“This isn’t a story about cancer, it’s a story about coming to know our Savior.” In this episode, Sister Amy Wright, the new second counselor in the Primary general presidency, teaches how we can rely on the sanctifying, healing and enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to endure our own individual journeys. She shares her experience battling stage 4 ovarian cancer and how she found joy through service in a time of overwhelming pain and fear. “When I focused on myself, when my thoughts turned inward, the world became a very dark place. But when they turned outward, not only was there light, but even in the midst of the greatest suffering, I was able to experience joy.” Sister Wright also shares the lessons she learned serving on the Young Women Advisory Council, and how she has felt the Lord’s love for her and her family through her calling to the Primary. One of the most hopeful messages of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that no matter our present circumstances, change and improvement is possible. But, sometimes the prospect of growth and change feels overwhelming and difficult. On today's episode we're joined by Kate Holbrook, the Church's managing historian of women's history and co-editor of "At the Pulpit," to discuss the life and teachings of a former Relief Society board member named Leone Jacobs (1903-1990) and her 1949 discourse about change beginning small and simple, in our hearts. Tune in to learn about Jacobs' mission to Syria and Palestine in the 1930s, how Kate discovered Leone's carefully-kept everyday journals, and how the Spirit can help us change our hearts and turn outward to see and serve others. Full Discourse https://www.churchhistorianspress.org/at-the-pulpit/part-3/chapter-33?lang=eng&highlight=Leone%7CJacobs "One of the most glorious principles of life is that we can always rise above our present level. How discouraging life would be if once we found ourselves involved in unworthy conduct we could not lift ourselves up and out and on to better ways, but we do not have to remain as we are. Each day offers a fresh beginning." - Leone O. Jacobs

We are often quick to acknowledge God as the source of good in our lives, but we can sometimes forget the power and influence of the adversary. In this episode, Relief Society general advisory council member Lori Draper highlights some of the tactics Satan employs to distract, discourage, and isolate women from God and one another. Drawing on her professional experience as a social worker and sharing personal experiences raising a family in New York City, Lori reminds women of the goodness of our Heavenly Parents and the power that comes from trusting in God. Latter-day Saint Women Podcast - 99. Kathryn Reynolds | No Such Thing As “Plan B”
play

02/02/22 • 40 min

When things don’t work out the way we want them to, we may think it requires we accept a lesser reward - a Plan B. But Relief Society advisory council member Kathryn Reynolds believes there is no such thing as a “Plan B” in life. Through a lens of sincere faith and trust in God’s love and eternal plan, she has come to see her life’s sidetracks, struggles and detours as divine. Join us as Kathryn shares the unexpected path to her career as a marriage and family therapist and service on the Relief Society council, and the divine detours and opportunities for learning along the way, including her service as executive assistant to Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Through tender personal experiences, Kathryn testifies of prophets and apostles, as well as the priesthood power and authority of the female officers called to lead and stand as witnesses of Jesus Christ in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today. Resources: Elder Richard G. Scott, May 2003 Ensign: “The Sustaining Power of Faith in Times of Uncertainty and Testing” https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2003/05/the-sustaining-power-of-faith-in-times-of-uncertainty-and-testing?lang=eng “Even if you exercise your strongest faith, God will not always reward you immediately according to your desires. Rather, God will respond with what in His eternal plan is best for you. He loves you to a depth and completeness you cannot conceive of in your mortal state. Indeed, were you to know His entire plan, you would never ask for that which is contrary to it even though your feelings tempt you to do so. Sincere faith gives understanding and strength to accept the will of our Heavenly Father when it differs from our own. We can accept His will with peace and assurance, confident that His infinite wisdom surpasses our own ability to comprehend fully His plan as it unfolds a piece at a time.”
