Leaders Who Love What They Do - 5 Strategies for Leading in Times of Uncertainty
play

03/10/22 • 14 min

At the time of recording (March 2022), Russia is 15 days into an invasion of Ukraine. The world is watching in horror and there is no way to know that evolution of this conflict and the impact it may have.
In this episode, I describe five practical strategies that I see leaders using successfully to navigate periods of stress, uncertainty and fear.

  1. Embrace discomfort
  2. Zoom out to see the detail
  3. Focus on what you can control
  4. Build an even stronger team
  5. Connect and reach out

Leaders are not coming into this at zero: we were already expecting a period of mental health issues on the back of Covid.
Once again, leaders need to dig deep into their own reserves of resilience, but also bring hope and vision to their teams, whilst looking after themselves.

It was a huge privilege to have Julien Tornare, the CEO of Zenith, join me for this episode. We talked about how he has rejuvenated a global luxury brand by bringing an entrepreneurial spirit, empathy and a vision of having "no limits".
He is an inspiring leader who shows great humility, an expansive vision and infectious energy and has transformed the company in 5 years, culminating in the recent launch of their new watch: DEFY Skyline that is stunning and has attracted the attention of the media worldwide in the last few weeks.
Tune in to hear what it means to Julien to "reach your star", Zenith's tagline and a sentiment that infuses his work and that of his team. Be ready to take notes - this is a lesson in global leadership that leads to great results!
About Julien
Julien Tornare, born in 1972 in Geneva (Switzerland), is the CEO of Zenith. Active for nearly two decades in the watchmaking sector, he initially worked at Raymond Weil for two years before spending 17 years at Vacheron Constantin: first as market Head for Switzerland, subsequently as the Brand’s US Director, and finally as Managing Director for Asia-Pacific.
At the helm of Zenith since 2017, Tornare has brought the brand back into the forefront of watchmaking. By rejuvenating the products as well as the brand’s communication and image, Zenith is once again at the vanguard of ground-breaking innovation.
In spite of its history dating back to the 19th century and being part of the LVMH group, Julien has injected his entrepreneurial spirit into Zenith, allowing the brand to revisit its unique history of innovation while laying the foundation for the future of Swiss watchmaking.

Leaders Who Love What They Do - Inner Voice Special Series no. 5: why taking action isn't enough
play

08/17/21 • 13 min

The triad of feelings, thoughts and action and their interaction is a key part of coaching and in this episode, I look at why focussing on the thoughts, by harnessing the inner voice, is such an important part of the "growth" process that will ultimately allow us to transform.
This type of transformation enables us to change fundamentally how we show up on a daily basis and of course the impact of this is potentially lifechanging, especially for leaders who are stepping into very senior roles, where their technical skills are less important than how they inspire, motivate, challenge, bring people together and more...
By focussing on building this foundational layer, we are able to be more flexible, ride out the problems that arise more easily and welcome new opportunities with greater ease.
Tune in to hear more and don't forget to join us for part 6, coming soon!
If you're enjoying this series, why not share it with someone else who may find it interesting? Thank you!
