Israeli pianist Eden Agranat Meged is a full ABRSM Scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music, London, in the class of Ian Fountain. He started his piano studies in Jerusalem with Anat Paul at the Hasadna Conservatory and continued with Adela Umansky, at the Kfar-Saba Conservatory. Eden won the first prizes in the Lillian Davis Piano Competition, London, the Harriet Cohen Bach Competition, London, and the Pnina Salzman Piano Competitions, Israel. He won the 3rd prize in the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Competition. He receives the AICF – American Israel Culture Foundation Scholarships and the Zfunot Culture Scholarships.

Murray Perahia has been a central mentor for Eden, guiding Eden at the selective JMC Excellence Piano Program. Today we welcome Father Sean Duggan to the podcast. Pianist Sean Duggan is a monk of St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, Louisiana. He is also a professor of piano at SUNY Fredonia. Father Sean is a master pianist and a master teacher. His teaching and playing was and is enhanced in studying with Edna Golandsky.

Pianist Sean Duggan is a monk of St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, Louisiana. He obtained his music degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans and Carnegie Mellon University. He received a Master’s degree in theology from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. From 1988 to 2001 he taught music, Latin, and religion at St. Joseph Seminary College in Louisiana and was director of music and organist at St. Joseph Abbey.

In September 1983 he won first prize in the Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition for Pianists in Washington, D.C., and again in August 1991. Having a special affinity for the music of Bach, in 2000 he performed the complete cycle of Bach’s keyboard works eight times in various American and European cities. For seven years he hosted a weekly program on the New Orleans NPR station entitled “Bach on Sunday.” He is presently in the midst of recording the complete cycle of Bach’s keyboard (piano) music, which will comprise 24 CDs.

Before he joined the Benedictine order he was pianist and assistant chorus master for the Pittsburgh Opera Company for three years. He has performed with many orchestras including the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Leipzig Baroque Soloists, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the American Chamber Orchestra, and the Pennsylvania Sinfonia. From 2001 to 2004 he was a visiting professor of piano at the University of Michigan. Currently he is associate professor of piano at SUNY at Fredonia. During the fall semester of 2008 he was also a guest professor of piano at Eastman School of Music. He has been a guest artist and adjudicator at the Chautauqua Institution for several summers, and is also a faculty member of the Golandsky Institute at Princeton, New Jersey. He continues to study the Taubman approach with Edna Golandsky in New York City.

Deren Eryılmaz started her formal music education at Bilkent University, Music Preparatory School in Ankara, Turkey. She attended the Piano Department of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent University, with a merit scholarship.

She continued her education at the Rotterdam Conservatory (CODARTS) as a student of Michael Davidson in 1999 and graduated and got her bachelor degree in 2003. She participated in several master classes in Turkey and abroad; studied with Pascal Devonyon, Gülsin Onay, Mehmet Okonsar, Aquiles Delle Vigne and Georgy Sandor. Eryılmaz performed at various festivals, gave solo and chamber music concerts, participated in multidisciplinary performances and performed with national and university orchestras as a soloist in The Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey and France.

Eryılmaz received her master’s degree at Baskent University State Conservatory in Ankara under the supervision of Mehmet Okonsar in 2007. She also worked as a research assistant during her studies at this university while she was responsible for organising the national and international concert tours of the Baskent University String Orchestra. Between 2005-2009, Eryılmaz was the Chair of the Selection and Organization Committee at The Center for Contemporary Arts, Ankara. Throughout four concert seasons, the Committee, under the supervision of Eryılmaz, organized over 100 chamber music concerts as well as electro-acoustic concert series, lunch concert series, world music and jazz series with renowned international performers. She was a member of the Academic Team of the Bilkent University, Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, as a lecturer and instructor (2008-2011) at the Piano Department.

In addition to her academic duties and responsibilities, she was the coordinator of the Piano Department (2009-2011) and the Performance Organization Coordinator (2008-2010). She also supervised the Early Age Music Training Program (2009-2010) and Erasmus Departmental Exchange Program (2009-2011). Eryılmaz started working on the Taubman Approach with Edna Golandsky in 2011 in New York. Following her acceptance to the Teacher Training Program of the Golandsky Institute in 2013, she is certified as an Instructor of the Institute in 2014, Associate Level teacher in 2016 and Master Level teacher in 2021.

The students she has been teaching throughout her academic career have been successful in receiving acceptance to internationally distinguished schools with full scholarship grants, as well as in performing as soloists with various orchestras. Mezzo-soprano Ann Marie Adamick is a lifelong singer and performer who has worked with a variety of classical choral groups for over thirty years. She is a frequent soloist in the Capital Region of New York, appearing with Saratoga Voices and the Schenectady Octavo Singers in performances of Handel’s The Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Rutter’s Magnificat. Ann Marie is also a pianist returning to playing who has been studying the Taubman Approach with Mary Moran since early 2022. Professionally, Ann Marie teaches English as a Second Language for WSWHE BOCES.

Born in Kyoto Japan and raised in North Carolina, pianist Jeff Nations began studying at the age of eight and playing professionally by the age of sixteen, performing in local establishments in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Actively competing by the age of twelve, he was the recipient of numerous awards, and by age 17 was the first prize winner in the Young Artist Competition held by the Raleigh Piano Teachers' Association. The next year he took first prize in the Concerto Division of the same competition, performing the final movement of Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G minor.

He was a finalist in the Sanford Scholarship Competition to attend The North Carolina School of the Arts, where his teachers were Marian Hahn and Robert McDonald. While attending NCSA, Mr. Nations was a member of the ONYX Contemporary Ensemble, under which he premiered his own work "Night Fantasy" for solo piano (not to be confused with the work by Elliot Carter of the same title).

Upon graduating from NCSA with the prestigious Irwin Freundlich Award in Piano, he was offered a scholarship to study with pianist David Bradshaw in New York City.

He has performed in various cities throughout the U.S., including New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., San Antonio, as well as throughout North Carolina and Ohio. His Philadelphia performances include recitals at The Church of Saint Luke and the Epiphany, The Ethical Society of Philadelphia, The Fleischer Art Memorial, Jacob's Music, and The Karin Fuller Capanna Memorial Concert at the Settlement Music School.

A classical artist who is accomplished in a variety of musical genres including popular idioms, musical theater, and gospel, he has consistently endeavored to break through barriers that have often stood between the classical musician and the public. From 1995 to 1998 he was a regular pianist for The Philadelphia Gospel Seminars Choir and the Villanova Gospel Choir.

Recognized for his performances of works by American composers, he has collaborated extensively with Soprano Diana Barnhart and has also served as Artistic Ambassador for the United States Government, performing in over twenty recitals in countries throughout the Middle East including Saudi Arabia, Syria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Oman and Egypt as well as conducting master classes at the Cairo and Alexandria Conservatories.

He has lectured on the Taubman Approach and since 1998 has been studying the Taubman Approach with Robert Durso, Senior Faculty Member of The Golandsky Institute.

A former faculty member of the Settlement Music School, Mr. Nations now teaches privately in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.

Vincent Wong is a dedicated music educator and pianist, specializing in piano improvisation. With a deep belief in the transformative power of improvisation, Wong is committed to providing students with a holistic approach to learning music.

With a rich musical background, Wong has honed his skills through extensive experience and training. He has had the privilege of collaborating with renowned musicians and ensembles in diverse genres, including classical, baroque, contemporary, and non-classical music.

Notable recent productions showcasing Wong's musical prowess include his involvement in the successful arrangements for "Animenz" and the Hong Kong Doujin Philharmonia in 2023. He also participated in the post music production of the movie”Still Human". Wong's compositions have been recognized and he has served as a member of CASH in Hong Kong. He worked as a media composer at Hong Kong TML Media.

As an educator, Wong brings a wealth of teaching methods and experiences to his students. He has completed ANCOS Orff music and movement education level courses level 1, studied the Dalcroze method under Joseph Reizer, and participated in a Dalcroze workshop at Carnegie Mellon University. In fact, he was invited to speak at the Montessori Asia conference in Hong Kong in 2017, where he shared his unique approach to music education.

Wong's commitment to fostering creativity and musical expression through piano improvisation is evident in his teaching philosophy. By imparting the skills and techniques of improvisation, Wong empowers his students to explore their own musicality and develop a deep connection to their instrument.

Wong holds a Master of Education from Hong Kong Baptist University, having previously earned a first-honor Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the same institution. His passion for music sparked at a young age when he began playing the piano at six years old. Throughout his musical journey, Wong has been privileged to study under esteemed instructors such as Mr. Shi Jing Lin, Miss Kwok Ting, Mr. Raymond Young, and Mrs. Nancy Loo. Barbara Banacos is the daughter of world-renowned jazz educator Charlie Banacos and pianist/educator Margaret Banacos. She began teaching in her mother's studio in 1997. Ms. Banacos teaches children and adults from beginner to advanced levels with a focus on classical music and offers advanced technical training in the Taubman Approach.

While completing her undergrad and graduate degrees in music from CUNY Hunter College, Ms. Banacos ran a private studio in Millburn/Short Hills, NJ and taught at Montclair State University Preparatory School. Since returning to the Boston area in 2003, Ms. Banacos teaches in-home private lessons in Lexington and Winchester, MA and at her home studio in Hamilton, MA. She has also taught remotely since 2010, reaching students as far away as Malaysia and New Zealand.

One of only three teachers in the Boston area certified in the Taubman Approach, Ms. Banacos has studied with Robert Durso of the Golandsky Institute since 1997. She is certified at the Associate level with the Golandsky Institute, is adjunct faculty for their annual summer symposiums at Princeton University and has led their support groups for many years. She has presented lectures on piano technique at the Golandsky Institute Boston Workshops and was invited to teach at the Danilo Pérez Foundation in Panama, assisting Edna Golandsky. Lina Bagepalli is also abstract expressionist painter originally from Niskayuna, NY. Painting and figure drawing have been lifelong passions for Lina. She uses heavy body acrylic paint on canvas to create realistic portraits of women with impressionistic textures and colors that depict the vibrancy of nature. The works capture the feelings of joy, intensity and passion that we sometimes lose sight of in our lives. The figure paintings represent vulnerability and strength in the female form. As she has continued to develop her style, Lina has moved into abstract impressionism experimenting with colors and textures. Currently, Lina works as a Scientist at Shape therapeutics based in Cambridge, MA
