11/09/21 • 78 min

This week, we're joined by our special guest LaNeysha Campbell to discuss the anime phenomenon My Hero Academia-specifically, the similarities that Izuku "Deku" Midorya shares with Peter Parker. How was MHA creator Kohei Horikoshi inspired by the Spider-Man mythos? How does Deku's rivalry/friendship with Katsuki Bakugo mirror that of Spidey and the Human Torch's? And what of Deku's new abilities, Blackwhip and Danger Sense-which also happen to mirror Spidey's web-slinging and Spider-Sense? We also give our thoughts on Eternals and the new Morbius trailer!

Spoilers for all of the My Hero Academia anime throughout the episode.

Into The Spider-Cast - Episode 12: Gwen Stacy Deserves Better

Trigger Warning/Content Warning for the first part of this episode: harassment, predatory behavior, sexual assault

In the past few weeks, many in the comics and gaming industries have spoken up about the abuse and harassment they have received from prominent figures in these industries. Among those accused of predatory behavior are creators of Spider-Gwen's first series, Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez. We believe and stand with the victims and everyone else speaking up about the abuse they've endured. In this episode, we discuss the systemic problems of sexism, misogyny, and predatory behavior in the comics industry, and how the comics industry must work to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for creators and fans. We discuss how these toxic issues played into the making of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and how this movie failed Gwen Stacy in particular so horribly.

This week, CJ and Swara finish up their discussion of the Raimi trilogy with Spider-Man 3 (2007). Does this movie deserve the bad reputation it’s gotten? How does this film hold up and not hold up for us? Why were there so many plot elements in this movie, and do we think that makes it less accessible? Why was Sony so insistent that Venom be in this movie? And was the Peter Parker dance really so bad in retrospect? We also discuss the exciting news that Silk (Cindy Moon) is getting a new comic series in July 2020, as well as discuss what the new working title for the third MCU Spider-Man film might mean, and much more!

Into The Spider-Cast - Episode 32: One Long Spider-Sense

05/18/21 • 70 min

This week, Swara and CJ decide to pause from a focused discussion on a piece of Spider-Content and instead discuss what's generally on our minds, real-world and fictional, in this episode that is effectively one long back-and-forth Spider-Sense section. We hope that through this episode, you, the listener, will get to know us better and our interests beyond the Spider-Verse (although we do inevitably discuss some of that as well). Also, Spider-Man says Free Palestine. Enjoy listening!

09/29/20 • 72 min

For Latinx Heritage Month, we discuss a Latinx character we haven't discussed yet: Anya Corazon, AKA Araña, with her debut series "The Heart of the Spider." How does Anya stand out from most Spider-People, and how does her story strike its uniqueness with the various mystical elements and secret societies at play? What do we make of this less scientifically-based Spider-Story and Anya as a character? Besides our main discussion, we discuss the news of the Ms. Marvel series getting its directing team, the joys of playing The Avengers video game, tell the audience what's on our Spider-Sense, and much more!
