Our Pharma, who art in heaven…
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
12/24/21 • 108 min
For our final episode before Christmas, Revs Tom and Jamie respond to Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s claims that being vaccinated is the moral thing and Christian thing to do. They compare and contrast the archbishop’s approach with that of Michael Nazir-Ali who says that churches should stay open this Christmas as they play a vital and unique role which should not be abandoned due to the threat of the putative omicron variant.
In other news, Fraser Nelson managed to get SAGE chief modeller Graham Medley to admit that policy groups within government asks SAGE to model negative outcomes to match policies that have already been decided. And in the most shocking news of the year the WHO have told families to cancel their Christmases in order to...you guessed it: save future Christmases!
Our Question the Rev segment deals with the issue of why the Church finds it hard to speak about sin. And our scripture this week is (again) taken from Revelation 2:1-7.

The Rest is Compromise
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
10/18/24 • 77 min
Church of England revs with a difference Thomas Pelham and Jamie Franklin sit down to talk about the biggest issues in church and state. This time:
- Archbishop of Canterbury in car-crash "gay sex" interview with Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart.
- More on assisted dying as Kim Leadbeater brings bill before Parliament.
- Scottish Government says no talking about abortion in private homes within safety zones.
- University of Nottingham puts trigger warning on The Canterbury Tales for being influenced by Christianity.
- And Russell Brand sells magic amulets on TikTok.
That and probably a bit more as ever.

Sir David Ames, No Children for Climate Change, Michael Nazir-Ali Swims the Tiber - Revs in Conversation
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
10/21/21 • 97 min
Revs Tom and Jamie sit down to discuss a sad week which saw the brutal murder of one of the few great men in public life, Sir David Ames. We discuss the political, religious and cultural issues that this event raises, and we celebrate something of the goodness of the man himself. We also look at an article by Tom Woodman which confesses that he cannot bring himself to have children because of the apocalyptic threat that the climate change phenomenon presents to us. We also review the decision of Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali to swim the Tiber and convert from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism.
Our Scripture this week is taken from Psalm 8.

Hearing our Fears - with special Guest Laura Dodsworth
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
06/10/21 • 124 min
Laura Dodsworth joins Revs Jamie and Tom for the second half of this episode. Before that we discuss latest developments including identity politics in football and cricket, the lockdown probably not ending on June 21st, and a joint letter from Humanists UK and Churches Together urging as many people as possible to get vaccinated.
We speak to Laura about her fantastic new book, A State of Fear, and all sorts of issues arising from it, including the Church's response, how to bring about reconciliation and healing and where we go from here.
Our Scripture this week is taken from John 8:31-38, 44-45: the lies which enslave and the truth which sets us free.

The KKK at Prayer
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
05/27/22 • 97 min
In this episode of Irreverend, Church of England vicars Thomas Pelham and Jamie Franklin get together to offer a spiritual perspective on current events, this week taking our Scriptural reflection from 1 Timothy 2:-14: Paul's teaching that we should pray that governments allow us to live godly lives. In current events: we look at the new Schools Bill which threatens to change the relationship of the family to the state and destroy the basis for home education, a new study showing the devastating effect of lockdowns on toddlers, monkeypox and what that's all about, what football does when a black Muslim won't wear a rainbow flag on his shirt, Ricky Gervais' controversial comments about transgender people, Calvin Robinson's shunning by the CofE who he failed to recognise as the KKK at prayer, and much more! We attempt to give a spiritual perspective on all of this on this week's Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs!

Orange Insanity
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
04/21/23 • 97 min
Church of England revs with a difference Jamie Franklin and Daniel French get together to talk about the big and often disturbing stories of the day from a spiritual perspective. This week:
- Just Stop Oil protestor resembles religious fanatic as snooker championship is well and truly interrupted by orange paint.
- Green activist takes his own life because he felt so depressed and hopeless about the apocalypse constantly predicted in climate change narrative.
- The government plans to use your mobile phone to frighten and control you: are you ready for them to interrupt St George's Day by issuing a test alert?
- Junior doctors walk out on their patients demanding a 35% pay increase, whilst co-chair of the BMA goes on holiday.
That, some thoughts about the Archbishop of Canterbury's Easter sermon in which he couldn't help but mention the Church's £100 million woke reparation fund for historic ties to slavery, your questions answered in Question the Rev and much much more.

Is Pride a Sin?
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
07/21/23 • 104 min
Rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down to review the most pressing issues in church and society. This week:
- Net Zero mania in the CofE as affirmation of environmental activism is added to confirmation ritual.
- CofE spokesman defends teaching of critical race theory in CofE school classrooms.
- Tory councillor King Lawal is cancelled for saying on Twitter that pride is a sin.
- Pro-life activists say they were banned from worshipping at York Minster.
- Controversy as friends of Mike Pilavachi tweet in his support.
That and a couple of Question the Revs with questions about Holy Communion and baptism. Our Scripture this week is Romans 8:9-22.

Special Edition: Rev. J's Conversation with Carbon Mike on "Dangerous Space"
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
12/14/20 • 108 min
This is the audio of a recent conversation that I, Rev. Jamie, had with Carbon Mike. Carbon Mike is a software engineer, conservative, social critic and the host of the Dangerous Space podcast. He describes himself as a "pilgrim" when it comes to faith, meaning that he's not quite there but he is very sympathetic. He also has a very cool voice. We spoke at length about many subjects including the faith, Covid-19, government opposition to Christianity and conservatism, social media and technology, and lots of other things. This was recorded sometime earlier in November, so please bear that in mind.
I hope you enjoy listening to it!

"We are living in the midst of a miracle" - Podcast Extra w/ Revd Professor Michael Northcott
Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs
11/09/21 • 100 min
For this special episode, the Revd Jamie Franklin is joined by the Revd Professor Michael Northcott, Emeritus Professor of Ethics at the University of Edinburgh and now Visiting Professor at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Michael was also ordained in the Church of England in 1982 and worked in full-time priestly ministry for ten years. As well as specialising in ethics, Michael is also well-known for his writings on environmental issue and their relationship to theology.
In this very broad-reaching conversation, Michael gives his take on the ethically dubious nature of the response to Covid-19, including the usage of the drug Midazolam in UK care homes, the breakdown of the academy and the Church due to the incursion of the ideology of Human Resources, true environmentalism and how COP26 and the climate catastrophisers are exploiting this situation in order to bring about a technocratic, globalist government, and why we should all spend a lot more time outdoors.
This is an explosive interview and is guaranteed to divide opinion!
