In this podcast episode Albert Bellamy talks to my Greensboro College students about LinkedIn. Over the past 4 months Al has seen some massive growth on LinkedIn and established his own personal brand as an aspiring analyst. He has even taken over the LinkedIn page for the "How to Get an Analytics" channel and within a little bit over a month grown the company page by 4x.
Albert breaks down how to create engaging content on LinkedIn, how to build out an effective LinkedIn profile and also talks about the LinkedIn algorithm. An interesting insight he touched on too is how LinkedIn is a "content poor" social media platform. This means that not many people are posting regularly at the moment. This is a great opportunity for you to fill the void and make a big bang on the platform if you start creating well written and thoughtful content.

In this Tactical Tuesday episode John David and Dr. Hall talk to Jason Krantz about the skills you need to cultivate to land your ideal analytics job. Jason makes the argument that hard skills, while important, are no longer as much as a differentiator on the job market. Analytics hard skills are becoming more commoditized as new tools are being put out on the market place. It is much harder to develop business knowledge or acumen which he believes is the true skill that will help you stand out during an interview.

Most analysts are not great at advocating for themselves.

We’ve helped analysts negotiate $30k, $40k and even a $50k raise.

Here’s a concept that you can use to ask for more money...

ANCHORING

If you are currently working a job that pays you well beneath market value then you’re at a steep disadvantage from a negotiation stand point.

Your manager associates you with a low salary and potentially even low value to the company.

This is where ANCHORING comes into play.

In terms of negotiation, your value in your manager's mind is anchored at a low point. Any negotiation will be in comparison to where you currently are. This means you need to pull off a MAJOR win to get even a small raise.

One way to get anchoring on your side is to quantify the impact of your work in your resume and apply for a new job.

Your new employer doesn’t need to know your old salary.

You can just highlight the economic impact that you’ve had in that previous role.
