Lit AF Relationships - 62. Sarah’s Story: Projection City Population One
play

10/13/21 • 39 min

In this episode, I talk about projection. Look, projection is part of the human experience but I recently realized just how much I have been projecting onto others. In this episode, I talk about a counseling session from 1965 that a friend of mine shared on Youtube. Watching this session made me realize how I bring SO many of my own stories, assumptions, and wounding to every situation I’m in, no matter how neutral the situation is. I share a few specific times recently where I let my projections dictate the truth particularly in social situations and my recent job negotiation. One of the stories running in the back of my mind was if I ask for more money my job will expect more from me. That assumption is setting me up for burnout and failure. I share some pretty embarrassing stories about past projections. And then I finish the episode with a helpful tool from Byron Katie to catch projections in action.

Lit AF Relationships - 85. The art of receiving feedback
play

05/19/22 • 33 min

Today I share about the art of receiving feedback. It took me a long time to understand that feedback actually comes from a supportive place. People that give you feedback want you to succeed and they are making a real effort to share this information with you. In this episode, I share my favorite framework to give and receive feedback. I learned this during a meeting facilitation training from Sarah Fisk at Community At Work.

I’ve always wanted to practice this feedback framework but it took a few years to find the right community to do it with. I share how I used this framework during a recent work retreat. It was such an amazing helpful tool. Giving and receiving feedback helps to clear the air with teams so you can work as a cohesive team where everyone’s needs are heard and met. Listen to the episode to understand the full feedback framework.
