Holistic Interior Design Podcast

This week is a special replay of a past episode, episode 35, Do You Need an Interior Design Degree? This question is consistently among the ones I am most frequently asked, and so now, about 100 episodes later, I want to make sure we address this important topic again. There isn’t a simple yes or no answer that applies to everyone, so in this episode, I share my personal path to becoming an interior designer as well as alternative paths you could take. If you’re thinking about becoming an interior designer, this episode will help you determine the direction that’s best for you.

135: Networking Newbies: Top 5 Mistakes New Interior Designers Make

This week, I’m taking on a suggested topic from a podcast listener, a new interior design firm that wants to learn more about networking. I believe networking can be a gamechanger in the interior design industry, so learning how to make meaningful connections from the start is really important. But when you’re new, there’s a few common mistakes you might make. I’m sharing 5 of those mistakes and how you can avoid them so you can start building a strong network right from the start.

If you’re looking to build your network and you’re in the San Diego area, I encourage you to join us for the next ASID meeting and a live audience podcast event. It’s all about how to publish your work and get noticed, and we’ll have a publisher, a photographer, and a PR person giving their tips. The event is November 15 at 5:30 PM in Encinitas. To learn more and join us, visit the designcoven.com/join. This event is a free community event.

137: How to Publish Your Work & Get Noticed

I’m excited to share with you the first episode we’ve recorded with a LIVE audience! I moderated a panel all about publishing for an ASID chapter meeting held at the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) in Encinitas. We covered the key components of getting your work published, including hiring photographers, building your social media, and pitching your stories to editors with our talented and expert panelists: Architectural Photographer Jim Brady, President & Group Publisher at Modern Luxury Ken St. Pierre; and nationally-recognized communications expert and Creative Director of Experiences, Alexandria Ott.

Jim, Ken, and Alex generously shared their perspectives on how interior designers today can stand out and get their work featured, whether they’re seasoned designers or are just starting to build their businesses. There’s so many amazing tips shared in this one discussion, and the best part is that you can put many of these tips into action today! Even if you weren’t able to join us live and in-person for this session, you can still soak in all the info and the energy when you listen to this episode.
