Liberating Motherhood

Leah LaHue

Title: The Liberating Motherhood Podcast
Challenging the culture around US maternal health and strengthening the family unit.
Whos's this for? Pregnant women, birthing people, birth workers, postpartum mothers and parents
Leah LaHue is a birth doula, speaker, educator and mom of 2. She is a life-long learner and actively challenges the status quo surrounding the "business" of maternal health care in the United States. The Liberating Motherhood podcast features raw, unfiltered personal stories of motherhood and childbirth as well as conversations with experts, wellness practitioners, and heart-to-hearts with women whose stories represent us all. She aims to help women cultivate true embodiment and peace in their birth and motherhood transition through critical thinking and asking questions. This podcast includes evidence based research and also thoughtful opinions. We will laugh, cry, but most importantly we will support each other through the most important journey in the evolution of mankind; birth and parenthood.

Have you ever had an intrusive thought that you just couldn’t shake? I have. It was the scariest time of my life and not even my closest friends have heard this story.
If you are struggling with mental health as a mom, you are not alone. There is an epidemic of mental health disorders in the US and they are contributing significantly to our increasing maternal death rate which is much higher than our peers. Nearly 1 in 4 maternal deaths in the US are related to mental health. That’s almost double the rate of maternal death from postpartum hemorrhage, the second leading cause of pregnancy-related death. Please don’t wait to seek help like I did.

This episode Includes nutrition tips for preventing anxiety (13:41) and a daily exercise to stop the cycle of intrusive thoughts. (21:59).

Hey it’s Leah! I’m a mom of 2 boys, a birth doula and a childbirth educator. I’m pretty crunchy/ holistic, and I love supporting moms in all seasons of life. You might already know that the United States scores super low in how we care for women but most of us have no idea how to navigate the underlying issues. I created this podcast to provide you with the education that every mom deserves. We’ll talk about how to have an empowered and informed birth, the magic of our mindset, and the deeply spiritual initiation into motherhood. We’ll explore birth trauma, female sexuality post kids, our relationships and how they evolve, and the grief that often accompanies our joy.I’ll also share ways to maintain a deep connection with your kids as they grow. We’ll explore concepts like self correction, how to handle emotions, and staying present when we are triggered. We’ll explore strategies for teaching kids to set boundaries, trust themselves, develop their attention span, personal responsibility, and more. I’ll share with you how I’m proactively raising boys who have a reverence for women, for birth, and for all walks of life.Thank you for listening. Thank you for being a mom. It is my hope that you feel valued, inspired and strong in your journey. Our world needs women to rise up together and to thrive. To create a powerful shift in our culture by finding our voice.

Former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader, Krystal Anderson dies of sepsis after the birth of her stillborn daughter on March 20th, 2024. Kira Johnson died in April of 2016 after waiting 12 hours for a life saving emergency. (@4kira4moms). Eclipses are powerful transition periods during which doors close on what is familiar, and open to a new existence. Are you feeling the intensity of these "contractions" in your life as big changes arise? ME TOO. As with physiological birth, when birthing a new self, it is important to breathe, to relax, to pause, trust, and listen. Are you ready?
This can feel emotionally intense; as if your world is crumbling. You may be feeling grief, sadness, joy and gratitude all at once during this transition. This is an incredible opportunity to focus on new beginnings and to allow what isn't useful to shed away.
OUR FAMILY IS MOVING TO OREGON! Big feelings, changes and perspectives shared in this episode including a bonus tip from my 3-year old on how to pivot out of negative emotions.
