Suzanne Bilodeau

Catholic mom, Catholic women, and ALL friends seeking God- WELCOME! This is a podcast designed to provide my fellow sisters in Christ with encouragement and support for the beautiful and difficult journey of living out our vocations. Truth is that motherhood, marriage, and living out our feminine genius are incredibly hard endeavors. Yet, through the perseverance of pursuing all that is good, true, and beautiful we are tenderly being transformed into vessels of God's love, one tiny dish, meeting, or dirty diaper at a time.
So, join me, Suzanne - homeschooling momma of 6, every week as we journey together with a Mary & Martha mission towards "stilling our souls WHILE moving our world." Together, let's sit at the feet of Christ like Mary, while moving with the gusto and strength of Martha! Join me and my friends as we laugh, cry, dive deep, and explore with one another as navigate wifehood, motherhood, and sisterhood with our eyes on Christ.

In this episode we are thrilled to welcome a new guest to 'The Studio'- Laura Phelps! She graciously agreed to meet with us in person and we could not have been more excited to have her. This week we are so excited to talk about the cardinal virtue: fortitude. We were so excited to dive into this topic as it has a lot of significance in both our lives.
Fortitude ensures firmness in difficulties and is constantly pursing the good (CCC 1808). It's so important not only for large moments in our lives but it's necessary in every day actions. It helps us resist temptation, helps conquer fear, face trails and persecutions, and gives strength so we can pursue the good.
Fortitude gave St. Maximilian Kolbe the courage to sacrifice his life for a stranger. Fortitude gives a mother courage to push through those late night feedings with her new born baby because she knows it is right and good even though it can seem like an impossible task. Fortitude is the courage to do what is good even when it isn't easy.
“Courage is not simply one of the virtues but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means at the point of highest reality. ”
-C.S. Lewis

This week we start a new three part series on marriage! We begin by looking at what the Sacrament of Marriage was created for and what God's true intention for it is. Marriage can be beautiful, messy, difficult, and can stretch us in every possible way. Yet, God created marriage to be a saint making machine. If this is where God has called you, then we must remember that the path to heaven and holiness is fully living out our vocation in marriage.
Yet, it isn’t always easy but we can rest our weary hearts in knowing that we are not alone, but instead God has and is pouring out the sacramental graces we need to help our marriage thrive and be a living witness of His love.
There is no higher calling than to bring your spouse to heaven but in order to get each other there we MUST lean on Christ and keep HIM at the center of our marriage. Let Christ carry both of you in the crosses of your life because with Him we can endure all things through His grace.
"Intense love does not measure, it just gives."
-Saint Teresa of Calcutta

"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many." 1 Corinthians 12:12-14.
I suspect that if you are a momma, your motherhood matters to you. But have you ever considered that your motherhood matters to me? In fact, my motherhood matters to you too! This week I explore the truth that, because we are one body in Christ, how we love the little people in our home matters to the entirety of our church!

There is no better way to end our season than with a series on raising our children in the faith. It's such an important topic, and something we are both so passionate about, that we knew we needed a few episodes to cover it. We end our season with an AMAZING interview that you won't want to miss!
Raising children is hard and we crumble, fail, and cry a lot. But if we can remember that God is a God of love and mercy and have that same heart towards our children than we can, by our example, lead them closer to Christ. "We must first create a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule." (CCC 2223) God knows we will not be perfect parents but He calls us to pass on the faith to our children and no one can do it more effectively than us! That is truly a difficult task but He equips us with everything we will need."The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to produce an adequate substitute." (CCC 2221)
“Your life has a purpose and you have a mission in Jesus... Your mission field begins in your home. To help the people living under your roof realize that their lives are not meaningless, that their lives are bigger than they seem. That there is a God who loves them. Your mission is to them first of all...and then to everyone else you come in contact with. But they are first. Miss that, and you is the very reason why you even exist!”

We are continuing on in our conversation of raising children in the faith. In this episode we dive into some of the more difficult aspects that we can face in handing on our beliefs to our children. Many of these difficulties are often rooted in the thought that we are not good enough for this task. Once we see this lie for what it is we can have faith in the truth that God has chosen YOU for this mission. No one else is better equipped to raise your children then you. In our conversation we remind ourselves that God will provide all that we need in bringing our children closer to God through our words and examples.
We also look at some of the fears we face as parents: What if my child asks me a question I can not answer? What if I'm pushing my faith on them and it turns them away? What if I'm not a good enough example of living out the faith? What if... What if...This can become crippling and spiral us to then let fear hold us back from doing what God has called us to, to be the most important people in educating our children in the faith and to bring them to His merciful heart.
"Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he's old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

This week I speak to the honest reality that - Motherhood is Hard!
But it is precisely through this vocation of sacrifice and self-giving that we become purified and sanctified! Motherhood is a mission field that encompasses the entirety of mankind since as John Paul II beautifully said “the history of EVERY HUMAN BEING passes through the threshold of a woman’s motherhood”

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully." - Romans 12:6-8
This week I sit down with the lovely Jill Simons, founder of Many Parts Ministries, to discuss the importance of understanding our God-given charisms. Jill shares the treasure of recognizing the unique gifts that God has given each of us! It is through taking delight in who God has created us to be and nurturing our gifts that we can most fruitfully grow His kingdom in our hearts, in our churches, and in our own homes!
