So much loss has taken place over this past year and that loss looks different for all of us. So many Looking Up guests have recognized some of the gifts they've received by way of their struggle during this time... but one thing that’s important to highlight is human flexibility, the ability to be emotionally and mentally flexible, or what it means to adapt, to recreate, to reinvent and to pivot to find new paths moving forward, especially when faced with setbacks. This week’s guest is a reality tv alumni, author, entrepreneur, restaurateur and mom. She was on the Bravo show Ladies of London for 3 seasons, is the owner of two LA hotspots, The Draycott and Olivetta, and is the creator of the new kids' snack brand Mavericks. In the face of the pandemic when restaurants closed for so many months she reinvented her business model and did so all with the focus on how she could help our healthcare heroes. We talk about finding light in less than ideal situations, her entrepreneurial spirit, the battles we are all facing and how to make our wars beautiful... In this episode, she reminds us of how much love there is in the world despite all the chaos.

When we think of grief we don’t tend to think of growth, but in reality it’s a pretty good place to start on our own resiliency journey. Research has shown that those who are in mourning often fare better when they attach personal rituals to their grieving process. In this episode, we explore the ways optimism can be cultivated even in the midst of grief. We discuss with Lulu Brud, actress, designer, activist, and founder of Of The Wolves, hope and happiness she’s cultivated despite the loss and rock bottoms she’s experienced. Dr. Deepika Chopra chats with Lulu about her own loss, and the personal rituals she’s carried out to find the light during dark times. She discusses the importance of emotional duality and the power in not just pretending everything is always okay.

Looking Up with Dr. Deepika Chopra - Self-compassion and the Art of Acceptance with Grace Miceli
play

11/01/21 • 51 min

On this week's episode of Looking Up, Dr. Deepika Chopra talks with artist and mental health advocate Grace Miceli. This conversation is honest and beautiful, as Grace opens up about how she discovered art as a key to access her emotions while young, and the journey she has been on to have her work reflect the inner peace she fought to find throughout her 20's. She talks me through her own thoughts around creating meaningful art out of a place of health over pain, how she blocks out the noise to take care of herself, self-compassion and rest, how boredom became her favorite space to create out of, and how taking a break last spring after her book published changed her life. There couldn't be a better guest to leave you with as Looking Up goes on a hiatus than Grace, and her wise words, so please enjoy this episode and remember, things are looking up!

To conclude season one of Looking Up, Dr. Deepika Chopra looks back at an amazing roster of guests who have all shared inspiring conversations with us. From Metta World Peace to Jamie Lynn Sigler to Dr. Rick Hanson and so many more, these incredible human beings have opened up to the Looking Up audience, offering their own raw and transparent stories of resiliency, struggle, hope, and of course, optimism. Now we must set aside some intentional time to reflect and integrate. Before season two starts, this episode serves as an anchor, reminding you of the eclectic stories we heard and encouraging you to relisten and relearn. Like our guests who leave with a small amount of their own meaningful “homework” at the end of each episode, stick around to hear your very own holistic and science-based exercise: a powerful breathing exercise adopted from the Indian Yogic practice of Pranayama, led by Dr. Deepika Chopra.
