In the 1980s, two British men known as the Railway Rapists or the Railway Killers terrorized the rail stations of southern England. They targeted women, often near railway stations, and carried out a series of rapes and murders. The police initiated multiple operations to catch the perpetrators, including Operation Heart and Operation Leia. The killers were eventually identified as John Duffy and David Mulcahy. Duffy was convicted of two murders and multiple rapes, while Mulcahy was convicted of three murders and several rapes. This case highlighted the progress made in forensic technology and the importance of collaboration between police forces.
