Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

We were both interested in starting a podcast together as a shared hobby, and a film-related podcast made sense as talking about film was how we initially became friends, plus it was a good excuse to watch more movies together!

Which episode should someone start with?

Probably not the first episode! Like many indie podcasts, our audio has improved over time. From our first year, people really liked episode 8, but I think we only really came into our own around episode 17. You can start with whatever episode intrigues you most, but any before 17 I would say please excuse our early podcast awkwardness!

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

I'm a big fan of our pride episodes and any with totally off-the-wall connections between the films. My favourite has got to be episode 75: The Whatever Bagel.

Which episode are you most proud of?

I'll say episode 21: Kung Furyan - but mainly because I was able to finally convince Nik to watch the Kung Fu Panda movies.

What is your vision for your show?

I honestly just want to keep doing what we're doing. I'd love to come up with some really good comparisons that make people say "holy shit, those ARE the same"

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

National Treasure Hunt, hands down. I listen to every episode religiously. I have the book, I've been on a superfans episode, I love what Aubrey and Emily do.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

There's two of us, we usually compare two movies each episode. I wanted something film-adjacent and was looking at names of films about doubles (Enemy, The Double, Parent Trap, etc.) and It Takes Two seemed perfect. I obviously was not thinking about SEO at the time but we've made it work.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi! I'm Lisa, one of the co-hosts of It Takes Two. I'm Irish but have been living in New Zealand since 2017. My co-host is my partner (currently fiancé) Nik who is a kiwi. We both love movies and I really enjoy making connections between films I've seen. I do the research, planning, recording, editing, publishing, marketing, website maintenance, whatever else - Nik says he's "the talent".
