I am so excited you’re here! Welcome to the Holistic Health for Moms podcast, where I help moms have more energy, better health, and feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin. Hey! I’m Jennifer. A wife, mother of 3 amazing boys, and a Christ-follower. I’ve been a Nurse Practitioner for almost a decade, and I have seen many patients who were searching for answers but got prescriptions instead. It hurt my heart to see women who wanted answers and solutions, to only be given prescriptions and vague directions in the form of “eat better and exercise.” They needed to get out of the traditional healthcare box, and I wanted to help. So I started doing some digging on my own and learned how to better help women like me that wanted more than platitudes and a prescription. I discovered Lifestyle Medicine which is NOT a “quick fix diet” but a sustainable way to balance family, life, and health. Ya’ll... I’m in a PSA (Public Service Announcement) kinda mood because over the last several weeks I have talked to women young and old that aren’t sure about what they need as far as healthcare and weren’t aware of things that would be very helpful for their healthcare provider to know.

NOW...this is not to say the healthcare provider shouldn’t be asking questions regarding these issues/concerns, however, we all know that knowledge is power and I want to give you the knowledge to empower yourself the next time you go to your yearly physical or even for a sick visit.

As women sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves and it just doesn’t occur to us that some details are important, however, lifestyle medicine includes your family in your healthcare both genetically and psychosocially.

Knowing your family history is very important for your healthcare provider to take care of you as thoroughly as possible.

Please know this is not medical advice. I am discussing guidelines that have been agreed upon from many governing bodies of the medical profession.

Let's start by addressing the basics. Our bodies are equipped with built-in detoxification systems, primarily the liver and kidneys, which work tirelessly to eliminate toxins and waste. However, in our modern world filled with processed foods, environmental pollutants, and stress, these organs can become overwhelmed.

Proponents of cleansing argue that periodic detoxes can support our body's natural detoxification processes, giving them a much-needed break and helping to reset our health. They often tout benefits such as improved digestion, clearer skin, and heightened mental clarity.

But critics warn against the dangers of extreme detoxes, such as juice fasts or restrictive diets, which can deprive the body of essential nutrients and lead to nutrient deficiencies, muscle loss, and even metabolic damage.

Before embarking on any cleanse or detox program, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure it's safe and appropriate for you.
