Judge Jules is a DJ superhero. Playing to huge crowds, running his own events (some legal and some not so much), hosting radio shows, signing and releasing anthems - all whilst managing to hold down a successful career in law. Many might know him from his days on Radio 1 where he hosted a must-listen to show for well over a decade, or you might have even seen him play at an event like his own Judgement Sundays in Ibiza and some of us have been lucky enough to catch him during those peak late 90s years at his iconic residency at Sheffield's Gatecrasher superclub. We discuss all of this in the interview, where we also get the lowdown on how he actually manages his day job and how this informs his own nocturnal activities.

027: Slipmatt
House Culture
11/11/20 • 73 min
Slipmatt is a hero of the hardcore scene and is quite rightly known as the Godfather Of Rave. Fascinated with playing vinyl on his parents’ record player before he could even walk, the young Matt Nelson quickly developed a thirst for soul music that lead him to start buying imported records at an extremely young age. Inspired by a DJ in a local Essex nightclub, Slipmatt was perfectly placed for the rave explosion that soon followed and played at every legendary event that took place during that time. Also having enjoyed chart success as one half of SL2 as well as helping run a pirate radio station back in the day, Slipmatt’s story is a fascinating journey through the scene that brings us right up to now where he still rocks dancefloors with his unmatched technical ability behind the decks.
