Blog post on how to start a video podcast: https://www.bcast.fm/blog/video-podcast
Transcript:
How to start a video podcast. It's a great question, but the answer is actually very, very simple. The answer is that. The way you start a video podcast is exactly the same way. It was start an audio podcast. You need to understand exactly why you're doing this, what the name of the show is, what the position of the show is, who the guests will be, what the divine will be, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
As I have spoken about in a blog post holding below, and also in another episode in this series. So all of the same stuff applies. You still have to give a clear reason for why someone should subscribe. You still have to work really hard to make the audio content super valuable for a very specific persona.
And the whole video aspect comes in. Well, actually, if you're recording an audio podcast, you really should be recording video. Anyway, as, as an interview, if you're hosting the episodes, you need to see your guests. You need to look at your guests in a face to understand when they're being passionate, for example, or whether that question should be edited out.
And so I recommend always recording video and we recommend recording, uh, guest audio on zoom. So you have a zoom call essentially with video on you record that. You can also record your audio separately, locally on your machine with a tool called audacity it's free. So you get better quality audio and your.
Getting okay. Audio for the guests. You're not asking them to do anything complex cause you don't wanna, you don't wanna make the process too complicated for the guest. And so if you do that, then you can, and you're going to be recording audio. Now you're going to be recording audio and video, and then you can simply take the video file that you get from the zoom recording.
And you can upload that into YouTube, YouTube, if the core platform for. Uh, video podcast, uh, apple recently allowed video podcasts, but the, the, the consumption of video on apple podcasts is significantly lower than that on YouTube. And so you just need to have the ability to create a Payless, to create a YouTube channel and make sure that all of your episodes are uploaded there and they are tagged with relevant keywords.
You put relevant keywords in the title and description of course, to get that lovely inbound search traffic. Now, of course, it'd be cost once you you'll take the zoom audio. You'll. And there's in video, you will have to load the audio to be cast. And then what, because we'll do for you is, uh, send that audio along with a optimized thumbnail through to YouTube.
Uh, if you don't want to have the live video on YouTube, so you can choose, you can even have the video just with an image and the audio, or you can have the live video that's up to you. So, because we'll automatically put on the audio and that image, if you want the live video, you have to upload that separately.
So in summary, a video podcast or starting a video podcast is exactly the same process of starting an audio podcast. You are just publishing the video as well, which we actually recommend to all of our clients, to all of our B cast users is to. Actually produced the video as well. Typically not the live video, unless the, unless you're really serious about editing, but, but to definitely put the audio along with the image onto YouTube, because YouTube is growing massively really, really like great inbound first traffic.
So it's just basically extra exposure for your show, uh, for doing very little effort. Cause because we'll do that once domestically, I hope that helps. And I'll see you in the next episode.

Blog post with the full six steps and examples: https://www.bcast.fm/blog/how-to-start-a-podcast
Transcript:
Okay. The big question. How to start a podcast in this very short audio, I'm going to be going through the six steps you have to get, right. If you're going to start a podcast, but firstly, let's try to understand why you should be starting a podcast. Whenever I try to understand a complex question like that.
I look at what the really intelligent people are doing, and there's really intelligent people working at apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon, of course. And so all of these companies are investing in the podcasting space. Apple obviously have just rebranded or refresh apple podcasts. They also have invested very heavily in AirPods.
Google have refreshed Google podcasts and Google podcast manager. Recently, Spotify are focusing heavily on podcasts, buying up loads of companies and et cetera. Amazon has also obviously developed the Alexa, which is podcast compatible and have recently introduced podcasts to Amazon music. So we look at all these really, really intelligent people that the reason why you should start a podcast, but now let's get into the actual like process of starting a podcast.
Step one, you have to develop a plan. And by that, I mean, why do you want to start a podcast? How much do you want to start a podcast? Because it's going to be hard. It's going to be a long road, but if you. Adhere to the principles in this audio, you are very likely to succeed. And so once you understand that you then have to define what if the topic what's the big idea?
What if the reason for this podcast existing? Next we move on to who are the listeners, who is the perfect, you're going to the person you're going to add value to. If you don't do that, if you don't find someone who you're going to add value to, you're not going to have a successful podcast. You have to build an audience.
Whether you want to use the podcast for networking or not, you need to have an audience. If you're going to thrive in the world of podcasting. Next let's talking. Talk about naming. It needs to be concise. Insert relevant keywords. If you can make it easy on the tongue, keep it simple and look out for rhyme and alliteration opportunities.
Cause that's that helps people. Ashley. Remember your show? Here's some examples of other podcasts on beat cast. Sales ops demystified. So this, uh, no alliteration, but it includes that core word, mobile growth and pancakes is a little bit different than some mobile growth show shine. A podcast by star is simple.
It's short. It clearly shows the audience what the podcast is going to be about and then be more a podcast by pecan. This is a name which have aspirational. So once you have the name, you then need to move on to how you're going to describe the podcast. Uh, what is the two sentences that will very clearly show you exactly or show the, listen to exactly what the podcast is about and why they should listen.
You, then you have to choose the categories because we're going to be putting that into apple. Then you need to define the format. So is this going to be an interview show? It's going to be a monologue podcast. Is this going to be a co-host a podcast or is this going to be a story-based podcast? How long the FAA is going to be?
The most common length of a podcast episode is up to 30 minutes or 34% up to an hour is about 23%. Up to 15 minutes is 24. So shoot for between 15 and 30, you then need to define how often you're going to publish the answer to this question is always. At the greatest frequency you possibly can whilst maintaining the quality.
So if you want to do this podcasting thing, well, you need to be banging out regular, regular content, but it has to be good if you can't do good content weekly, do it by weekly. If you can't do good content biweekly. And that's all the prep you need to do for the show. Next let's talk about equipment. So what equipment do we need to, uh, to record?
There's really three core things. We need a microphone. We recommend the blue Yeti link will be below. You need headphones. We recommend the audio Technica headphones. Again, link will be below, and then you need a pop filter. These are three things. After that, we need some software. We need zoom. If you're going to be recording with guests and we need audacity.
If you're going to be recording on your own, if you're doing both of those, I'm actually recommend using both. So you record on zoom to get the guests audio, and you record on audacity free software link below to get your a local recording, which will be higher quality. Next of course, we need someone to host these audio files.
I may be biased, but we've spent two years building what we believe to be the best podcast ho...

Okay, how to start a podcast on YouTube. But before we explain how you do that, let's understand why you would want to do that. Now, YouTube is an incredible place. It's like the new, I think it's the third largest search engine in the world after Google and Amazon, but the. We think you want your podcast to be on YouTube is simply for organic search.
There's so many searches happening, and if you can optimize the titles descriptions of your episodes and you're putting them out on all the other podcasts feeds, but then you also push them through to YouTube. You're going to get that extra inbound traffic, the extra inbound attention for free. So that's why now let's work out how there, there are two ways.
First you can create your podcast just as normal, and then you basically need a way to create a video version of that. Now, maybe you're already recording video and you export a video version. That's what you can put on YouTube. If you're not exploring, um, YouTube, uh, if you're not recording a video, then you would need to get a video editor to somehow combine the audio.
With an image in order to put that onto YouTube and then you need to manually upload every asset onto YouTube. That is the, the hard way, um, the other way. And we built a piece of software that makes us really, really easy. It's called bee costume, probably on our domain right now. Is that you can upload your episode to be cast onto your RSS feed that goes out to apple, Spotify, et cetera.
But with two clicks, you can also send that audio along with a thumbnail that's optimized for YouTube, through big cast and into YouTube automatically you choose the playlist, you send it through with a couple of clicks and then if three minutes is already uploaded to YouTube first, you have to connect your YouTube account, but that's very easy.
And so this way you don't need a video editor. You don't have to separately log in and upload to YouTube, everything, just go through your, your names and your descriptions go through to YouTube. And so that is the way we recommend, uh, there are other podcast hosts to do this by thing. They're more expensive than us, but you can just go to dot FM and then you can get a free trial.
You can test this out. But it works like a dream and it automatically gets you more exposure for your show. So I highly recommend doing that. So there'll be links below that we'll link to docs to show you how to connect YouTube and how to publish to YouTube, but then also get to be cast FN to get that free trial.
Any questions you can reach out to us at support and we'll help you get that set up. Thank you for listening. And I'll see you in the next episode.

Okay, how to start a podcast on apple. This episode is going to tell you exactly how to do that, the exact process for doing it. So the first thing let's understand why you'd want to start a podcast on apple. And now obviously apple have been. Yeah. One of the original gangsters, the original players in the world of podcasting, they had podcasts on the iPod like 10 years ago.
So apple podcasts, I believe is the most listened to podcast directory probably slowly or slowly being caught up with by Spotify. But it's still number one. So if you. Have a podcast and you don't have it on apple, then yours is ridiculous. You basically have to have your podcasts on apple to have a real podcast that how do you actually go about doing that?
So the way podcasting works is you don't actually upload your audio to apple, apple. Don't do that service. You need a separate application. So you need a podcast hosted, for example, be caster that you're on a domain right now. Check us out 14 day free trial, very cheap. After that, we optimized for marketers and businesses.
So good to be cuffed at FM, check that out. There are other options, but the first thing you need to do is create a podcast in a podcast host, you simply create the podcast, add relevant details, and then you add your podcast image. A podcast episode and your description, your title and description. Once you have that, you're ready to submit it to apple, the image and us be greater than a 1,400 pixels by 1,400 pixels.
And it must be a JPG or a P N G. That's very important. So once you've done that, you can go to podcasts, connect.apple.com, and then you have to create an apple ID. If you don't have one already, if you do have one, you log in. If you don't, you have to create one. Once you've done that, you're login in.
You'll get to a screen where there'll be a plus sign. That plus sign, you hit that and it will give you an option to paste in an RSS feed. And an RSS feed is the URL that is given to you by your podcast host. So you go to be cast of your live podcast. You copy that. You then go to apple, you pay fame to apple and you hit submit.
Uh, firstly, we'll just validate that everything's fine. You may have to go back into be cuffs and tweak the image or tweak something in the settings. Once that's done, you hit submit that goes into apple, apple, then email you within one to three, one to four business days saying that you've been approved.
That's the process. You will then be uploading your stuff to the podcast or to be cuff going forward. And that will replicate to apple. It does take a couple of hours normally to update from your podcast, safe to apple, but it will update. Don't worry. You don't have to contact B Corp support or apple support.
So that's the process for how you start a podcast on apple. I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you in the next episode.

How to start a podcast from home. And I think if we were talking about this topic, like two years ago, it would be a much harder topic to do. Because previously many podcasts would meet the guests in person, the remote technology with not as good laterals wander those screens weren't as good. But now after the pandemic, starting a podcast from home is extremely easy.
And in this episode, I'm going to break down exactly what you need to do, what you need to know and what equipment. You will need. So first off, let's start with hardware. So you obviously need a laptop. I'm assuming if you listened to this, you probably have a laptop. You can do this on a mobile based, just so much easier on a laptop.
So you need a laptop first. You, then you don't necessarily need a good mic and external mic because you can use your hands free on the headphones. You can use the mic on your webcam or your laptop, but the audio quality is going to be poor. So we recommend the blue Yeti, which is about a hundred dollars.
I'm using it right now. Really easy to use. Great phone quality. So the second thing is a microphone. If you have a laptop, And if you have a good internet connection, and if you have a microphone, you can, that's basically, you're basically there, let's go into some more advanced topics now. So we also need, uh, a mechanism to speak to our guests.
Now we recommend that she just recording on zoom. It's free under 40 minute calls. Everybody now knows how to use it. The video and audio is always great. So we recommend recording episodes on zoom, but at the same time, we also recommend recording episodes, recording the audio for you locally on your machine on or Udacity, totally free software.
Very easy to use. So you record both on zoom and audacity, so you get great quality for your audio, but you also don't make it hard for the guests, uh, trying to get them to use some complex tour. So you've got the laptop. You've got the mic. You've got a DASSI, you've got the theme. You've got a good internet connection.
That's basically all you need. Now. Of course, you need to go and find guests. You need a topic to talk about. We use Calendly to book and guests, so we'll go out to LinkedIn to find gas. We'll get referrals from old guests. We'll send them a link to Calendly a book into our calendar that integrates with zoom.
So that the zoom link is added automatically into the calendar invite. So you just jump on the calendar. Like when it's time for the episode, after the episode, we then upload all our stuff to Google drive. Uh, our whole, we have an agency equal fame. The whole thing is remote. We, all of our clients, we run 18 podcasts for clients, big businesses, small businesses, none of the assets have ever been in-person.
So it's all remote. Everything's done from home. And this is the beauty of the internet. And the podcasting world today is you can be completely remote. You can do everything from home and the podcasts can sound as professional as that would be in a podcast studio. Yeah, just a final note on that. You get better.
The audio, if you're in a small room with soft walls, that's essentially what a podcast do you do is they have great mix. The rooms are small and they have soft. So if you can record in a room that has. It is small and as soft rock walls, you're going to get better sound quality so you can even record and your cupboard has softballs cause it's probably close and it's probably quite small.
That will get you better sound quality. But again, that's kind of advanced stuff. As long as you have a blue Yeti, you have a laptop, you have a good internet connection. You're going to be able to create great audio content. That is all for this episode on how to start a podcast from home. Thank you so much for listening.

Okay, let's talk about how to start a podcast on Spotify. And before we jump into that, let's understand why you'd want to start a podcast on Spotify. Well, Spotify had been investing obviously heavy in audio for the whole world, but then for the whole of their like existence. But then at the same time, they'd been investing heavily in podcasts over the past three to four years, they poked around again, they bought podcast production houses, they bought Gimlet.
And so. The reason you want to be on Spotify is they are building an insane suite of tools for podcasters. And you want to have your show there because over time they're going to be attracting more podcasters and therefore more listens is a great place to get your show found. So here's the process for.
Getting your podcast or how to start a podcast on Spotify, Spotify, don't actually host all your files. You need a separate application to host. Now cost is one of them. There are plenty of others because it's optimized for marketers. It's optimized for businesses. So go and create a free trial with decaf.
Just check it out. create a free trial, and this is what we need first, because we need to get your audio and your images and your descriptions onto an RSS feed. And then we put the RSS feed in Spotify. They do that now that's step one. Once you have an episode with the image and the description uploaded in, because that's really easy, it's very intuitive.
If you can't work out how to do it, contact or support, then you need to go to Google, Spotify for podcasters, and then you'll come to a domain that is podcasts or spotify.com. Once you're there, you can log in. Once you've logged in or created an account, you can click get started. Once you've done that.
You'll have to agree to some terms and conditions. And after that, you're simply going to take the RSS feed from paste that into, uh, the, the box. So you'll see that Spotify is asking for your podcast RSS feed. Once you've done that, you'll have to then select your country language category hosting provider.
Um, And then once you've done that you hit submit your podcast is going to be a Spotify. Very, very soon after that, in that same dashboard, you can go podcasters to spotify.com. You'll see all the stats you'll be able to choose your trailer. You'll be at a, uh, fee how many followers you have, et cetera. And then all the analytics will come back into beat cast with the rest of the analytics, from apple podcasts, uh, pocket cars, et cetera, from all the other directories.
So in short, that is how you start a podcast on Spotify. I hope this was helpful and I'll see you in the next episode.

Transcript:
How much does it cost to start a podcast, really, as much of a, you want it to cost is the real answer. But I think let's break this down into like a very streamlined approach and then a, like a more lavish approach. Then we're going down the streamline approach, really the minimum to actually make some impact.
You actually have to spend money on two things. The first thing is a microphone. If you don't have a good mic, It's going to sound rubbish. You're never going to get any business. So they've definitely something worth investing in. We recommend the blue Yeti. There'll be a link below about a hundred dollars.
The second thing you need is good software to host and distribute your audio. Again, there are free options, but they don't have the power. They don't have the feature that you need to actually get listeners. And so be cast, we start at 50, no, actually $12 a month. So I think. Everything else can come for free.
You can use zoom for free to record audio. You can use audacity for free to record audio locally on your computer. You can use Calendly for free for booking and guests. LinkedIn is obviously free for finding guests. Uh, you can do the design work yourself. So the two minimum things you need to get started in the, in the very like streamlined version.
Obviously you're going to be using a laptop, which I assume you have or computer that I assume you have. Is a hundred dollars one off and then about $12 per month, two for the hosting. So the whole thing basically, or you upload all your audio, all the information about the episodes and they will distribute to all the directories YouTube.
You can do loads of extra cool stuff on that to help get the content out there. So a get good content with the mic, be get the content out there with a good podcast hosting solution, such as cost. Of course. So that's a streamlined version, hundreds hundred straight up in the $12 per month. The more lavish version.
You could spend a couple of a hundred dollars on a better mic. You could invest in getting premium version of zoom. You could get premium version of Callan Lee. You could buy a new laptop. You could buy Southwest. That's just the script that will help you edit. Um, so all this stuff, it could go up to thousands of dollars to get started.
If you wanted to, you could rent out a podcast studio. These are all things you could do that will add marginal increases to your. To the quality of your show. So what we actually recommend is starting with a streamlined version. Once you see listeners wants you to maybe make some revenue from affiliate, once you maybe make some revenue from sponsors, then you can start investing more.
Maybe getting a producer, getting an editor, renting out a studio, getting a better mic, buying better software, but there's no point doing that. If you don't know if your content is going to resonate with your audience. So start off with a streamlined solution and then move forward to it and start investing more.
As you see the audience grow. And as you see the revenue from your podcast also grow. So to summarize, pick up a blue Yeti, sign up for a free trial at be cost $12 a month. After that, if you pay annually $15 a month, if you pay a monthly and you can get started with your pocket cost today at very low cost.

Transcript:
Okay. And in this episode, we're talking about how to start a podcast and make money. So we're going to dig into the four different ways you can possibly make money with your podcast. Three, you probably know about. Number four is probably the most powerful. And you probably do. Don't know about it. So let's dig right into this now.
So starting a podcast, there are other episodes in this series that you can go and check out. If you Google, how to start a podcast, you'll probably find them off you head to our blog. We have a blog post called how to start a podcast that will take you through the full process. The here let's talk more about making money.
So the four ways you can make money from your podcast can be split into four categories. The first of which is through affiliate. So there is you building an audience and they're selling someone else's product. In response to that, that person will then come back to you and give you a commission. It could be 20%.
It could be 50%. For example, with beak after podcast hosting software, you can sign up to our affiliate program and we'll pay you 40% of any sales that you make for us. And so the great thing about affiliate revenue is that it's really easy to start with. You can have a small audience and actually make some revenue because you can focus all of your time on building the audience and not making a product, which is a whole other thing.
And so this is why this is first on the list is because it's very easy to get started with. So you can start a podcast or release some episodes, start building an audience, and then you could say, read out an ad for someone else's product on the show, using audio inserts feature. You can insert that. To your complete backlog, run that for a week, send people to your hour where they will be able to purchase that product.
And then you will be given a revenue split on that. So that's affiliate it's the first one. It's. But probably not the most sustainable form of revenue, but it's the easiest one. And the fastest one to get started with next. I want to call out the next strategy, which is sponsorship. So as you're growing the audience, maybe you're getting a bit of affiliate revenue.
You can reinvest that revenue into maybe some ads to grow the show, or maybe a better editor to make the content better. You can then start to reach out to sponsors. And so a sponsor is someone who will just pay you in order to get exposure to your audience. And so if you're early on the, the best way to do this is by writing up a Google doc of what you're offering.
You can say for X amount per month for three months, I'm going to give you this. And I'm only taking one or two sponsors on because we're very early. And I have, I'm speaking to a couple of other sponsors, would you be interested? And then you get them to pay upfront or pay the pay month by month, Lester fed $250 a month because you only have like 500 downloads a month included in that you also tagged them in your social pro posts.
And you also leave those ads in there forever, if you would like. And so once you had the pitch for that, you then go out to other people that have. That would like to sell to the audience that you're building and then just pitch them, say I'm only taking one or two. Uh, would you be interested in speaking to curfew of your fuel competitors?
That's how you do it. So that's sponsorship. So you can start doing that when your audience gets to 500,000 downloads a month, and then you can obviously make more, the more downloads you have, the multiple of food you can have, and therefore the more revenue you make, big podcasts like Joe Rogan or Tim Ferris, they read out like eight sponsorship ads to the start of the show because they can, because the audience is so big.
So that small ship next up is actually selling your own products or services. So this is slightly later down the route because you have to develop your own product or service. Of course now is probably the most profitable. And the most sustainable. And, and by the way, I'm saying, selling your own products or services to your audience, that's a different differentiation Asian.
So it's the most sustainable and most profitable over time. Uh, but you do need a decent audience, thousands of downloads a month, really to make this work, whether you're selling a B to C product or a B to B product. And the number four, which is actually the same thing as selling your own products or services, but it's to your guests.
And so that is a really big shift. It's by being strategic about who you bring on to your show. Yes. They have to be able to add value to the audience if they don't...
How To Start A Podcast Network
How To Start A Podcast

Okay, how to start a podcast. Network. Now the first thing to understand is that starting a cook-off network is very similar to starting a podcast. First, you need to really, who is the audience? What is the positioning of your show and why should someone subscribe to an individual podcast? Right. And so I assume.
Now that you're looking at starting a podcast network that you've already done, that you have a successful podcast, but for every other new podcast in your network, you have to make sure what's the bursting. What's the strategy. And why should someone subscribe? If you, if you do that for every show, then you're, it's very likely that your podcast network is going to succeed.
Aside from that, which is really the most important thing. There is some logistical stuff. There is a bit of software technical stuff that you need to set up as well. And so we actually, well, the first thing you really need is a podcast host somewhere to host your podcasts that allow you to have multiple or even unlimited podcasts.
And so what we have is a solution where, uh, for earliest account, you can only have one show for our middle account. You can have three and four, our top account. You can have. A total of our limited podcast. So for our legendary account, you could come and you can start your podcast network on B cast. It would be very easy.
It would be very simple. You can give different people in your team access to different podcasts. You can create a separate website, a separate domain for each podcast on your network and the experience who's going to be very easy for you to upload and get those shows growing. That'd be cuffs. We. Focus on building software that helps businesses and marketers grow their show.
And so if you're looking to grow your podcast network, generate sponsorship, generate revenue for products or services, then big cost is probably the best place for you. But to summarize starting a podcast network is very similar to starting podcasts. You have to make sure that each podcast is going to be successful in the network.
And then you just need to ensure that your hosting solution allows you to have multiple podcasts and it's optimized for the growth of your podcast network. So I hope this episode helped you in your quest to start a podcast network. I look forward to speaking to you in the next one.
