J.R. Minard Interview: "Coach in Cottage C" Historical Fiction
04/20/20 • 31 min
A long time Florida resident, J.R. Minard taught in high school and junior college classrooms and raised two teenage daughters. She later became part of the faculty at the Job Corps in Charles Town, WV and taught the GED program to young men and women who wished to complete their high school diploma and become employed. She spends time as a volunteer with the Patriotic Service Dogs who are trained at Lowell Correctional Institute in Ocala, Florida.
A mid-life crisis and a reunion with a dear friend, Rose Imregi, ignited a buried determination to write. A chance encounter with a well- known FSU football quarterback who told of his life changing experiences the following evening, clinched the deal. Together they wrote a passionate novel that sets the story straight about the Florida School for Boys, a boys’ reform school now known as the Dozier School for Boys.
