Imagination Skyway - Bret Iwan (the Voice of Mickey Mouse)
play

10/19/19 • 63 min

Bret Iwan has been the official voice of Mickey Mouse for the last 10 years and is only the fourth voice actor in Mickey's lifetime to officially play the role (first was Walt Disney, then Jimmy MacDonald, then Wayne Allwine). Whether it's Disney on Ice, a new attraction in the Disney Parks, a video game, TV show or animated short, Bret is the one who gets to bring Mickey's voice to life.

In this episode, I have the honor of interviewing Bret as we discuss his love of Disney from the time he was a kid, his original career interests, how he came to play the role of Mickey, and what it means to play the most iconic character in history. You're not going to want to miss this one!

What do you love most about Mickey Mouse? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show:

Imagination Skyway - Disneyland Paris Vacation Planning (Part 1)
play

11/05/22 • 62 min

Disneyland Paris offers Disney fans the unique opportunity to visit a familiar destination (Disney) while experiencing French culture and cuisine. With two parks (Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park) plus a half dozen Disney-owned resort hotels, Disney Village, and more, Disneyland Paris Resort offers attractions that are similar to ones you will find at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and many more you can only experience in France. Even if you're not a hard-core Disney fan, Disneyland Paris is worth seeing and provides a wonderful excuse to experience Paris, France, and other parts of Europe.

In this episode, I'm joined by a former podcast guest (Kristina) and a new guest (Richard), both of whom have visited Disneyland Paris several times (in fact, Richard is an Annual Passholder). We discuss our tips, strategies and advice for planning a first visit to Disneyland Paris. We discuss the reasons you should consider making the trip to France, differences between the Disneyland Paris Resort and Disneyland and Walt Disney World, where to stay (including some incredible "good neighbor" options), how many days to visit the parks, Premier Access, French culture, and other recommendations.

What would be your dream Disneyland Paris vacation itinerary? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show:

Imagination Skyway - Imagineering Pandora – The World of Avatar (Part 1)
play

01/30/21 • 62 min

Pandora – The World of Avatar raised the bar for immersive themed lands when it opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 2017. Between Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, Satu'li Canteen, Pongu Pongu, and of course the land itself, travelers visiting the Valley of Mo'ara (courtesy of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, per the story) are transported to an alien world that feels all too real. That's thanks to the countless Imagineers who put years of work into creating the land's attractions. While many think of Imagineer Joe Rohde or even Director James Cameron while exploring the land (virtually or in person), there are countless others who contributed to the land's design, including my two special guests on today's episode: Adam and Rebecca.

Adam, a former Set Decorator for Walt Disney Imagineering, and Rebecca, a former Scenic Artist working for a contractor, helped to literally set the stage for Pandora – The World of Avatar. From hand-weaving artwork at Satu'li Canteen to setting in place the tiniest details in the Flight of Passage queue, Adam and Rebecca helped bring the story of Pandora into the real world. In this two-part episode, we'll discuss how to land a job at Walt Disney Imagineering, reveal what the day-to-day is like for most Imagineers and contractors working on a project, and of course share the stories that contributed to the many details around the land itself. I'd like to extend a huge thank you to both Adam and Rebecca for lending their time and stories to this two-part episode!

For part 1, I'd love to know what you enjoyed most from this conversation. Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show:

Walt Disney World and Disneyland get an extra dose of magic during the holiday season. Whether you're visiting Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, a Disney Resort hotel, or any other Disney destination around the world, experiencing Disney at Christmas is worth the trip, and that's why I'm here to help you think about the holiday season about 5 months in advance! Posting this episode in July will help you plan out your next Disney vacation for the holidays, which I of course encourage you to do with our travel partner, Academy Travel.

In this episode, we'll experience some holiday nostalgia with a trip to Magic Kingdom to experience Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, both available at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (no confirmation from Disney on when they will return post-pandemic). We'll also head to Disney California Adventure to experience World of Color Winter Dreams.

Imagination Skyway - Disney Magic at Home (Coping with the "Disney Blues")
play

01/12/19 • 72 min

While we love traveling to the Disney Parks, one of the saddest moments is having to leave. Whether it happens when you're boarding the Magical Express, crossing through the gates from Walt Disney World, boarding your plane, or arriving at your front door, the "Disney blues" are bound to set in at some point. To help cope with these Disney blues, we as Disney fans often purchase merchandise, watch videos, listen to Disney music and even light scented candles to help us rekindle that magic. In today's episode, we'll discuss our favorite ways to bring the Disney magic home with us.

How do you cope with the "Disney blues" after your vacation? What are some of the ways that you bring the magic home with you? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show:

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge offers Walt Disney World guests the enchantment of an African reserve lodge in Central Florida, with sweeping savanna views where over 30 species of African animals roam, table-service African cuisine (Sanaa, Boma, and Jiko) and quick-service offerings (The Mara), shopping, and some of the best pools on Disney property. Jambo House and Kidani Village also include Disney Vacation Club studios and villas, as well as one of the largest collections of African art outside of Africa.
