Living Western

"Living Western" is a show dedicated to telling the real story of the rural American West through individual stories of amazing people who call this part of the country..."Home".
Are you curious about what life as a cowboy/cowgirl is really like?
Do you dream of someday living in the scenic landscapes of places like Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, or other places known for their Western culture?
Do you love TV shows like Yellowstone, The Cowboy Way, Ultimate Cowboy Showdown, and other western entertainment?
Would you like to know where your food really comes from and the process of how a steak makes it from a pasture to your plate?
Are you fascinated by stories of the human experience as lived in wild, remote landscapes in often harsh conditions, and how multiple generations of families have continued to find that lifestyle so rewarding?
Do you love the sport of Rodeo? Are you a fan of the sport's greatest athletes and are you curious about their real daily life?
These topics are all parts of the authentic cowboy life and the goal of the Living Western Podcast is to share this life with all of you who might live in a completely different world and are not able to experience life as a cowboy yourself.
If you are already a resident of our rural American West, and perhaps you are born & bred into the lifestyle of the working ranch cowboy, you too will enjoy this show and the guests who will share their stories with us. Heck, we may even call you one day to be a guest on the show!

Living Western
05/28/24 • 65 min
The guest on this epsiode is Mr. Ryan Fleetwood, owner of Fleetwood Farms Quarter Horses. Ryan is also on the Board of Directors for the American Quarter Horse Association.
In this episode, we talk a lot about horses and the AQHA organization. We even dive deep into the recent major controversy surrounding the switch from paper records to digital and all of the social media chaos that erupted from this proposal.
We also talk a lot about family legacy and current challenges within Western Culture.
This episode was recorded in-person in-studio and that is due to Ryan graciously being willing to travel here to record the conversation.

#5 - J'amon Turner - "Just Believe"
Living Western
04/02/24 • 66 min
Known by many as a contestant on the competition reality TV show, "Ultimate Cowboy Showdown - Season 3", today's guest is a force of nature...a force for good. His name is J'amon Turner.
Though he made a name for himself as a successful professional bull rider and is also a rancher and horse trainer by trade, J'amon's greatest gift is likely his natual ability to lead and mentor young people and to introduce young people, who often have no connection at all to rural life, into the Western culture and trades.
If you asked J'amon what his greatest achievement in life has been, the answer would very likely be the formation of his non-profit youth mentorship program called, "Just Believe". This amazing program has already changed so many lives for the better and will continue to do so.

This episode is an interview with J.B. Zielke, author of "The Lost Cowboy".
This fantastic conversation lasted over 3 hours, so I will split it into 3 Parts.
J.B. is known for his epic journey to ranch on every continent that has critters to herd. The climax of this epic adventure was when he found himself riding a giant reindeer while herding other reindeer in Mongolia.
J.B.'s thirst for the wild in life and his aptitude for descriptive writing are reminiscent of introspective literary works like those of Hunter S. Thompson or "Greenlights" by Matthew McConaughey, but those who love books that hearken back to the old days of the wild west and pioneer cattlemen will recognize a similarity to the revered cowboy book "We Pointed Them North".
If you are curious what life is like for herdsmen/cowboys/Americans in other places around the world, or if you just love grand adventures with harrowing tales of disasters and conflict, as well as, heartwarming moments between people who cannot speak each other's language, you will love this book!
