A Win, a Loss and a Trade. A Busy Weekend For the Colorado Avalanche

The pendulum season continues!
The Colorado Avalanche started their weekend with a little bit of a surprise trade as they sent Tomas Tatar to the Seattle Kraken for a 2024 5th round pick. Tatar's tenure in Colorado didn't last very long, and even though it looked like he was starting to come out of his shell a little, the Avalanche figured now was a good time to move him.
On the ice, it was more of the same. A Saturday game in Winnipeg against the Jets went horribly wrong. That was followed up on Sunday at home against the San Jose Sharks that went how a team at the bottom of the standing should go.

Erik Johnson returned to Ball Arena for the first time since departing from the Colorado Avalanche, and you could see why he meant so much to this organization and the fans in a tribute that was perfectly presented.
Even before the game, EJ needed a minute to collect himself as the emotion of returning to the arena he called home for 13 years was overwhelming. Everyone was happy to see the former Av defensemen, but nobody was going to give him or the Sabres a walk in the park.
Once the puck dropped the Avalanche went right to work. Scoring three goals in the first and then closing things out in the third. Along the way, Sam Malinski netted his first career goal, and Nathan MacKinnon got his 800th point on an assist to Val Nichushkin goal which turned out to be Nuke's 100th goal.
