Sugar, We’re Go(in) Down
I Love KL
02/06/20 • 31 min
Once a warehouse, and at one point, the most happening club in town, The Godown KL, located at 11, Lorong Ampang now aims to be a creative hub for the arts. What differentiates The Godown KL from other similarly repurposed buildings in town is it combines a warehouse that’s almost 100 years old with a newly built annex that’s rustic, yet artistic. How does The Godown KL plan to compete with other players in this increasingly saturated scene? I Love KL paid a visit to the space, when they hosted an event called “Temasya Taming Sari”, to pose this question, and more, to one of its owners.

Nestled in Zhongshan Building is Malaysia's very own cave of wonders: The Malaysia Design Archive (MDA). Initially a website in 2008, it is not just a collection of vintage images—rather, MDA promotes visual literacy to the general public by studying the context, themes and history of the illustrations and photographs from the colonial era to the present. Here to connect the dots between graphic design and the humanities are MDA members Chua Pei Ying and Nadia Nasaruddin.

Jalan Masjid India
I Love KL

As one of the more famous commercial enclaves in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Masjid India is bustling, and yet rooted in tradition and culture. Protect Our Flood Retention Ponds!
I Love KL
01/18/24 • 30 min
In a move that’s considered pretty regressive, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Land Executive Committee is planning to degazette the land around Sungai Bunus flood retention pond, less than 4 years after gazetting it as an impounding reservoir. Despite claiming that the degazettement will be done purely to amend the land status to “Flood Retention Pond and Open Area” from solely “Flood Retention Pond”, the revision might open up the risk of potential development taking place around the area in the future. President of Pereka Bandar, Shuhana Shamsuddin joins us to highlight the importance of flood retention ponds, and why they must be protected, alongside taking other measures to ensure that the city is able to cope and mitigate flash floods.
