Learn English Through Listening

Learning English Speaking Topics With Adept English ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-speaking-topics-8/

Today’s English speaking practice podcast lesson may feel a little random, you could say it’s coming out of left field.  Today’s lesson has a lot of interesting English vocabulary and uses  several words that are difficult for new English language learners to  pronounce.

Have you ever watched “The Big Bang Theory” and noticed Sheldon or maybe you’ve seen Greta Thunberg on TV? Well, if you have, you might notice that these people behave  differently to most people. In today’s lesson we talk about the  conditions that cause this behaviour, and talk about innovative research  that may help us understand why these conditions occur.

We want you to listen to this English audio lesson several times. If you can find some time where you can listen and say what I say and speak what you hear out aloud. We suggest you do this somewhere  private, as you might get strange looks if you do this in a public place  :)

English Listening Lesson About What Things Cost In The UK Ep 451

An English Listening Lesson About The Cost Of Things In The UK ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-listening-mp3-4/

So  there are many things we all spend our money on regardless of where you  live in the world. But the cost of those things varies hugely. Today we  have an Adept English listening lesson which talks about what things in the UK cost. Things like a beer, or  some minced beef, things you probably buy where you live and can compare  the costs.

Obviously there are some currency conversions that  need to convert our prices in British Pounds to your own currency. For  the major currencies like the Euro you get about 1.1 Euros for a Pound,  for the US dollar you get 1.38 Dollars for a Pound and around 103 Indian  Rupees for a Pound. I used the Xe currency converter, you can find your  own currency if you would like here

The median annual pay for full-time employees was £31,461 in the UK in 2020. In London you will probably pay £1,200 a  month on average just on a mortgage for a property. A mortgage is the  loan you might take out with a bank to slowly pay, usually over 20+  years, for your property. The average mortgage payment in the UK is £723.

You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake.
⭐ Bob Hope, Comedian

Petrol in the UK is £1.33 for a liter, and diesel is £1.35 a liter. A typical car in the UK has a 60 liter tank so just filling up your car will cost around £70-80.

I found this English listening podcast quite interesting to research and pull together. If you want more like  this English lesson, please let me know and I will happily do some more  in the future.

Common English Words Found In British Gardens Ep 453

Common English Words Used In A British Garden ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/common-english-words-8/

After  lots and lots of rain we’ve finally had some sun, and in typical  British fashion we are all complaining because it’s too hot. So summer  is here in the UK, for a few days at least, and that means we will all  be talking about gardens and using common English words for plants and  gardening terms. Especially as we rest and enjoy barbecues and talking  with friends, now the government has relaxed lock-downs in the UK.

I love gardening and working from home and being able to garden has been one thing that  has kept my morale up during lock-downs. Now that I go out I can visit  others it’s time to enjoy my friends’ gardens, and that means using  English gardening phrases and vocabulary.

If  you do not have a garden, there are plenty of options to enjoy some  flowers and busy bees in the UK, from public parks to garden shows and  festivals. So at the end of the podcast I’ve talked about some flower shows I like to visit, partly because  they are near London but also because they are some of the most  spectacular flower shows in the UK.

One of the biggest advantages of learning English through listening is the ability to keep learning while you are doing other things. So if  you're on the beach, take your headphones and listen while you  sunbathe. If you're travelling back to work having been working from  home, now is the time to listen in your car or on the train or bus to  work. Maybe you're at home, just put on some headphones while you wash  the car or the dishes. The point is to make listening to English being  spoken by a native English speaker a habit that fits into your life. Keep listening to this and all our podcast lessons. The more you listen, the easier speaking English fluently is.
