Episode 378: Henry, Allister, & Graham join us on the Mac Admins SOFA
Mac Admins Podcast
08/27/24 • 75 min
Death, taxes and software updates... We deal with a constant stream of updates: Minor, major, N, N-1, N-2. Why do we even have updates? Because software inherently sucks and bad people find ways to exploit the vulnerabilities that they find, or is it that good people find them and disclose them before the bad people get a chance to use them... If simply applying these software updates wasn’t hard enough, we also need to understand what devices are eligible for which updates, and may have auditing responsibilities to make decisions as to why and how quickly we need to apply them. SOFA is an open source tool that MacAdmins can use to help with automation, documentation and many other aspects associated with keeping our bloody software up to date

Episode 370: Jedda Wignall on Managed Device Attestation
Mac Admins Podcast
07/02/24 • 80 min
Trust is a subject we regularly discuss with our guests. How do we trust our users, how do we trust the software they want to run, how do we trust the devices they are on. In the modern world where you can’t believe everything a computer or mobile device is telling you about itself, how do we make sure that the devices we are managing and granting access to the privileged information we need to secure are in fact what they say they are? Jedda Wignall put together a very comprehensive deep dive into Managed Device attestation last year and we’ve been looking forward to having him on the podcast to talk through it. Welcome to the MacAdmins Podcast Jedda!

Episode 398: App Installers and Jamf Pro
Mac Admins Podcast
02/05/25 • 80 min
Apple has done a great job of providing first-party applications to achieve pretty much anything you would want to do using their devices. From iMovie to Final Cut Pro, contentious changes to the Photos app, and the productivity tools like Pages, Numbers, and the awesome power of Keynote. Despite this, we generally need to provide much more than this to our users, installing applications from many different vendors with wildly varying approaches to installation, configuration and updates. There are almost as many approaches to managing the installation and patching of third-party software as there are vendors, and today we are going to speak to Adam Derrick from Jamf, and Dave Goldberg from Horizon BCBS about using Jamf App Installers in production.
