I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “So, The Oscars Happened…” (Episode 3)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
03/06/14 • -1 min
Recording a podcast while working a daytime job is way harder to coordinate than I thought. How do I know this? Two weeks absolutely blew by without Justine and I getting together, thanks to the hustle and bustle of life, but since we started twitching from our podcasting withdrawal, I’d Rather Be At The Movies is back! You all missed us, right? Right?! Should I stop begging for your love now?
While there were a ton of titles that I’d Rather Be At The Movies missed over the last two weeks, there’s one thing on everyone’s mind after this weekend – The Oscars. Or not? That’s the problem with this year’s event – did it really beg a memorable response? Did Ellen Degeneres win over audiences and work her way into the Oscar Host Hall of Fame? Were there any surprises in terms of awards? Knock-out segments? Gratuitous celebrity self-wanking and back patting? Don’t worry, 12 Years A Slave won best picture, so we can all take solace in the fact that the Academy did something right – even if all voters didn’t even bother to watch Steve McQueen’s powerfully moving picture.
Aside from our Oscar discussion, guess what – I watched a bunch of indie movies again. Surprised, right? There are so many wonderful films released through Video On Demand platforms and I just can’t help myself from talking about them. Of course, that means Justine had to sit and listen to me talk about insane stuff like murderous nurses and Chatroulette murderers, but you’re getting her honest reaction – which helps keeps me in check. You get my recommendations, and also the person keeping my explanations sane. The best of both worlds!
Anyway, without any more rambling, enjoy another episode of I’d Rather Be At The Movies!

I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Golden Globes Extravaganza” (Episode 0)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
01/17/14 • -1 min
Those of you who enjoy podcasts have likely been listening to Jonathan Lack and his co-host Sean Chapman cover a bevy of topics from movies to gaming, coming to you once a week on WGTC Radio. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that there’s been a changing of the guard. WGTC Radio has been discontinued, but that does not spell the end for podcasting at We Got This Covered.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Matt Donato, and I’m an Associate Editor here at WGTC. Mainly focusing on film reviews and joint articles with my horror loving compadre Remy Carreiro, a bulk of my time is spent running the New York City press circuit, and that’s where I met the incomparable Justine Browning – who also happens to be our red carpet correspondent here in the Big Apple. So, why am I introducing Justine and myself? Yup, you guessed it – you’re looking at your two new podcast hosts.
We’re still in the very early stages of revamping our podcast format, but Justine and I will be covering the Film/TV/Blu-Ray side of the WGTC while our Gaming section puts together their own production. The iTunes page and all those other goodies will be ready soon enough for I’d Rather Be At The Movies, but just to give you a little taste of what Justine and I have to offer, here is our inaugural episode ready to pleasure your earholes. We’d love to hear your feedback and any comments you may have, as this is only the first of (hopefully) many episodes to come!
Enjoy this week’s episode where we recap the Golden Globes, discuss the biggest winners and losers, talk about which moments just didn’t belong, and advise you on which new releases are worth your while – both in theaters and on Blu-Ray.
Check it out below and be sure to come back next week!
I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Luck Of The Irish Edition” (Episode 5)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered

Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day everyone! If you’re reading this post and tuning in for another week’s worth of WGTC podcasting, then that means you’ve survived an onslaught of corned beef, Irish soda bread, and a non-stop stream of liquid emotion erasers (alcohol). Congratulations! You’ve lived to see another year, and more importantly another year full of myself and Justine bantering about the movie industry. Hell, we spent our own St. Patty’s Days holed up talking about cinema, as my night ended without a single drop of alcohol and the shame-eating of a burrito at 11:30PM. There’s always next year?
This week was a bit of a recap for Justine and myself, as last week I broadcasted (recorded) right out of the heart of Texas. We Got This Covered was doing what we do best and taking South by Southwest by storm. Unfortunately though, I was without my partner in crime Ms. Browning, so first I wanted to catch her up on everything she missed. A lot of fantastic movies were screened, and some super fun interviews were conducted, all of which are finding their way onto the site.
This week also sees the release of a few high profile movies, from Divergent to Muppets Most Wanted, but early reviews are coming in pretty mixed on both films. Concerning Divergent, it’s hard not to also question the future of Young Adult adaptations with such critically abysmal reviews slamming yet another Hunger Games wannabe. Will this be the end of tween action films aside from the already established franchises with a firm grasp on the genre? We have no idea, but we sure have our opinions!
Hope you all enjoy another episode of I’d Rather Be At The Movies, the best (by default) film podcast on WGTC!

I’d Rather Be At The Movies: SXSW Shenanigans (Episode 4)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
03/10/14 • -1 min
This week we have a very special edition of I’d Rather Be At The Movies, as we swap out Justine and throw in our editor in chief Matt Joseph, as well as Al Lowe, to discuss all things SXSW. The three of us are currently attending the festival and of course, we have tons of stories to share. From which films we’re digging to celebrity run-ins, from the insomnia to the awful diet we’ve all adapted – we have lots to tell you guys this week.
Obviously, if you want some more in-depth coverage, you can check out all of our reviews and interviews. If you want a more fun filled take on the festival though, you’re definitely going to want to check this episode out.
Don’t worry, Justine will be back next week for episode 5. For now though, sit back and listen to all of our SXSW shenanigans. We promise you that you’ll be interested in what the WGTC team has been up to in Austin over the past weekend.

I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Paying Tribute On A Dark Super Bowl Sunday” (Episode 1)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
02/05/14 • -1 min
The day is finally here! We’ve been promising you for weeks now that a film podcast would officially be starting once again to fill the WGTC Radio void, and that podcast is I’d Rather Be At The Movies. Joined by my co-host Justine Browning, each week we’ll be dishing out the latest in industry news, the newest big movie releases, those diamond-in-the-rough Blu-Ray arrivals and of course, some random bantering that you’ll obviously grow to love – LOVE US, DAMMIT!
We’ll be recording every Sunday here in lovely New York City, and you can expect an episode to be released every Wednesday for your listening pleasure.
Starting on Super Bowl Sunday would have been an absolute blast any other year, but with the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman announced only an hour before we recorded, an immediate reflection had to take place, honoring such a wonderful, talented man. Opening our first (official) episode of the podcast on such a somber note had to be done, and we paid tribute to Mr. Hoffman by revealing our favorite turns by the actor as a celebration of his work. Rest in peace, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
On a lighter note, Justine discusses her experiences watching Josh Brolin make pies in Labor Day, I won’t shut up about how EVERYTHING IS AWESOME about The LEGO Movie, we get nervous about The Monuments Men and I find another way to work Bad Milo! into yet another podcast! Yes, you’re never escaping my love for Milo – just accept it.
We’ve already had our warmups so let’s stop wasting time – enjoy Episode 1 of I’d Rather Be At The Movies!

I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Technical Difficulties And Movie Ranting” (Episode 0.5)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
01/29/14 • -1 min
Starting a podcast wouldn’t feel right without some technical difficulties right off the bat, and on our second episode in, my co-host Justine Browning and I found out an unfortunate fact – my Blue Snowball microphone doesn’t exactly get along with her laptop. Since I hiked across New York City to do the show, we attempted a salvage mission on this week’s episode, one that honestly turned out much better than expected. Please show some mercy as we were forced to record using only an internal microphone. Being the troopers that we are though, we powered ahead despite the small obstacle and are now bringing you another episode of I’d Rather Be At The Movies.
This week on our “still under construction” podcast, Justine and I discuss the typical new releases and whatnot, but we start by getting a little off topic and ranting away our recent pains (movie audiences and stereotypes). Sure, we’ll be all positive and talk about recent press days that the both of us attended, but every once and a while you just need to unleash your frustrations on anyone who will listen, and this week, that’s you! Hope you’re on our side!
Starting next week, we’re going to have the official launch of I’d Rather Be At The Movies – featuring the charmingly stunning Matt Donato and his lovely, bubbly, and wonderful co-host Justine Browning (complimenting yourself in third person makes me feel dirty). You can expect to see us every Wednesday, invading your earholes with cinema conversations surrounding industry news, new releases, Blu-Ray gems – and maybe a rant every now and then. iTunes, a flashy logo, the whole shebang – it’s coming, we promise. Until then, here’s another warm up to hold you over.
Check it out below and be sure to come back next week for our Grand Opening (for real this time!)
I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Matt Talks Current VOD Talent, Justine Listens” (Episode 2)

Well, well, well, look who’s back for more – or if you’re a first timer, welcome to I’d Rather Be At The Movies, We Got This Covered’s film podcast darling. Entering our second week of official podding, Justine and I are starting to get the hang of this whole “talk about movies” gig, but we’ll accept any feedback from you guys on how to become the best podcasters in the multiverse. Oh, you guys all know my co-host Justine Browning, right? New York City press circuit mainstay, and WGTC’s red carpet correspondent? Sorry newbies, don’t want to leave you uninformed.
This week sees some pretty interesting releases in Robocop, Endless Love, and Winter’s Tale – but honestly, who cares about those? You can stay tuned for theatrical reviews on all those titles and more, right here at WGTC, but this week I thought it’d be more fun to talk about lesser known Video On Demand releases that you could be watching instead of the generic Hollywood products – and Justine was certainly along for the ride. I do apologize for jabbering on about all the insane movies I watched last week, but think of this as an educational experience. Professor Nato came prepared, and Justine was my pupil – bless her heart for humoring me. From Grand Piano to Lucky Bastard, I’ve got a whole slew of movies worth recommending – or avoiding.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy another episode of I’d Rather Be At The Movies, connecting you with the latest in cinema and Blu-Ray happenings. Don’t forget to find us on Stitcher, subscribe on iTunes, follow our RSS feed – all that jazz – and don’t be afraid to get involved in the process! We love to hear what our listeners think. Hope everyone find’s this week’s podcast informative, and we encourage you to check out all the movies that were positively referenced. Did I mention you should all go watch Grand Piano right now? Wait, sorry, not right now, listen to the podcast first, THEN watch Grand Piano immediately. Don’t do it for me though – do it for Elijah Wood.

I’d Rather Be At The Movies: “Captain America Saves The Day!” (Episode 6)
I'd Rather Be At The Movies Archives – We Got This Covered
04/05/14 • -1 min
Well, it looks like the strenuous schedule of hosting a weekly podcast got to both Justine and I, because we’ve made the executive decision to turn I’d Rather Be At The Movies into a bi-monthly show – yes, you can expect fortnightly episodes from here on out. Until we’re funded by some multi-billionaire who can pay us to only talk about movies, life’s chaotic clutches will always have a grasp on the two of us, and adhering to a twice a month schedule makes much more sense. You wouldn’t want us to burn out and vanish off the face of podcasting, now would you?
With that said, we’re back once again to talk cinema, and what a week to return. With Captain America: The Winter Soldier opening this weekend, we’ve already got a nice box office behemoth to dissect – something I’ve already done in my review. I wanted Justine’s input on the franchise to aid my review, because we have wildly different opinions on Captain America: The First Avenger. She’s a supporter, I’m a nay sayer. What’s more entertaining than two hosts fighting over Chris Evans’ bulgy muscles and patriotic mindset? Nothing, it’s a rhetorical question, no need to answer.
Aside from the pertinent Marvel mumbo-jumbo, a few other big name movies came out that required our bantering. Going with more of an action angle this week, Justine was very excited to pick my brain about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s newest film Sabotage, and was equally interested to talk about the violent nature of The Raid 2. One of these movies is a tantalizing treat, while the other is a mean-spirited exploitation extravaganza with absolutely no value. Hint hint, Gareth Evans is responsible for the successful film – and if you don’t know who that director is, it’s time to find out what you’ve been missing.
So sit back and relax, and soak in another wonderful episode of I’d Rather Be At The Movies. As a note, please don’t comment at my gross mispronunciation of names. I’d had an awful long day at work, and we ended up podcasting in the dead of night. My brain was nothing more than glorified beef stroganoff. I know his name is Joe Manganiello, but when you’re deliriously discussing movies, sometimes those letters get all jumbled in your mouth. So be it. I accept your punishment.
Enjoy!
