Interviewing the Legends: Rock Stars & Celebs
Rock Raymond
INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS is devoted to promoting musicians worldwide. We spotlight exclusive in-depth interviews with both legendary and up and coming music artists and celebrities. We also feature the movers and shakers of the music and publishing industries.
WHERE HAVE ALL THE ROCK STARS GONE?
Rock and Roll, the Blues, and Jazz are America’s contribution to the arts, so why are we not fighting to preserve our own musical legacy and culture?
With roots from the early blues pioneers, the longevity of rock and roll is second to none. But strangely enough, those legendary rock heroes that we were so accustomed to hearing every time we turned our radios on, had mysteriously vanished from the mainstream. The music of the 1960s, 70s, and even the 80s was an important juncture in all of our lives. So many of us timeline life’s precious moments with the music we remember, when the music was so great, when the music mattered. The baby boomer generation is financially imperative to many, yet many of its entertainment standards have been renounced.
One day, the plug was pulled on those legendary music artists. Hackers began stealing music across the internet. Online music stores popularized cheap digital singles and neglected to promote full-length albums. Radio stations changed formats to accommodate talk show radio jocks, while rappers and electronic dance music menaced the airwaves. Notorious record companies began folding in droves. Record companies and radio stations that were once owned and operated by visionaries, were now run by accountants and lawyers, and the music world began promoting untalented wannabes. The economy plummeted, and radio stations became more concerned about how many consecutive commercials they could run instead of providing quality radio programming and entertainment value. Radio stations became corporate machines leaving no room for innovation. Throughout the 2000s, recording studios and live performances began using an audio processor called “Auto-Tune” to disguise off-key inaccuracies in vocal tracks. The device allowed virtually anyone without music skills to become a singer and new waves of mainstream radio stars were instantly fabricated. The business of music became stronger and more important than the art of music.
For more than a decade, I’ve been on a rock and roll pilgrimage to help promote and save the greatest music the world has ever known. Before the internet and Napster, virtuoso musicians traditionally introduced their music by way of mainstream radio stations while anxious music enthusiasts hurried to their favorite record stores and purchased a copy of the artist’s latest release. Talk radio wasn’t popular because there was way too much great music to play over the airwaves. Advertisers didn’t rule the airwaves, the music did. Rock legends toured the world to promote their latest albums and prices of concert tickets were extremely affordable. Proficient musicians, singers, and songwriters are what made the music so great.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.
BIO: Legendary recording artist and ground-breaking entertainer Tony Orlando got an early start in show business, reaching national charts at the age of 16 with his recordings of “Halfway to Paradise” and “Bless You.” Orlando became the first vocal artist to sign with Epic Records. The young entertainer continued to set records, eventually becoming one of the youngest vice presidents in the history of CBS Records. After agreeing to record a demo record for a song called “Candida the song became a surprise hit, launching Orlando into the spotlight. John Cusimano Lead Singer of 'Fastest Land Animal' Punk Pop's Newest Sensation!
Interviewing the Legends: Rock Stars & Celebs
05/05/23 • 39 min
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.
With distortion cranked, synths warm, and no regard for the rules, Fastest Land Animal tap into the eternal power of three equally committed (and possibly crazed) kindred spirits. In this case, the trio— Screamin’ Jack Novak aka John Cusimano, Alfonse Castillo [guitar, bass] aka Jonny Blaze and Shark Samuels [drums] aka Andrew Meskin crash land (at full speed) into the intersection of glorious gutter punk, revved-up rock ‘n’ roll, and off-kilter pop. This slick, yet sharp style continues to captivate a growing fan base with nearly 10 million YouTube views and counting and acclaim from the likes of RIFF Magazine and more.
However, they only amplify every aspect of their vision on their 2023 second full-length LP, East Coast, West Coast, In between.
As the story goes, these old friends logged time in previous bands, performing alongside everyone from Motley Crüe to Alice Cooper. However, the musicians bared their teeth with their self-titled debut, Fastest Land Animal, in 2021. They rallied around influences as diverse as The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Rage Against The Machine, and The Ramones in the cultivation of a singular vision. They parlayed this momentum into a prolific creative season despite the distance between them with Jack in New York, Alfonse in Arizona, and Shark in Texas. Beaming in Los Angeles-based producer Don Gilmore the group tracked East Coast, West Coast, In Between via ZOOM. This time around, they increased the presence of analog synths, leaned on Gilmore’s impeccable tone selection, and even broke their own “no songs slower than 150BPM” rule.
Please welcome singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist formerly of New York based Indie- rock group The Cringe who is also married to American chef and Television personality Rachel Ray ...Screamin’ Jack Novak aka John Cusimano of Fastest Land Animal who was born of a Jackal raised by his father, a nanny and two irascible rottweilers.

Sensational New Alt Rock Band Roseneath Releases New Album!
Interviewing the Legends: Rock Stars & Celebs
05/12/23 • 83 min
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.
Every once in awhile I like to spotlight up and coming groups with a lot of talent and today I’d like to showcase a new group called ROSENEATH from Richmond Virginia...
Taking influence from 90’s alternative classics as well as modern grunge, post-hardcore, and shoegaze bands, Richmond, VA’s Roseneath combines driving riffs with soaring melodies to create something new with a familiar nostalgia.
The music is for fans of Quicksand, Nirvana, Balance & Composure, Failure, Modern Color, Narrow Head, and Smashing Pumpkins.
The duo is made up of Brian George on guitar/bass, together with Jason Roberts commanding vocals and production (as well as some guitar/bass too). Whatever they might lack in official members, they more than make up for with expertly crafted tunes.
Out of the gate, the band absolutely smoked their debut release ‘SHINE’ receiving rave reviews.
‘NOWHERE SAFE ‘is the group’s brand-new album available to preorder now and officially released on June 16th, 2023.
“Roseneath have a magical way of leveraging their influences to come up with catchy and well-written songs.”
Says ‘Everything is Noise’.
“I’m somewhat baffled as to how bandmates Jason Roberts and Brian George are capable of such a rich and all-encompassing sound all by their lonesome, but their considerable gifts make it altogether unsurprising.”
Say’s - No Echo
Please welcome Brian George of the sensational new alternative rock group ROSENEATH to Interviewing the Legends...

Charles Wright "Express Yourself" Singer & Songwriter Releasing New Music and Book!
Interviewing the Legends: Rock Stars & Celebs
05/09/23 • 65 min
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.
Charles Wright was born in Clarksdale Mississippi, where he grew up and was musically inclined by playing the guitar and singing in several doo-wop groups, including, The Twilighters, The Shield, and The Gallahads. Wright briefly worked as A&R Director for Del-Fi Records and was responsible for the hit recording of "Those Oldies But Goodies (Remind Me of You)" by Little Caesar and the Romans in 1961. By 1964, Wright formed his own band called Charles Wright & the Wright Sounds, which included John Raynford, and Daryl Dragon, the "Captain" of Captain & Tennille. Wright added more members to the group, and they became known as the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and they played in several venues across Los Angeles.
In the 1970s the band was best known for their world-renowned hit, "Express Yourself.” It was written by Wright and distributed by Warner Bros. TM, where it would hit #3 and #12 on the R&B and Pop charts, respectively. Another hit record under Wright's reign was Do Your Thing, which set the stage for a 1970s pornographic study of Boogie Nights.
To date, Wright's songs have been covered by legendary artists around the globe.
During the rise of Hip-Hop in the 1980s, many rap artists sampled chunks of funk from Wright's wax, including N.W.A. and their smash track, "Express Yourself" Brand Nubian Funk, Naughty By Nature, Gang Starr, and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs also gleaned inspiration from Wright's work.

Up: From Where We've Come
An Eventful Journey
A BOOK
By Charles Wright author
"UP" contains historical moments, where the reader will experience inserts of the author's life long before he gained his status as a musical legend. And like his music, Wrights' story is a historical account of events that could only be told in his own personal and unique style.
Wright’s book is about a young boy and his family's trials and tribulations on a cotton plantation owned by a cruel sharecropper named Edward Miles, who was born with an unfair advantage, which he uses to dominate his subjects. At the critical age of eight, the boy's father demanded he pick no less than a hundred pounds a day, which according to the author, he has yet to be able to deliver. But any time he failed, he faced yet another one of his father’s vicious whippings. His father was involved with the cruel hearted landowner, who owned four hundred acres of fertile land, which he and his family were obligated to work 40 acres of. This, of course, called for an oversized family, which at that time was a sharecropper's dream.
The beatings continued practically on a daily basis and continued even after the family relocated to California due to the fact that his father had developed a habit of taking his personal frustrations out on the boy.
During the late forties and early fifties, his parents decided to opt out of the cotton business for good, but soon realized Mr. Miles was not so willing to let go. They plotted a scheme and leaving the plantation, they moved into Clarksdale, but only to realize how relentless the old sharecropper actually was. So in an effort to subdue the family, Mr. Miles used his influence among other white southerners to deny the boy's father employment.
Their saga continued due to one incident after another until finally, the child's mother sought help from her oldest daughter, who'd already moved out of state. The rest is history. His story takes too many twists and turns to explain in a brief synopsis, yet in the end it has a surprisingly pleasant way of resolving itself.

Ray Alder Legendary Singer with Progressive Metal ‘Fates Warning’ Exclusive Interview!
Interviewing the Legends: Rock Stars & Celebs
05/07/23 • 54 min
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho
RAY ALDER is the lead vocalist of the progressive metal band Fates Warning since their 1988 release No Exit.
He has released two albums Engine in 1999 and Superholic in 2002 with Engine.
He also sang on Redemption's albums The Origins of Ruin, The Fullness of Time, Snowfall on Judgment Day, This Mortal Coil, and The Art of Loss, having produced their debut self-titled release in 2002.
Ray Alder’s second solo release is simply entitled “II”, but in musical terms this is a much more revealing, exploratory piece of work than its predecessor.
Alder states ...This album is more of a reflection of what I heard going forward as a solo artist. Longer songs, deeper lyrics and really pushing myself vocally. I hope that whoever listens to it enjoys it as much as I did while working on it...”

You can watch the video for "Retro" here:
Andy Foster had this to say about the new album:
“Following the amazing reaction to ‘The Way Home’, which blew me away, I am excited to be releasing Kite Parade's 2nd album ‘Retro’. I can’t seem to write a song where it doesn’t suddenly go off on a (slightly weird but hopefully interesting) tangent before coming back for a good old chorus! In some ways ‘Retro’ carries on in the same vein as ‘The Way Home’, as a couple of the tracks were written around that same time period and of course I’m once again blessed with my genius dream team of Nick D’Virgilio and Joe Crabtree on drums and Rob Aubrey at the helm for mixing and mastering.”
“Once again Steve Thorne has contributed some very thought-provoking lyrics to a couple of songs including the end of album ‘epic’ ‘Merry-Go-Round’. I think I know what it’s about, but for the definitive explanation, you’ll have to ask Steve! Stylistically, I think we’re in familiar territory but maybe ‘Retro’ has an ever so slightly darker feel. I can’t wait for everyone to listen to the album.
"After starting out as a studio-based project, I'm happy to announce that I’m in the process of putting a band together to get Kite Parade out there playing live at festivals and support slots. Exciting times ahead! After a lifetime of playing covers, I’m trying hard to imagine what it’ll feel like to perform my own songs. I just hope that I’ll be able to stop smiling long enough to actually sing!”

David began classical piano training at the age of five and by the age of 11 was making films. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho
Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique unto themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. Acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, the band's career has now spanned fifty years spearheaded by the 5-octave voice of Annie Haslam and the masterful songwriting skills of Michael Dunford. They are widely considered to be the band that most successfully and routinely utilized the sound of a full orchestra in their recordings.
The band has toured throughout the world and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and additionally at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. Renaissance had a top ten hit in the UK with their song “Northern Lights” that still demands airplay to this day.

This sold-out concert saw the band perform a set which included such classics as 'Carpet Of The Sun', 'Ocean Gypsy', 'Running Hard', 'Day Of The Dreamer' and 'A Song For All Seasons' and also saw a special guest appearance by Renaissance founder JIM McCarty who performed on the song 'Island' and the epic closing piece 'Ashes Are Burning'. It was a truly magical evening. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the formation of Renaissance, vocalist Annie Haslam and band performed a series of concerts with an orchestra in the USA in October.

05/22/23 • 64 min
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.
Joe Deninzon has been hailed by critics as “The Jimi Hendrix of the Violin,” because of his innovative style on seven-string electric violin. Joe has worked with The Who, 50 Cent, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, Phoebe Snow, Everclear, Ritchie Blackmore, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Les Paul and many more great artists.
Joe is the lead singer and electric violinist for the progressive rock band, Stratospheerius, which has released five critically acclaimed CD’s.
Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius are releasing their new live box set, “Behind the Curtain (Live at ProgStock)” on May 19th on Melodic Revolution Records. The collection on two CDs and DVD/Blu-rays show this treasured electric violinist/singer-songwriter’s history of favorites in the past decade and a half in the rock scene.
“(Live at ProgStock)” features eclectic covers. King Crimson’s “Frame by Frame” a Queen-esque approach to muse’s “Hysteria,” and an unrehearsed cover of Chick Corea’s “Spain” with blind piano and flute virtuoso Rachel Flowers and Alex Skolnick. “One Foot in the Next World,” is the brand-new music video; and you can watch it on YouTube.
