In this episode, I explore how to turn your personal mastery into a legacy of impact. I’ll share how you can take the fire you've built and use it to create meaningful change in the world around you.
Key Takeaways:
- Your Purpose Isn’t Just For You: I believe that purpose isn’t fulfilled in isolation. Once you've mastered yourself, it’s time to think bigger. How can your passion inspire and create change in others? Your fire can become a beacon, guiding others to their own purpose.
- The idea that once you've ignited your fire, it’s your duty to pass that light on. True mastery means using your gifts to create ripple effects in your business, family, and community.
Three Steps to Amplify Your Impact:
- Clarify Your Message: Understand what your fire represents. What's the one thing you want to leave behind? Master it and let that message guide your actions every day.
- Lead by Example: People are inspired by what they see, so live your purpose boldly. Be the embodiment of your message, and others will follow.
- Collaborate: Your flame alone is powerful, but when it joins with others, it creates something unstoppable. Partner with like-minded people to expand your reach and amplify your impact.
I challenge you to take action this week.
Identify one way you can create impact—whether that’s sharing your story, mentoring someone, or collaborating with a peer.

So, whether you're a startup founder, investor, or business leader, these insights will transform your approach to technology, customer relationships, and strategic planning.
Episode Highlights:
06:03 - I think one of the most important things an entrepreneur can do early on is find a design partner. So, you always have customers, but there are customers who will put in the sweat equity with you because they see what you're doing is so important to their business and could drive so much value for them that they're willing to give you feedback and spend time with you, and try different things. I think that's really important for understanding what you're building and building it the right way. Caveat being, you need to have your own vision. You don't want to build just for one customer. You have to remember this has to be a platform or a technology that applies to many. But often one customer will give you enough of a framework that it'll apply to many different folks.
12:22 - In the venture world and in the startup world and the entrepreneur's world, we sell what could be the vision. But a customer wants what they can use now that drives ROI now that brings them a return and value now for the problem that they're experiencing. And so, I think that that's a really important thing. When you're going into a customer, you could sell a vision. You could sell a tool set that they could do a million things with, but they're not going to think for you. So, at the end of the day, you want to be able to say, "I know you have this pain point. I can solve this now."
16:55 - Make sure that it's not as valuable to them or not useful to them, whoever the attacker is. And so, that was really where we came to Endpoint Security, which will be the next revolution. Basically, taking that paradigm and realizing this is the new paradigm. Let's think about it this way and build the best solution for that. And so, that's why we invested at SineWave and Sentinel One, which ended up being the biggest cyber IPO ever. They did great. And then what's the next revolution? Not just we can Whack-A-Mole this new bug, or we can add a nice feature onto what Sentinel One can do in Endpoint. What is the next paradigm shift that requires people to architect their systems or think about the industry differently?
26:24 - It's a marriage. I'm going to be around longer than some of your wives and husbands are going to be, especially if you build a second company after the first decade, first company. And so, you want to make sure that you're really working with the people you want to work with. I say that at SineWave all the time. We are a team that has a particular culture that works for us. We care about each other, and that's our model. And other firms work well with very different models. So, find the place you fit, find the people you fit with, and I think that's the most important thing. I think it actually makes you more effective at the end of the day. And the most important thing, if it doesn't go well, you still feel realized and you still feel like you did something worthwhile.

EP 116: Focus On What Is Working In Your Business with Eric Rosenberg
Journey To Mastery
10/08/18 • 21 min
Eric Rosenberg knows money. Starting off early on his entrepreneurial journey, he was the top seller of his community’s entertainment coupon books when he was a boy scout.
From there he followed a steady career path in finance, starting out as a bank branch manager and transitioning into full time financial consulting.
Side Hustle
Eric began dabbling in financial blogging, advising people about the right way to manage their money and stay away from debt. When his blogging and ad sale side hustle reached $40,000 in revenue in addition to what he was making at his day job, Eric did what any good responsible new parent would do - quit his job and become a full-time online entrepreneur!
Eric claims that typing is his superpower and started exploring writing purely as a side hustle. His writing lands him at numerous personal finance conferences and has also led to several freelance writing gigs. Surprisingly, freelance writing for others has become the bulk of his income. When not writing, Eric speaks at conferences and events, sharing his wisdom on personal finance, branding, building your online business, and how a side hustle can often lead to financial freedom.
Keys to Success
Speaking from experience, Eric credits long term focus for success. A handful of keys for success from Eric include “Have a viable business to go into.” Elon Musk features as one of Eric's ‘people to meet’ as a mentor and teacher and learn why he is on Eric’s list.
Spend time on what You Love
The entrepreneur enjoys spending time on his blog, his podcast, and his Youtube channel and will continue to do so no matter how successful his business grows. His favorite way to spend time is with his family and in his community in Ventura, California.
What Eric is Up to
In the future, Eric plans to flex his entrepreneurial muscle developing apps focusing on community, mastermind groups, and of course, money.
Advice
With the cornerstone of his advice being “Listen to your market,” the number one piece of advice Eric gives is to focus on what is working in your business. “Don’t always look at what you expected to work in your business, look at what IS working.”

Journey To Mastery

self-made real estate entrepreneur. Her story is a testament to resilience and determination in the face of life's unexpected turns. Driven by her entrepreneurial spirit, she stumbled into the realm of real estate investing, a decision which proved to be life-changing.
Emerging from humble beginnings, Dwan’s initial pursuits involved handwritten foreclosure lists and property visits. Her first investment was a financially-challenged property in dire need of repair. Despite the hurdles, she took it upon herself to learn the ropes, demonstrating the power of a self-starter attitude.
Her actions led to a profitable sale that exceeded some people's annual income at the time. Dwan's journey didn't stop there, as she continued to grow her real estate empire, refining her strategy and building a team of experts. Tune in to this episode to get a glimpse of Dwan's impressive journey and achievements in real estate investing.
Episode Highlights:
05:26 - I sold the house. I made $22,000. And I was like, "Oh, my gosh, I have $22,000. I am rich." To me, I was rich. I'm looking at my bank statements. I have $22,000. People didn't even make that in a year. Thirty-four years ago, that was a year's salary for people. And I was like, "Oh, I have $22,000. Oh, my God, I'm so rich. I'm going to do it again." And I did another house and would move in. I would fix them up, bring the daughter with me, sell it, move, fix it, sell it. And I did that until she started kindergarten. And by then, I had money, and I understood what fixing up was. Rehabbing. I learned a lot in those first couple of years, but by then, I had enough money and I could have a crew here and have a crew there and work on a house here. And then I just started killing it with real estate.

440: From Beta Tests to Billion-Dollar Bullseye With Jonathan Cronstedt
Journey To Mastery
02/20/24 • 42 min
Elzie Flenard engages in a dynamic conversation with Jonathan Cronstedt about leadership, self-leadership, and the transformative journey of Kajabi. Jonathan emphasizes the evolving nature of leadership across different stages, highlighting the challenges of self-leadership and the need to overcome the desire for approval.
Their discussion explores the intricate relationship between purpose, culture, and business growth, drawing inspiration from Netflix's "good goodbye" concept. Jonathan introduces the "bullseye" concept from his upcoming book, "Billion Dollar Bullseye," outlining seven core areas of focus in a business. Purpose, profit, product, prestige, promotion, persuasion, and people form the concentric rings that contribute to a company's growth.
Jonathan shares valuable lessons for entrepreneurs, urging them to focus on solving real problems, remaining customer-centric, and adapting to the evolving landscape of business. As the conversation unfolds, listeners gain deep insights into the dynamics of leadership, navigating challenges, and the power of purpose in driving entrepreneurial success.
Episode Highlights:
13:31 - The most famous quote on culture is from Peter Drucker, who says "Culture eats strategy for breakfast", and he's right. This is one of those areas where I think the biggest mistake that most companies are making as it relates to their culture is that they're trying to be everything to everybody. And you just simply can't be that, whether you're looking at the customers you serve, the employees you have, or even your own internal goals, I really do think that you've got to get very, very precise on what those goals are and how those goals are brought about through an organization.
28:09 - I don't know the right answer for you. I know the right answer for Kajabi was to remain steadfastly focused. The outcome, which was the success of our customers, meant that when our customers needed email, we built email. When our customers needed automated live events, we built automated live events.
It meant that whatever our customers needed, we were committed to staying at the forefront of that for them.
32:20 - I'm a much bigger fan of actual intelligence than I am of artificial intelligence. That's the AI that I choose to focus on. I think that right now, AI is an amazing tool, but it's a terrible leader. If you're counting on the fact that AI is going to replace your business, then you probably deserve to be replaced by AI. If the world needed information and that was what was important or relevant, we'd already be set; you know, all of the information is online, available for free, and in a disorganized and possibly not true fashion, but it's all out there and available. And AI is learning off of that and is a little bit better. But I think we're going to see AI go through the same adoption curve that we always see everything go through that everyone's going to get really excited about, like the Internet in 1995.

433: Success, Self-awareness, and Stress Management with Dave Valentine
Journey To Mastery
02/09/24 • 34 min
Elzie hosts Dave Valentine, Founder of DreamQuest Agency, for a deep dive into agency growth. Dave shares insights from his agency journey, emphasizing the pivotal role of reliable lead generation and operational efficiency. A focus on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and effective task delegation emerges as a key theme, with Dave highlighting the long-term benefits of documenting processes for scalability.
The conversation explores the significance of focus, clarity, and intention in business strategy. Dave advocates for niche specialization, comparing the efficiency of specialists to the challenges faced by generalists. Introducing the Dream Agency Quest program, Dave outlines its two versions, offering yearly growth support and a three-year commitment for agencies contemplating a potential sale.
Dave encourages entrepreneurs to embrace self-awareness, believe in their services, and resist the allure of every opportunity. The Dream Agency Quest emerges as a valuable tool for agency owners seeking to scale, grow, and potentially sell their businesses. The episode concludes with gratitude from Elzie and an invitation from Dave for entrepreneurs to reflect on the impact of focus and intention on their businesses.
Highlights:
07:00: If you don't have SOPs, standard operating procedures, for your team to follow, it doesn't matter if you're a really great practitioner. I was and am a very good digital advertising person. I knew how to target the right copy and put it to the creative. And this was before they had a lot of automated targeting that's pretty savvy now. So I could do it, but I could never train someone else to do it. And so I always found myself going behind the people that I hired to do that work and doing it for them.
15:28: After I sold my first agency, I had a lot of people say, dude, how did you do that? You know? I mean, because that's what people want to do. And in 2020, I started consulting with agency owners, and I started to see they would see immediate success. So they would go from making $10,000 a month to $25,000 a month in 45 days just because I was like, "hey, here's how you do lead generation. Here's how you set up the systems. Here's how you take sales calls." And it's so rewarding to see other people be successful when they're using your playbook.
31:27: So one of the ways that we do this is that no one person at any company that I own ever makes more than 5 times as much as the lowest-paid person. So if I want to take a raise, that's cool. That's great. I have to get the bottom person up so that I can have that race. And what that does is create this community amongst our employees where they go. Dave has a job that I don't want. I'm glad that he makes more than me exponentially, because I don't want to do what he does. But I also know that I'm not getting fleeced, that I'm still making a lot of money, and that I'm being taken care of. And so it's just being thoughtful, conscious, and aware of the actions that we take that affect other people and the planet.
