Just a few things I've learned from other wise mamas :)
1) Listen!- Two ears, one mouth. Sometimes listening can be hard...cause IF the communication is open then you hear things you might not want to. BUT bite your tongue and let them speak. Help them to walk through it by hearing them out and reassuring them that no matter what happened you will always love them.(jsut like Jesus loves us!) OF course there will be consequences for certain things- I dont’ want you to think you should just let them tell you crazy stuff and let it go haha Consequences are obvious BUT learning to listen and take in information without trying to fix things or teach things or correct things...it’s a muscle that us mamas need to build. You don’t want your teen to think they can’t tell you anything because they know they will get a lecture on the other end. And ulitimately you want them telling YOU the stuff instead of friends or worse, another friend's safe parent.

So learn to use those two ears and close the one mouth.

2)Lead by example! - Be who you say you are. I know this can be hard but don’t say one thing and act another way. Don’t take your kids to church and tell them to live a God honoring life if you are going home and cursing up a storm around them, being inappropriate, yelling/screaming at every little thing, controlling all situations, over eating, watching shows that don’t align with your ‘lifestyle’, verbally abusing your kids OR YOUR hubs!(this one is SO important- we have to be better at honoring our spouses ladies!- that will be for another chat on marriage :) anyway... etc...you get the picture.

3)Be honest- show them you can be vulnerable and let them into your struggles...not all the gory details but let them know you re human and are trying to be better. Apologize when you hurt them or make mistakes. Own up to your ‘issues’ and show them you are trying to be better! I think that with teens you earn their respect in this way....maybe not outwardly(cause we all know teens don’t give compliments lol) but inwardly they are seeing they can trust you and are safe with you.

Lastly and most important-

3) Reinforce their identity- teenagers can drive us crazy. They can push us to the edge. They can make us want to quit parenting all together haha(actually I felt more like this in the toddler stage than now- but I know I’m the minority in this thinking) BUT they need to know they are loved, seen and known by us. AND by God. And they can only know these things if you tell them and teach them!
You are made to be your kiddos mama in these moments beloved child of God!!! Stay connected to Him and let Him lead your every step on this journey called motherhood!!

Sometimes we doubt God’s promises when we don't see them come to pass right away. I can tell you that I have had prophetic words spoken over me that I’m still waiting for. AND I can tell you it is super discouraging and honestly disappointing when they don’t come right away or in the timing I would like.. BUT a lot of that came because I was expecting things or desiring things and they didn’t happen when i thought they should... and some didn’t happen at all. I’ve had to learn to trust that God is in control and that He has my best interest at heart! And guess what when I lean into this belief there is such peace in the waiting!
Ways we are discouraged and how to combat them!
1) Wrong expectations-
When we start believing something is going to happen in our own timing or hoping our prayers will be answered a certain way, WE set ourselves up for disappointment because we aren’t pressing into God and HIS plan for whatever the circumstance may be. We are putting our situations on our own timeline...and honestly putting God in a box. The things God can do are so outside of our normal, and way beyond our understanding! So what do we do?We try to keep him in a safe place and in our control lol Cause when we have control we know what will happen(good or bad) right?. If we keep Him small the chance of disappointment is small. But honestly this gives us a false sense of safety... do you understand what I mean?
Here is some scripture to help you with trust today. Speak it out and reaffirm God’s truth in your heart and mind as you believe in His word!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in teh land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you. Ps 37:3-5

2)Fear
Fear can literally cripple us. And alot of our control issues, that we talked about before, are stemmed from fear. Being afraid of losing control. Being afraid of the unexpected. Being afraid of being disappointed. When we are let down(or it doesn’t happen the way we were anticipating) we put up walls to keep us from from being hurt or disappointed again. Better to not hope for anything than to be let down right?
Speak out God’s word- it is our sword right? Best weapon of choice! this specific scripture out anytime you feel fear creeping in- 2 Timothy 1:7- God has not given me the spirit of fear but of power, love and sound mind

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.1 john 4:18
Listen, disappointment is inevitable but that doens’t mean God isn’t faithful or true to His word. His ways are higher and He is God. He didn’t call us to have a perfect life. He just called us to trust, serve and live for Him. When we do this we can live a FULL life with joy! Woot!

This is a tough topic. Being well rounded. Balanced. I feel that word is overused to be honest. Is it even possible to be balanced? Balanced means to arrange in good proportions. So we need to have things grouped to a certain number and size to keep things sort of equal. But when I think of this I actually think this is the world’s way of putting more on our plate. It’s giving us permission to do more as long as we balance it. It’s like the circus act where they have the plates on the top of poles and they have to keep them spinning and spinning. In order to be well rounded we are allowed to have all the plates as long as we keep them balanced.
We need to release ourselves from the idea that you need to keep spinning and spinning those plates. We don’t need to be balanced cause in all reality we shouldn't have things proportioned. WE should have ALOT more of Jesus and time with Him in our day. That should NOT be equal with everything else. And I’m preaching to myself here friend.
Some tough love questions for you....Are you giving more time to your phone than to God? Are you spending more time on Netflix or Youtube than in your word? Are you going out on the lake or staying home to watch football instead of spending time in His house on Sundays? I know these are hard questions....and I don’t mean to sound harsh. But at the same time I want to lovingly nudge you to MORE of Jesus.

I think we have all had fear in our lives one way or another. Whether we were really afraid of something like spiders or snakes OR we were afraid of rejection...fear is a real thing. The cool thing is, is that we can be FULLY free from fear because fear is a tactic of the devil and we are more powerful than him when we tap into the amazing power of Jesus!
1. Realize fear separates you from God

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear... The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18).

God is love and there is no fear in love. So in other words...you can’t live in fear AND in God’s love. They contradict each other. Taht doesn’t mean God doesn’t love you BUT when you choose to walk in fear you choose to step out of God’s loving covering cause they can’t coexist!

2. Realign your focus- Shift your focus from your fear to JESUS!

Hebrews 12:2- And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

3. Read Scripture aloud! And speak life over yourself.
You do not have to be ruled or controlled by fear anymore, friend!! There is freedom in Jesus!!

Ok let’s jump in... we talk alot about being overwhelmed with life. How to get out of that and find the peace that only come from God. You know that first and foremost my desire for you is to KNOW God and be KNOWN by God. ANd to do that you need to get in your word and spend time with Him so that you can be fully aware of His presence and intention for your life. So this is my quick reminder for you to jump into your word and make it happen friend!! This will make the first 30 days super easy cause your reading will be picked out for you and you won’t have to figure out where to start! Just HAVE to start there cause we ALWAYS need reminders to get our of our heads, and off of our phones and read the bible! I love ya but DO IT!!

I saw this quote today about biblitcal boundaries- Biblical boundaries are personal rules that you set in place to make sure that no one takes advantage of you, hurts or harms you, or treats you with disrespect. An example of setting a boundary includes saying no to someone, cutting someone off in your life and just loving them from a distance, and walking away from a situation that may require you to abandon your faith or change the beliefs that you have.

It all comes down to setting yourself up for healthy relationships and a more peaceful life. God didn’t want us to have so much chaos in our lives...we weren’t supposed to be going all the time and never slowing down. I say this in love but we are warn down because we aren’t CHOOSING peace. I've said it before, WE set our schedule, WE choose what we do with our day, We have the ability to say no, or set restrictions on how our time is spent etc.

Ok let’s get into this real quick. Here are some tips on setting boundaries-

A lot of times the reason we don’t set boundaries is because we don’t want to let anyone down. But we DO end up letting people down because we spread ourselves so thin that we can’t do anything with excellence! So the first thing is

1. Know Your Values and Beliefs: When you clarify your values and beliefs based on your Christian faith you can Identify your convictions that guide your decisions and actions.
2. Communicate Clearly: Clearly communicate your boundaries to others in a respectful and assertive manner.
3. Trust God's Guidance: Seek God's wisdom and guidance in setting and maintaining boundaries.
