Life in Barbados: A Year On A Paradise Island (Otherworld Travel)

The Barbados welcome stamp is becoming increasingly popular, and I've loved hearing how much I've been inspiring others to follow in my footsteps!

The voices you'll hear on this week's episode of "Life in Barbados" all have something in common. We're all at different stages of our journey in relocating to this paradise island of Barbados.

By now, you'll know that I (Yvonne Campbell) relocated here just before Christmas 2020.

And through this podcast, I've now discovered someone else who is on her way out here, to also follow her dreams.

You'll hear me talking to Liz Forshaw all about her realisation that she wanted to ignore making a step on to the property ladder, and instead follow her travel dreams and live the Bajan life.

I also have a lovely chat with Canadian Kathryn Holopainen who decided to use the Welcome Stamp to move out here with her partner in order to bridge the gap in a distance-based relationship.

In this episode, you'll hear:

  • The possible changes coming to the welcome stamp to facilitate corporate relocation!
  • Liz Forshaw and her thought-process behind using the Barbados welcome stamp to relocate.
  • Blogger Kathryn Holpainen describing the difference you could experience when you move to Barbados versus simply taking a holiday there!

Make sure you subscribe or follow in your favourite app, because each episode I'll bring you another wonderful insight from this magical paradise island of Barbados, and you won't want to miss it!

We also occasionally post special bonus episodes just for our subscribers!

Did you manage to check out this one (all about weddings in Barbados) which we posted as a special Valentine's Day treat?

If you listened to the latest full episode, you'll know it was all about romance and enjoying the dream destination wedding on the beautiful paradise island of Barbados.

After weeks of listening and subscribing to my podcast "Life in Barbados" I decided to ask YOU to be MY Valentine.

Also, please accept this token of my gratitude - a special bonus episode.

If you ARE planning on getting hitched in Barbados, and enjoying the beautiful Bajan vibes in your wedding photos, you should listen to this episode.

We take a deeper dive with the full length chat to our show's new friend, Barbados wedding photographer Aniya!

We also feel like there wasn't quite enough Kirk Brown on the actual episode, so this episode features more of his thoughts about the ultimate wedding party entertainment for the best possible Barbados wedding!

Enjoy!

Barbados surfing: learning to surf the Caribbean swells with Bajan surfing legend Alan Burke

Barbados is the place to be if you want to surf. There's no question about it. Due to its unique position in the Caribbean seas, it generates some seriously good conditions for anyone wishing to catch a wave.

But what if you're not an experienced surfer? Can you still consider going to Barbados as a viable destination for learning to surf.

This is the exact question and topic we're covering in this episode.

If your experience of 'trying to surf' has so far been limited to falling off of your board on Fistral Beach in Newquay, then you definitely want to listen to my chat with Alan Burke.

Alan's a Bajan former national and international surfing champion, and he runs Burkie's Surf School.

From Barbados surfing legend to Bajan surf beginner, as I have a quick catch up with Craig Bulow, a person I met a month ago when we was starting his lessons.

I also talk about my exciting moment appearing LIVE on television on the UK's Sky News.

Oh, and if that's not enough, this episode contains swimming horses!!! Yes, seriously!

In this episode, you'll hear:

  • Why you might get to see horses in the sea if you're on the right beach at the right time!
  • My moment of national television news coverage thanks to a Sky journalist stumbling across this podcast on social media.
  • Barbados surfing legend Alan Burke from Burkie's Surf School telling us all about learning to surf in the Bajan paradise.
  • Craig Bulow on his experiences learning to surf in Barbados.
  • If you want to check out the film "Box, Bowl and the Burkes" that Alan mentions, you can do that, here.
  • Alan mentions his favourite beach. (Spoiler alert: it's Brandons Beach). This is a short video of it that I've found so you can see what it looks like.
