Send us a text

Welcome to IoT Coffee Talk #173 where we have a chat about all things IoT over a cup of coffee or two with some of the industry's leading business minds, thought leaders and technologists in a totally unscripted, organic format. Thanks for joining us. Sit back with a cup of Joe and enjoy the morning banter.
In this week's episode, Rob, Leonard, Steve, Marc, Tom and Ryan jump into the middle of Web3 to bring you the best in IoT entertainment kicking things off from Ericsson's Enterprise Industry Analyst event in Boston with the global uncompetitiveness being fostered by regulatory stunts by regions such as the EU and their Digital Markets Act targeted at so-called U.S. Big Tech. Will this help the competitiveness of European firms and industries?
Leonard and Rob talk about how we collectively have not idea what we are going to talk about every week but we know something so we are good with it.
Steve shares he MJ moment bringing home gold in the senior world basketball championship. Congrats, Steve and Team USA!
Rob gives a beautiful rant about IoT drafting behind the smartphone craze but where are the fanboys and the lines of people waiting to get the latest IoT?
The gang explores why operators have historically scoffed at IoT and why that might not change.
It's a great episode. Check out the whole thing. You will get all you need to survive another week in the world of IoT and greater tech!

Rob, Bill, and Leonard attended Mountain Connect 2023 in Denver and somehow found themselves on stage with an unwitting Jeff Lewis as well as event CEO, Jeff Gavlinsky. Everyone else got walk on music but we didn't so we went DMX on everyone with a little "Party Up!". This was the first time that IoT Coffee Talk was live on stage at a conference keynote. Yes, we recorded a live session at IoT Stars earlier this year. You should check that episode out as well.
We had a great chance to talk about the digital divide and the role that the BEAD program will have in bridging it. The team works through some of the key challenges that will face municipalities and communities as they apply for grants and go through the tough work of getting the infrastructure up to deliver services to every household in the U.S.
But equity transcends infrastructure. How do we achieve equity through the massive public-private endeavor that is BEAD?
Great ready to get real! Make sure to check out Mountain Connect 2023 and consider attending next year to get the latest and the greatest in broadband U.S.A.!

In this week's episode, Leonard, Rob and Bill mine Web3 to dig up nuggets of knowledge on the digital disruption of industries stemming from a rather meandering chat about music and how digital technologies have transformed the music industry but may have also had a dulling impact on artistic innovation and creativity by fostering an epoch of cut and paste music. Doesn't that make artistry that much more valuable and precious? Maybe not?
We also talk about the new Apple iPhone 15 versus Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra. Which has the better camera? Which one is changing the game?
We break down why digital transformation looks so good on paper, but it ends up being a little more complex and why organizations struggle. We provide the dirty laundry view, not the HBS diluted academic view.
