Cultivating Personal & Spiritual Growth with Laurie Gunning Grossman

Make it a Great One with Dr. Dan

Dr. Dan interviews Laurie Gunning Grossman – storyteller, parent, and creator of Hold the Light podcast. They discuss parenting and how we can better show up for our children.

As her own children became older, Laurie realized how much all kids are always watching and observing how we parents move and interact in the world. Listeners will hear how Laurie has worked in the world of pregnancy, parenting, and home design for many years, and why she is personally and professionally most passionate about the ways that we design ourselves, from the inside out.

Dr. Dan and Laurie also talk about her career (including working in music and the lifestyle space) and her parenting journey on this inspiring episode.

With over twenty years as a writer, editorial director, and podcast host/producer, Laurie Gunning Grossman encourages us to focus on personal and spiritual growth so that we can all experience greater joy, transformation, and freedom in our lives – and be the light holders of the world. Laurie lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband and two teenage children.

The Anxious Mother with Yael Goldstein-Love

Dr. Dan speaks to therapist and author Yael Goldstein-Love about maternal anxiety, her recent Slate essay In Defense of the Anxious Mother, and her new novel The Possibilites (based on her own harrowing experience as a new mother).

On this episode Dr. Dan and Yael Goldstein-Love, a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology specializing in how mothers experience anxiety, discuss:

  • The postpartum experience
  • What exactly is maternal anxiety
  • The normal existential crisis that accompanies having a first child
  • The new parent experience and the primal need to protect
  • Normalizing motherhood experiences including worry

Today’s episode is enlightening and validating, and will inform listeners about these common experiences.

Her dissertation research focuses on how mothers experience their anxiety for the unknown futures of their children. She is a graduate of Harvard University and currently attends The Wright Institute. Her fiction and non-fiction have appeared in many outlets including Slate, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Wall Street Journal Speakeasy Blog, The Atlantic online, The Millions, The Forward, and Commentary.
