Ep. 18 - 'Touch Grass' Part 1: The Enshittification Of The Internet
Inner-Strength Check
11/05/23 • 75 min
The core tenet of this podcast is around legitimising the value of the arts, interests, hobbies and leisure in today's increasingly stressful, commodified world.
There's no better example of why this matters more than ever than the absolute dumpster-fire we're faced with in terms of user experiences on social media and like, in 2023.
Join me as we explore exactly how, where and why Big Tech is becoming 'enshittified'.

Ep. 12: Forbidden Lands Campaign Audio-Narration
Inner-Strength Check
07/23/23 • 5 min
Now and then, I'll be dropping some pieces of media here and there from my GM-ing in various RPG campaigns.
This is a little introductory spiel I cooked up with some corny narration, to introduce our TTRPG group to the fantastic Forbidden Lands system.
It's a brief spiel around the lore. Stay tuned for more random bits and pieces of silly content in future!
More Forbidden Lands content to come in future. Travel safe, adventurers.

Ep. 6 - The March 2023 Not-An-Update Anti-Update (Update)
Inner-Strength Check
03/05/23 • 41 min
Say that title three times in quick succession to summon the extradimensional horror of your choosing!
I've seen a lot of apologies and even sentiments of guilt in the everyday language within the content-creator/creative/influencer space lately.
Heck, even people expressing their sincerest apologies for not having gotten pictures up on social media in an arbitrarily 'timely' enough fashion.
Leaving any sort of relative silence or inconsistency in posting content (of any form) onto the Internet seems to becoming a growing source of anxiety from creatives and influencers.
A real-world lack of capacity to feed the hamster-wheel of endless digital consumption is something I'm noticing more in everyday discourse.
Join me as I paradoxically spend 40 minutes butchering silence, to discuss a few things I've noticed about our growing discomfort with it. Both from the perspective of a neurodivergent/mentally-spicy person, and moreover just a human being making and consoom-ing Internet in 2023.

Ep. 3 - Catchup & My Hobby Trajectory.
Inner-Strength Check
07/08/22 • 49 min
Hi All,
Been a while between episodes - a LOT has gone on this year.
I've had a bit of a crisis of confidence in this whole podcasting stuff, so I have avoided it for a while. Plus mental health stuff. Today's episode I do a bit of a catch-up on where I'm at in 2022 around work, hobbies, life etc, before the meat of the episode 'bout halfway through.
Rounding out the first few initial episodes to give you, the listener, some overall scope on your hosts' lived experience with mental health recovery and fun stuff, is a dive into how I've more recently fallen down into nerd hobby holes I never thought I would.
We dive more into how the hell a weird bogan-nerd-hybrid like me ever went from scoffing at Tabletop RPGs as a hobby ('You mean telling stories with paper and maths?! Gross, yuck, ew no') to that now being a huge aspect of what I enjoy in my non-working life.
As this is a podcast focused on how mental health and other factors intersect with enjoying and growing in non-work interests, we go briefly into how that, executive dysfunction and other factors play into it too - these will be touched on in a more meta level in future episodes.
From here, I do intend on making the podcast less 'me-focused' (although using lived experiences as examples, ofc) and more on the meta of gaming, music, mental health in the community as well as strategies and tips for you guys, too.
Stick around, some in-depth stuff coming in the future, but more casual and fun stuff as well.
If you wanna support the podcast - don't. Donate to a good, charitable cause (and me not slamming $10 house pints til I'm near-chundering) at:

Cheers, and both good fun and mental health to you!
Thanks for listening.
Brady

Ep. 1 - Inside the Computer
Inner-Strength Check
11/15/21 • 66 min
Welcome to Inner-Strength Check, a podcast at the confluence of mental health, hobbies, leisure, society and community.
For today's episode, I decided to give you all a bit of an honest peek behind the GM screen and detail my own mental health recovery/neurodiversity trajectory over time, up to the present day. I felt it important not only to set the tone for the mental health side of things, but for you get a more honest and raw appraisal of your show host.
Coming up next will be Behind The Screen, which is parallel to this episode but will be more involved with discussing how my hobbies and leisure have formed, changed and persist from the past to the present day. From there, we'll expand out much more broadly to look at gaming, mental health and the like on a community and systemic level.
Please do get in touch if you're interested in coming on board as a guest, co-host or even just to game together!
Cheers,
Brady.

Ep. 23 [Interview] with Matt Pike and Coady Willis of High On Fire
Inner-Strength Check
05/03/24 • 25 min
A first-time for me for sure... not one, but two incredible musicians from a much-beloved band of mine in the same interview - stoner metal legends High On Fire!
Matt Pike (Vocals/Guitars) Coady Willis (Drums) and I discuss their recently-released 13th studio LP 'Cometh The Storm', out now via MNRK Records.
-
In the chat, we discuss Coady's arrival into the band, the songwriting and inter-band dynamics as a power-trio and of course both international touring (hint) and the process of recording their latest smasher of an LP. -
Iconic U.S. rock band, High on Fire, released its' new LP, Cometh the Storm, on April 19 via MNRK Heavy. The GRAMMY Award-winning group, celebrating its 25th anniversary, recorded 'Cometh the Storm' at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou.
The 11-song effort -- the band's ninth studio album -- marks the release of the first new High on Fire music since 2018's Electric Messiah.

Welcome to my first ever audio podcast interview!
Deadlifts and Death Metal is a local staple of the Melbourne heavy music scene, augmenting the metal community's love of sensory modulation through lifting and riffing.
We run through a mutual Q and A format, and take things both from my perspective as a neurospicy social worker, and Elissa's framework as a trainer/business entrepeneur.

Ep. 19 [Review] Afterbirth - 'In But Not Of' LP
Inner-Strength Check
11/17/23 • 19 min
A supergroup of brutal death metal luminaries, New York's Afterbirth have absolutely hit it out of the park with this one. In a time where 'progressive' death metal is starting to coagulate into a similar-sounding theme, these guys have deliberately chosen their own brutal, mesmerising path.
A unique and truly envelope-pushing LP, 'In But Not Of' is truly one of my favourite heavy albums of 2023.
If you claim to like progressive extreme metal, this is a must-listen. Seriously.
The album is out now via Willowtip Records and all major streaming platforms.
