Episode Art by Eliza Kingsley! You can find her at Instagram @epikot.and her website portfolio elizakingsley.com.

Critical Race Theory has been a hot topic in education and politically all of 2020 up until present day (March 2022). In this episode I talk about the context of the term " Critical Race Theory" which I refer to as CRT during the episode for short. I speak about different points of views parents might be concerned about and the impact it has on our students. Who are the people that have time for this and why are they upset? My overall take is that there is some degree of empathy and self awareness that we need in order to talk about the root problems!

Inclusive Education IRL - What is the Overlap of ELL and SPED?
play

11/15/21 • 11 min

The line between English Language Learners (ELL) and Special Education Students (SPED) is blurred at times. It is difficult for parents and staff to keep track of all the changes and make sense of what they mean. I believe that there is much work to be done in the area of helping students that are classified as ELL and SPED and improving the instruction given to them.

Inclusive Education IRL - What in the Heck is a English Language Learner ( E.L.L )?
play

10/10/21 • 17 min

English Language Learner( E.L.L ) programs are supposed to be designed to support students in learning English. The problem is that many E.L.L students only know English and the "support" they are receiving is low quality and doesn't help them grow in the areas they need support in. All of this can be avoided by marking that English is the only language spoken at home when enrolling your child into school.

Inclusive Education IRL - The Stigma of Special Education

The Stigma of Special Education

Inclusive Education IRL

play

03/22/21 • 38 min

The stigma of Special Education affects students, parents, teachers negatively in different ways. Students with Special Education services have to deal with the label, that at times prevents them from receiving support and acceptance from their family, peers, and teachers. Parents have to accept the label of having a child that receive special education in order to receive more support and try different approaches. Special Education teachers have to establish their role with their co-teachers, while supporting their students and their families.
