070: Next Level Mom Life
IronMom Life
02/18/22 • 19 min
Do you think that Mom life has to just be hard and never ending torture? I hear that a lot and see the memes all the time of how hard and terrible being a Mom is, but I’d like to flip that perspective on its head and chat about how I like to look at Mom life- I see it as Next Level Mom Life!
Mom life is hard-there’s no denying it, kids are crazy, unpredictable, their own little personalities, but I really believe that it can, should, and IS also really fun and awesome. I feel like it’s all about perspective and how we react and are proactive about things.
I am so damn passionate about celebrating Moms and Mom Life as a beautiful way of living as opposed to just a way to get through the day until we go to bed and start all over again. NO! Life is meant to be enjoyed and LIVED, not just tolerated and always in survival mode. This is our life, our one and only life that we are aware of, so why aren’t we really LIVING it and ENJOYING it!?
I'm not down with settling into survival mode. I want next level- thriving mode! I am SO serious about this which is why I formed my community. I wholeheartedly believe that we deserve to be all that we can be, to LOVE our lives and to spend time with other people that light us up. Why do we buy into the narrative that it has to be so hard and it has to be terrible and that’s all we can laugh and joke about? No thanks- I want more and I'm guessing so do you!!
Join me next week for the “Win Your Day” Workshop on Tuesday, February 22 at 12pm CST. It will be a LIVE session where we talk about how we, as Moms, can do small, manageable things to win and enjoy each day! It will be fun so join us! Sign up at https://winthedayworkshop.com!

059: Silence is Golden
IronMom Life
11/12/21 • 20 min
Today I want to talk about the noise. There is just so much noise- both externally and within our own heads. We’ve gotta figure out how to silence the noise within so that we can be great. So that we can be great Moms, friends, and humans. All this noise is fighting for our valuable attention. The TV, social media, friends, family, neighbors...it is all jockeying for a position and taking up valuable space.
We have to figure out ways to keep space within so that own truths are able to come through. Get into nature. Get quiet. Get in the silence. I know, for me, that getting outside in the sunshine, in the fresh air is where I feel the best. I can just let go. Another place for me is in the shower- it’s quiet, the water is warm and I can just be quiet. Where is it for you?
Create time in our daily routines that will bring us back to a state of presence or awareness- to the noise that is there. Where we just notice. We have to control the external noise as much as we can, but also silence the noise from within.
Listen in and let me know your thoughts. Are you able to sit in the silence? To just be there and realize what's happening in the present moment? It isn't easy, but it truly is something we all could do more often- even for just small moments of time.
I would be so grateful if you would leave me a review. Just head HERE. Let me know what you love and what you'd like to see going forward! Thank you so much for your support!

Today I want to talk about something that I have mentioned before, but with the world being wonky and our kids going through a lot, I would like to talk about why I have such strong feelings about waiting until at least 8th grade when it comes to smartphones for kids.
I was not aware that the average age a child gets a smartphone is 10 years old and that children are spending between 6 and 9 hours a day on media! Ugh!! Childhood is changing so much from when I was a kid, and the negative impact of too much screen time is hitting kids terribly hard. When I watched “The Social Dilemma” I was terrified and it made me so sad that this is what these devices and platforms are doing to us as a society. Well, imagine what it’s doing to our kids with their brains still developing and with navigating growing up and learning how to actually be social with one another- hello potential bullying! Now when they have smartphones and social media they can’t even get away from it because they take it home.
We have to do something about it, in my opinion and it starts with us as Moms. Talk to your fellow Mamas and let's all do what we can to allow our kids to stay little and be kids for as long as possible!! :)
Send me a DM on Instagram (linked below) and let me know if you're on board with this. I think the more Moms and kids we have doing this together the better- Together We Mom!!

After having a conversation with an amazing new friend yesterday I decided to rant (with no notes or actual outline, so it's messy and a little all over the place) about some things that I have been hesitant to put out there. I am one of those people to sit on the sidelines and listen, learn, and observe things and internalize it all because I don't know exactly who I can talk with about certain things. I will typically only talk with those that I am certain won't blast me for my opinions and I hold it in when I feel threatened or feel alone. I am the last person to ever want to be confrontational or to make anyone feel uncomfortable, but why does that mean that I can't express my opinion or talk about something if my thoughts may or may not follow the popular narrative? I believe we are ALL entitled to our opinions and we do not have to agree or feel the same- geez, how boring would that be?! We should not be shamed or bullied or coerced into something when our thinking is different than someone else's. Today I let it out about some of those things and maybe you will be inspired to be more brave in what you talk about out there as well.
I am not for everyone- you are not for everyone and that's ok! I talked about this in a past episode so take what I have to say today for what it is and if you don't resonate with me and what I have to say, then that's ok. You do you. I want to attract and be surrounded by people that relate to what I have to say, can challenge me in positive ways, and can have discussions without judgement or anger and disdain. Having an opinion that may not be the same as mine or someone else's is ok, but it doesn't give anyone the right to tell me or anyone else that we are wrong or should stay quiet. Nobody should be hushed. We can all learn from each other- differences and all.
I'd love to know your biggest takeaway after listening today. Send me a DM on IG @livingjoyfulandwell

032: You Choose Your Life
IronMom Life
03/23/21 • 19 min
Life is all about choices. The choice to be a follower, to be a leader, to be crabby, to be happy, to be an optimist, to be a pessimist, to be joyful... it’s all a choice. Many people feel that life happens TO them... I believe that life happens FOR us and what happens depends on the choices we make.
I am not here to tell you what to think, believe, or what to do. I am an encourager and a cheerleader for all Mamas and I'm hoping to inspire you to make a different choice than what I'm seeing all around me. Sadly, what I see these days is unhappiness, sad faces, anger, and irritation EVERYWHERE. It breaks my heart. I know things are way different than they were prior to March 2020, but why is the go-to being angry instead of happy? Do we want to just get through life or do we want to enjoy it?
I am starting a movement of optimism. A ‘Smiling Through The Chaos’ movement. It is my mission to encourage, inspire, and be a model for all Moms to choose JOY and put a SMILE on their faces. Even if you don’t feel it, do it anyway, give it a try- no harm no foul if it doesn’t work out, but at least you TRIED! Doesn't your attitude switch almost instantly when you smile? It’s tough to be angry or to have a bad day when you have a smile on your face.
I learned a strategy within the last year called BE DO HAVE. BE who you want to be NOW, instead of waiting until you HAVE something in order to BE what or where you want. If you want to be happy- then BE happy! Make the conscious decision that you are HAPPY NOW! NOT when something happens- when the pandemic ends, when I go visit so and so, when I go on vacation. NOW! Nobody controls you except YOU. Most people have it opposite and HAVE DO BE.. When the pandemic ends, I will be happy. When I have a bigger house I will be happy. When I have a million dollars I will be secure. I can’t BE whatever it is I want until I HAVE something.
If you are waiting until some outside force does something in order for you to be happy, you will never be happy. Once you have that “thing”, you still likely won’t be satisfied... you will look to the next thing and the next and the next. It’s a never ending cycle of dissatisfaction. This is how most people choose to live, though.
How about we choose different and BE DO HAVE! BE the person you want to be, do the things that will get you there and you will have it. Nobody and nothing is going to save us. Nothing. Only YOU can choose YOU. Choose to BE who you want to be NOW!
If you are waiting to put a smile on your face until everything gets better, that’s a disservice to you and your kids. What makes you think that once you get “there” you will be any different? One of my mentors says “What got you here won’t get you there.” Being the same person, having the same attitude, living the same life won’t get you where you want to go. YOU have to make the choice to BE who you want to be NOW!
I hope this resonates with you and you’ll make the choice to join my Movement (see what I did there- haha). Don’t you think you would feel better ‘Smiling Through The Chaos” instead of being pissy through it all. It’s happening anyway- might as well make the best of it and show our kids that even through adversity you can still smile and enjoy the day!
Looking forward to having you on board with the Movement!! Grab your 'Smiling' gear and your FREE phone wallpaper HERE!
I'd love for you to share your biggest takeaway from today's episode as well! Send me a DM on IG @livingjoyfulandwell or tag me in your IG Stories. I can't wait to hear!!
030: Smiling Through The Chaos
IronMom Life
03/02/21 • 15 min
So today I am coming at you with something that I have been working on, thinking about, and stressing over for a long time. I am super excited to share something that I’ve designed and created for Moms to inspire us to get through those not so easy days.
I am not an expert at "Motherhood". I am an expert in optimism and cheering for others. I especially love to support other Moms and Mom-owned businesses. WE need a network of support and I think we are so much better off when we have a support system around us. It's not easy to find either... We, as Moms, find ourselves in survival mode and alone more often than we would like- do you feel me here? I’m certain I am not the only one that feels this way. I am also certain I am not the only one that wants to THRIVE and ENJOY the day EVERY day!
I say it often and many of you who have listened to other episodes hear it on every episode, but I have my mantra of “Enjoy the Day” which I have had since 2003 when I did my first Ironman.
It stuck because it is just inherent inside of me that each day we can make the choice to ENJOY THE DAY! Every single one of us is capable of Enjoying the Day! I believe that there is always something, even the tiniest thing, that we can see or find so we enjoy the day- even for 2 minutes.
With that said, sometimes it is REALLY hard and we maybe are feeling like we’re kind of going through the motions- some days aren’t awesome. Some days totally suck! Many of the days in the past 12 months have totally sucked. Even as optimistic and positive and cheery as I am, I have days where I am just frustrated with everything. I am crying on the inside, BUT I smile on the outside- for myself, for my kids, for my friends, for you, for anyone that needs a smile.
So... My second mantra for the past 12 months has been 'SMILING THROUGH THE CHAOS'. I feel this so dang much. I smile through the chaos so that my kids and others see a smile and so that I feel that there is light even when it feels so dark. Most people are angry at the world and take it out on everyone else. Road rage, anger towards neighbors, other family members- whatever it might be. I smile for myself because it’s good for the soul, it’s good for the brain, it’s good for the psyche, it’s good for every single dang thing.
We cannot do this alone, Mamas. As Moms we need a support system and with the way of the world, it is really hard to find that support. It’s hard to find the positivity and optimism to keep going forward. To not self “medicate” ourselves somehow... it is HARD! BUT, WE can at least be 'Smiling Through The Chaos' each and every day.
SO!! I know you can't see it, but I am wearing my first creation as an entrepreneur. A sweatshirt with the design “Smiling Through The Chaos”!! I now have sweatshirts and t-shirts available with my design on my website and I am SO EXCITED to get these out to you and anyone who loves the phrase as much as I do!!
Head over to my website and grab yourself one HERE!! I can't wait to see you in them and to hear your stories of how you are 'Smiling Through The Chaos'!! We got this, Mamas!!
