Java with Juli - Making Sense of God & Sex - #378: How One Church Learned To Embrace the Beauty of Broken

#378: How One Church Learned To Embrace the Beauty of Broken

09/13/21 • 47 min

Java with Juli - Making Sense of God & Sex

Imagine there is a sign on the door of your church that says, “Please leave your sexual brokenness on the steps outside.” Its ridiculous! Sadly, its how many people feel.

In this episode, Juli talks with leaders from The Austin Stone Community Church. They share how the church started a conversation about same-sex attraction and followed it with a discipleship group to answer questions, share God’s design, and connect sexuality to the greater story of the gospel. To their surprise (and despite the pandemic), the group kept growing.

Are you ready to embrace sexual brokenness in your church? Or is your brokenness still sitting outside on the steps?

Guests: Kate Terry & Zach Verrett

Show notes:

#377: How to Care For a Friend (Or Yourself) When the Marriage Doesn’t Survive

Marriages don’t always survive the tough stuff. Wounds heal. Addicts find sobriety. Forgiveness is extended. Life comes back — sometimes without reconciliation.

In this episode, Juli is joined by Stacey Sadler, who shares her story of wearing thin the pages of "The Power of a Praying Wife" and then overcoming the shame of filing for divorce. Today she is a certified counselor and helps other women set boundaries, work toward recovery and, when necessary, leave abusive marriages. You’ll hear how God rejoices over the woman (or man) who finds healing, protection, and wholeness — even when the journey begins with God's provision of divorce.

Guest: Stacey Sadler, MA LPC

Show notes:

#376: What Does God's Word Actually Say About Divorce & Remarriage?

#373: How We Beat a Porn Addiction in Our (Millennial) Marriage

#372: How To Recognize Domestic Abuse
