Edwina Hagon is a designer and maker who writes on the side. She launched her brand, Hagon Workroom, in November 2021, with a collection of one-of-a-kind shirts that she repurposed from antique and vintage tablecloths sourced locally in Sydney. Hagon Workroom is not her first foray into fashion, In the past she has run a separate fashion brand, was the Lifestyle Editor and New York correspondent for the famed RUSSH magazine, worked for GrandLife New York magazine and has also worked with with various lifestyle and culture brands.

She’s currently developing new styles, once again using reclaimed materials, mostly vintage and deadstock fabrics, and experimenting with traditional craft techniques with the intention to create garments that are both functional and playful. For her, it’s about creating garments without creating waste by optimising what is already available.

Natalie Joos is a Belgium-born, US based, fashion designer. Her career in fashion has had a few incarnations. She began her career managing the studio of acclaimed photographer, Craig McDean. She then began her own casting agency, based in New York, which she founded in 2003. In 2010 she launched her blog, Tales of Endearment, focusing on the vintage stylings of various influential creatives from around the world. Her blog has since turned into a book of the same name. More recently she has created a fabulous knitwear brand from her now-native LA. Her brand, JoosTricot, is the home of the perfect fitted sweater. Any one of her designs are the ideal accompaniment to a vintage look. Natalie also happens to have so much vintage clothing that there is a room in her place solely dedicated to housing it - now that's the dream!

Marion Boyce is an internationally renowned costume designer working across film and television in Australia and overseas. She has been nominated for an Emmy and a Costume Designer’s Guild Award and won the AACTA Award for Best Costume Design in a Television Series and the same award for Best Costume Design in a Feature Film. Wow.
She’s famously designed costumes for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and, one of my favourite films, The Dressmaker. Beyond that she has designed for multiple films and series, and worked with some of the best people in show business. She has also designed a number of touring exhibitions.

Marion is a generous soul with who also has fabulous personal style as well as the largest collection of vintage I have ever seen! I hope you love this episode as much as we do.

How to Be Fabulous with Charlotte Dallison - A Fashion Fairytale + A History Lesson: The Bonnie Cashin Archive with Dr Stephanie Lake
play

07/25/22 • 52 min

This week’s guest is Dr. Stephanie Lake. Stephanie is the fifth scholar in the world to earn a Ph.D. in Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture. Stephanie established herself as a decorative arts curator before opening her gorgeous jewellery design firm, Stephanie Lake Design. Her one of a kind jewellery designs are informed by her work as a curator, archivist and auction specialist. Towards the beginning of her career, while living in Manhattan, Stephanie became part of the four-person team that launched Sotheby’s Fashion Department. Together, with her scholarly work, this led to a friendship with the fashion designer Bonnie Cashin, now known as the "mother" of American sportswear. After forming this friendship Stephanie then went on to curate major retrospectives of Bonnie Cashin’s work in the US and Japan and then published the definitive biography of the designer with Rizzoli New York. Upon Bonnie Cashin’s death, Stephanie became Bonnie’s sole heir. With that she created a multi-million dollar network of philanthropic programs in Bonnie Cashin’s name, and owns Bonnie Cashin’s personal deign archive. The archive is among the most significant single-designer archives in existence today.

Natasha Lester is a New York Times best-selling author based in Perth, Western Australian. She once worked in the very fabulous role as a marketing executive for L’Oreal before doing an MA in creative writing and going on to pen and publish eight books (with the 9th on its way). If you’ve ever read any of her novels you’ll notice that fashion is often a theme, with many of her stories centring on fashion houses of yesteryear against the glamorous backdrop of Paris. When she’s not writing, she loves collecting vintage fashion, travelling, reading, practicing the art of fashion illustration as well as spending time with her three children. Her latest book, The Three Lives of Alix St Pierre, is out now internationally, and she’s soon set to release her ninth novel, The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard, which you can pre-order in North America now.
