Corona Virus and Your Family

Episode 74

Part One: Talking With Our Kids about Corona Virus

  • Manage your own stress
  • How old are your kids?
  • Talk with them at an age appropriate way. Be calm and reassuring.

Is the news to scary for our kids? https://parenting.nytimes.com/culture/kids-current-events

Under age 7, focus on health basics unless your kids ask you. And if they ask you about it first start by asking them what they know.

Over age 7, bring it up, ask what they know. Start where they are and share resources that are age appropriate. Be truthful and let them know that you take them serious.

Imprinting Holiday Memories

Episode 54

I use the five senses to help make holiday memories stick for my kids and to keep them simple for me.

Sight:

Christmas tree up early, nativity sets in every room. Sleep over under the tree.

Smell:

Pine scents—fresh pine accents with our fake tree.

Taste:

A few recipes we use again and again.

Church Windows- https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/156703/church-window-cookies/

Breakfast Pizza- https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/bacon-breakfast-pizza/

Hot Cocoa Bar- https://www.lovefromtheoven.com/setting-up-an-easy-hot-cocoa-bar/

Hear:

Read the same books over and over. Wrap them if you want to. Or Don’t.

Christmas Dance Parties

Favorite Songs & Albums:

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

A Charlie Brown Christmas

The Sound Joy by Elizabeth Mitchell and Friends

Songs for Christmas by Sufjan Stevens

Touch: Cuddles on the couch to holiday movie marathons

Need marathon ideas? The Santa Clause 1, 2 & 3; The Christmas Carol (Muppets, Mickey, Live Action), Grinch (old cartoon, Jim Carey, computer cartoon), Little Women, Home Alone 1, 2 & 3

Continue the conversation [email protected] or find me on Instagram here or there.
