Today we're casting light on "the wickedest man in the world," Aleister Crowley. If we had to choose a word to describe this guy it would be "extreme." From hearing the disembodied voices of Egyptian gods, to getting deported from Italy by the Italian government, Crowley's story is full of mania, bigotry, and obsession. Join us as we open this dark chapter of Tarot history.

Politics of Tarot with Alana Davenport
In Search of Tarot
09/20/21 • 50 min
My guest today is Alana Davenport, who brings over 20 years of Tarot practice and social justice activism experience to writing about Tarot. Alana is a full-time parent of two young children and holds an interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Humanities & Social Thought from New York University, a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, and all of the accompanying debt. Alana’s next project is writing a book on reading Tarot politically, based on content from her/their Instagram account @politicsoftarot.
IN THIS CONVERSATION Alana and I discuss her work in social activism and how she allows her strong sense of justice to inform her approach to the cards. We also hone in on Three of Swords as an ally in the often painful work of unlearning, and speak at length about my business name "Man of the Cards" and why I have chosen to keep it even after my own journey with gender and identity.
Alana’s new Tarot & Politics zine will be available for purchase by donation via @politicsoftarot beginning September 24. I am honored to be one of the featured writers in this first edition, alongside many other brilliant tarot readers, teachers, and thinkers.

Crow Mother with Liza Fenster
In Search of Tarot
05/17/21 • 58 min
Liza (She Her Hers) is a life long Witch who works as Reiki Master Teacher, Tarot Educator/Reader and Ordained Minister. Acting in this way as community servant, she is committed to both ecological and community healing on local and global levels - and with that, deeply committed to social justice and the healing and reparation of BIPOC communities and to the decolonization of wellness.
It was truly an honor to hear Liza speak about the magic of the body, and the power of being embodied in human form, particularly in relation to child-carrying and the act of giving birth. She also explained to me how meeting her biological father and reconnecting with her indigenous heritage led her to serve Crow Mother, and together we found space for goddexx in everything, even social media. Above all, Liza's story reminded me of the innate power we all inherit through the simple, yet profound, act of being alive.

Quarterly Questions: Glamour Magic
In Search of Tarot
04/06/22 • 24 min
We all love to feel glamorous, but did you know that when you use your wardrobe to cast a spell, you're also being grammatically correct? Etymologically speaking, that is.
IN THIS CONVERSATION Angie and I dive into the surprising history behind the word "glamour," channel the power and grit of Aragorn from LOTR, and bemoan the frustrating way our society ascribes so much meaning to the clothing we wear.
