1997 and later joined Northeast Georgia Plastic Surgery, in Gainesville, Georgia, where he actively practices. Dr. Walton stays quite busy with cosmetic surgeries and procedures, always keeping safety as a first priority and meticulously working to leave patients with a more youthful natural appearance. He works a great deal with improving breasts (mastopexy vs. breast augmentation) abdominal tissue (abdominoplasty vs. mini-abdominoplasty), arm lifts (brachioplasty), facial rejuvenation, including facelifts, mini-facelifts and combo treatments and devices (ex. Inmode) , body lifts, liposuction, and so much more.
To set up a consult with Dr. Walton in-office or virtually, call 770-534-1856.

The eyes are one of the first things we see on a person. They can "say" a lot without one single word spoken. On a good day, the skin under the eye is smooth, hydrated, tight, with good light reflection, few lines and little puffiness. BUUUUUUT when this area is dry, wrinkled, has darkened skin, shadowing of the tissues, significant laxity or large pockets of puffiness then one can look fatigued, sad, or unhealthy. In this episode, we discuss the evaluation of these tissues and possible options to address them. The area under the eye may not look as youthful as we’d like because of natural anatomical structures (genetics), typical changes with aging, or environmental injury (ex. sun exposure or smoking causing an increase in free radicals). With over 15 years experience in Plastic Surgery, Katie Allen, PA-C touches on a variety of treatment options such as microneedling, needling with radio frequency, lasers, skin care, filler, and surgery.
I suggest listening to the podcast at a 1.5x speed to keep the rhythm going. Thank you in advance for your support in listening to Make Me Pretty Podcast, downloading the podcast and leaving a review.

Plainly stated: Acne sucks. Not only can it indicate an underlying systemic medical condition, but it can cause permanent scarring, cause painful nagging cysts and can cause significant psychological distress. Boooooo!!! The chronic use of masks during the pandemic has led to a subclass of acne related to masks call Maskne and we don't like it either. In this episode, we have the privilege of interviewing Davina Braselton, PA-C (@davinabraselton) about Maskne and basic acne. With over 17 years of experience in Dermatology, Davina has a vast amount of knowledge of the challenging subject of acne, including what you can do at home to begin treatment of acne and when it's advised to seek professional help. She currently works with Lanier Dermatology in Gainesville, Georgia (770) 538-0208.
If you have persistent or worsening acne, I'd suggest meeting with a reputable dermatology provider to evaluate and begin treatment. It's also important to rule out underlying medical conditions that may manifest themselves in the skin.
As mentioned throughout the episode, more information can be found at The American Academy of Dermatology website www.aad.org

Make Me Pretty - Brachioplasty for "BAT WINGS"
play

01/26/23 • 24 min

Brachioplasty for "Bat Wings" is hosted by Katie Allen, PA-C. Whether it is genetic misfortune or massive weight loss, if your upper arms have loose skin that wobbles, jiggles, wiggles or waves then you've probably heard of the term "Bat Wings." Unfortunately, exercise to the arms can improve muscle tone but it does not decrease the loose skin so individuals seek out ways to treat or disguise this tissue. If enough tissue is involved, it can be difficult to find clothing that fits over the arm and is still the appropriate size for the rest of the upper body. Attempting to cover the arms in the heat of the summer months is quite uncomfortable. There is a great deal of frustration for individuals.
What are the options for loose skin to the upper arm? This episode discusses excess adipose tissue as well as skin laxity to the upper arm and what can me done about it.
For a consult with the board certified plastic surgeon mentioned in this episode, Dr. Glen Walton, call 770-534-1856.
