Ally shares some interesting insights into her research with the Elements at O2 and the differing perceptions of their ability to reach a senior leadership position within the business.

She followed through on a hunch she observed during many leadership workshops, that if you have a high preference for Water (calm and relationship oriented) AND are female, the opportunities of obtaining or seeking a senior leadership role in the organisation were low. The impact of this very likely meant a significant proportion of the whole employee population were potentially being overlooked for development opportunities. Ally set out to prove her theory, and with her findings was able to raise the broader issue of inclusion and what it means at O2.

In this 30 minute episode she shares more about the nature of inclusion, leadership and strategies organisations can use in promoting greater respect for diversity in senior roles, and shares some of the initiatives O2 have implemented in recent years to help push their inclusion agenda forward.

The results should serve as a role model for catalysing action for many large and small organisations across the globe.

Bio: Allyson Fay

Ally is currently Employee Engagement and Experience Manager at O2/ Telefonica. She is a Senior Leadership Development Consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the telecommunications industry. Ally is a Master TetraMap Facilitator and member of TetraMap's Global Leadership Group.

Ally has recently discovered a love of gardening and says it perfectly reflects her whan she is In Her Element, learning something new, watching something grow, and building strong relationships - in this case with her Dad.

Ally's quote came from the wonderful book by Paulo Coelho – ‘The Alchemist’

“We are travellers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”

Ruhia is a Master TetraMap Facilitator, and like all great teachers is also a student of learning. She is currently studying full time at Waikato University. And taking a total immersion course in Te Reo – called Te Tohu Paetahi and for those that don’t know Te Reo is the language for Maori – the indigenous peoples of New Zealand .

Working with and learning from the wisdom of Maori is and always has been very important to us at TetraMap and Ruhia has played a generous and significant part in that. In this episodes she describes the practices and principles that govern Maori values and beliefs and how nature plays such an important role in her culture. .

We met back in 2011 – just after the massive Christchurch earthquake, and I remember the day very well. Since then, we have enjoyed a long- lasting relationship with Ruhia and the team she worked with her through her previous role in Practice Excellence, at Te Wananga O Aotearoa.

Whilst at Te Wananga, Ruhia wrote a case study which you can see on TetraMap's website. It explores how they used TetraMap to develop a unique indigenous communication model that supports cultural diversity, fosters stronger leadership and deepens the educational experience for both tutors and students.

Ruhia's quote was one handed down by her own mother, relating to Earth, Air, Water and Fire. "When one of these Elements is missing, the body, soul and mind become unwell."

We hear from Andrew Melville, a long time friend of TetraMap and also the editor of our book ‘ Develop People and Business the way Nature intended’.

Andrew narrates part 3 of the book for our listeners, and in this reading he describes how the Elements go 3D and are mapped onto the exquisitely elegant shape of the tetrahedron.

He sums up the episode with this from Neal Donald Walshe

The greatest complexity is the greatest simplicity. The more 'complex' a system is, the more simple its design. Indeed it is utterly elegant in its simplcity. . .

She has an impressive background from her tenure at Imperial College, London where she was the Head of Centre for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Diverse Minds aims to create a positively productive workplace for all through training, coaching and consultancy. The focus is placed on wellbeing, mental health and by understanding differences.

Leyla explains how TetraMap has become an important tool in her toolkit, and how its simplicitiy helps people to open up, relax, laugh, and be creative whilst learning about themselves and others. She appreciates how it provides a safe way to celebrate and understand uniqueness, diversity, difference and culture.

She also explains how she uses TetraMap along side another tool in her leadership workshops - the TMI team management profile. Leyla says the combination of the two tools - one psychometric and one not, creates rich, deep and valuable learning for her workshop participants.

Her book reference - Rejection Proof, comes from Jia Jaing along with You Tube videos and a TED talk - gives all us much more to explore.

Nicki shares her passion for nature and illustrates how she includes this in all her workshops to bring a greater sense of connection to each other and the planet we live on. It is this combination that has driven her desire to create a collaborative conference 'Leading for a Better World' to be held on 22 May 2020 at the most fabulous venue reflecting the diversity of nature - The Eden Project in Cornwall.

The book Nicki referenced is called The Nature of Leadership and the Sundance Promise is:

“If you will open yourself to the natural environment, the people around you, and timeless principles, you will find personal and specific answers to the leadership challenges and opportunities you face.”
