This episode will outline the positive effects of getting sober, liveing a life of recovery, and how it can help people in their daily lives. It will focus on the importance of how maintaining your recovery can help you become more productive, have better mental health, and make healthier decisions. Stigma surrounding sobriety will also be touched on and how we can help reduce it.
Finally, we will touch on the importance of sharing our personal battles and triumph with drugs and alcohol. Most showing the importance of those who have decided to get sober, walk through life in active recovery and how that has saved them. What to gain from this episode
- Be able to define both Sober Curious and Alcoholism.
- The positive things that the Sober Curious Movement could bring people.
-Such as..People will begin to look at their drinking and note if it is alcoholic drinking patterns and if alcohol is causing issues in their professional jobs or their personal life or relationships.
-It can get people to be sober “dry” enough to have a clear head to notice if they feel better without the intake of alcohol.
-It gives people the opportunity while not drinking alcohol to see if they are using alcohol to cope with difficulties in their day to day life.
- Gives them the opportunity to see if they are physically dependent on alcohol or not.
-The negative things that the Sober Curious Movement could bring people.
-It could give people something to hide behind instead of dealing with real issues at hand
-It could give someone who has alcoholism a way to continue to moderate their drinking or try to moderate

Welcome to today's episode of " My Recovery Story", where we dive into the personal journey of me your host, who overcame addiction and found a new purpose in life. Just as any other stories mine is filled with a lot of pain and lessons however a powerful story of resilience, overcoming trauma, and finding hope in recovery.
Just to give a quick idea of what this episode entails.... I grew up in a very unstable home where physical and emotional abuse was a norm. As if that wasn't enough, I also endured the trauma of sexual assault by my mother's boyfriend and sons. But amidst all these struggles, I was fortunate to be adopted by amazing parents at the age of 14, which offered a glimpse of hope.
As I grew older, once my addiction to alcohol started it spiraled out of control, making it hard if not impossible to stay sober. But on July 2, 2020, I made the courageous decision to get sober. I was broken down emotionally and filled with desperation for a better life. I didn't want to die but I couldn't use enough to get high anymore and it was not even enough to keep me from being sick. I had reached an emotional bottom and had no other choice but to pick myself up off the floor. I have been committed to my sobriety and recovery ever since.
However, my journey to recovery was not without challenges. As you learned in the last episode I lost by best friend to addiction, which became a turning point for me. I truly discovered that helping others through their recovery journey was my new passion. And giving others a platform to share their stories, while bringing awareness to addiction, as well as ending the negative stigma attached to it was so important to me.
This experience led me to create this podcast, where they provide a platform for others to share their stories of addiction and recovery. I believe that recovery is not just about abstinence but about personal growth, being better than the person you were yesterday, and embracing positive change.
Join us in this episode as we learn more about the inspiring journey your very own host Julie, my commitment to sobriety, and my mission to help others through their recovery process. It's time to start the conversation on addiction, bring awareness and end the stigma.
I'm honest and tell my story to remove any shame you may think is too much. You are never too far down. Getting sober is hard but you are not alone. A life of recovery is here waiting for you. You are worthy of everything this life has to offer you.

Where did Love Me Sober even come from?

If there is something I get asked a lot its "What is Love Me Sober", and "what does it mean anyway?"
This episode is the real starting point of Love Me Sober. It's funny how the world works. One day you are watching someone you deeply care about singing this amazing song he wrote about Recovery, to starting a podcast based on exactly the same song.
Life has a way of changing fast. Thinking you have everything and a best friend for life and watching the disease of addiction take an incredible soul. The disease of addiction I promise you if you haven't lost someone you know personally by it. If you asked someone you knew if they knew anyone effected or lost their lives from the disease of addiction the answer would unfortunately be "Yes".
-This show I want it to be a safe place where people come on and share their stories, because if there is anything I've learned through my years of active addiction and all the ups and downs. Is when you share your story, you share hope.
-When you get vulnerable and you let those ugly parts be seen you give hope to people. Because they see where you are now and how you are thriving in recovery.
- Where the story of Love Me Sober came from. I really wanted to take time and give you the listeners the backstory behind Love Me Sober, and why it means so much to me. It's so important to speak on where it begin, where it ended, and where it turned out to be a different outlook on a life I could have never imagined a few years ago.
Just like every story this one is filled with fast love, hard lessons, and heartbreaking truths. With high hopes, big dreams, and a life that was taken too soon by the disease of addiction. It was a life shattering experience that turned my life upside down as I knew it, and it would forever change me as the person I once was. It changed how I looked at the world and everything I thought I knew about the disease of addiction.
This is a very hard and as personal of a story as I could tell. It is a story that has transformed me. Love Me Sober is not just a phrase. It started as a song written in the fall of 2020 by one of my favorite humans in this world. His name was Eric.
When I first met Eric he was so committed to his life in recovery. Coming back from a relapse and although always encouraged not to get involved early in recovery I broke the rules. Eric was someone who was hard to stay away from. He had a passion for writing and playing music. To me his writing was a lot of how he told his story, and when he would perform it I remember thinking one time it was as if God was healing him from the inside out. His laughter was contagious and his love of life something that I was yearning for after the hell of a few months it had been. Eric was a breath of fresh air.
When Eric would sing Love Me Sober he would always talk about his time in recovery. He would give a description usually along the lines of when he got sober he didn't know if the people around him or if he would even love who he was sober. This was usually followed up by a laughing "turns out I'm pretty awesome." He would state a lot of the time "ever been in a bar and feel like I have to drink."
Love Me Sober was Erics way of telling his story. It was his was of releasing his fears around being in recovery and not numbing with substances anymore. One of the main fears a lot of us with addition deal with.
I know I had the same fears. But this is a journey. A journey for me and journey for you. To find out who we truly are sober. And most importantly to love who we are for exactly where we are.
---Eric you are missed and loved more than you will ever know. I hope I'm making you proud kid---
