Ep 50 – Neurodiversity at Work with Professor Amanda Kirby
Influence & Impact for female leaders
05/30/21 • 62 min
In this week’s episode, I interview Professor Amanda Kirby about a fascinating topic – neurodiversity – and how we can create inclusive workplaces for everyone.
Neurodiversity is an emerging subject especially in relation to adults and the workplace. Put simply, it defines the different ways we think, act and communicate.
Some of us are neurodivergent which means the way we do these things is different from the “average” or “norm”. This influences our individual strengths and challenges.
In the episode we discussed:
- What neurodiversity is and understanding what it means for individuals at work
- The positive benefits of having a neurodiverse workplace
- How leaders and work spaces can support neurodivergent colleagues
- Practical ways you can create an inclusive recruitment and onboarding process
- Amanda’s tool for profiling your own neurodiverse strengths and challenges
I hope this podcast helps you to understand neurodiversity better, consider how you can create an open and supportive environment for neurodivergent team members and embrace the strengths they bring to their work.
If you’d like to assess your own neurodiversity, you can do it for free on the Neurodiversity App.
Download it here: https://profiler.app/nd-app/
You can pre order Amanda’s book co-authored with Theo Smith.

Ep 49 – Struggle and Leadership with Grace Marshall
Influence & Impact for female leaders
05/23/21 • 51 min
As a leader do you feel comfortable sharing when you’re struggling? In general, we don’t talk about struggle a lot but Grace Marshall wants to open up the conversation.
This week on the Influence & Impact for Female Leaders podcast, I interviewed Grace about struggle, leadership and her new book Struggle: the surprising truth, beauty and opportunity hidden in life’s sh*ttier moments.
We discussed:
- Why we all have struggle and why we should remove the self-judgement around it
- What you can do if you’re struggling as a leader
- The power of your emotions and how you can acknowledge and express them in a work environment
- Grace’s unique three step process for handling struggle as it happens
As a leader, sometimes we put ourselves on a pedestal and hold high expectations of how we should handle difficult or uncertain situations.
I hope this episode helps you to see struggle from a different perspective, understand that you don’t always need to show up perfectly or have everything figured out and that it’s ok to ask for support.
As Grace says, what if struggle is precisely where the magic happens? Shouldn’t we embrace it if it’s where we can do our best, most important work?

Ep 143 How to challenge Upwards without damaging your career
Influence & Impact for female leaders
09/03/23 • 26 min
There are these unspoken rules about the world of work that most of us buy into without questioning. One of those rules is that we don’t say no to our line manager or disagree with senior stakeholders. As a result, people end up frustrated, overworked, and demotivated because they’ve never learnt how to challenge the thinking of senior stakeholders without challenging their authority. They’ve never learnt how to speak truth to power.
In this episode of the Influence & Impact for Female Leaders podcast I will be sharing 9 practical strategies to help you to disagree with someone in authority without negatively impacting your career or your relationship. Whether you are dealing with your line manager, senior management team or your board you will find practical insights you can use to learn how to challenge in a constructive and career building way.
