Hey Strangeness

Hey Strangeness

Hey Strangeness

Come hang out with us every every so often as we take a deep dive into the unnamed and unseen horrors which dwell at the edge of what we perceive as reality. Why is Texas so weird? What's the deal with Gnomes? Who was Tom Slick? What is the Texas Dogman Triangle? We may not have the answers (we don't), but we have plenty of questions.

Hey Strangeness - The Southwest Sasquatch (And The Role of Hoaxes)
play

11/12/21 • 42 min

Sasquatch has a long and interesting history in Texas. We dig into sightings from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization database, some known hoaxes, and then wax poetic about whether or not false sightings can be a good thing.

This episode was a weird one. We almost scrapped it and started over, but that seemed a waste. What was supposed to be an episode on Sasquatch in Texas turned into something else entirely, and we're still not completely satisfied with the overall flow. That said, it was a lot of fun to research, record and edit and we'd love to know your thoughts.

It's Hispanic Heritage Month! La Lechuza is an old, old story which is deeply engrained in the oral tradition of many Latin American cultures. Is it a cryptid, spectral being, misidentified owl, or something else entirely? We don't know, but that doesn't stop us from spending almost an hour trying to figure it out.

Hey Strangeness - The Texas Dogman Triangle
play

It's time for Dogman. Join us on a semi-deep dive into all things Dogman (not shapeshifters) and a trio of sightings very specific to central Texas. People I name drop in this episode include Seth Breedlove, Joedy Cook, Asherz, The Manic Pixie Dream Ghouls, the Mothboys, Tyler Strand, basically everyone who was at Cryptid Bash, Dogman, and many many more. Cryptid Bash recap followed by a lengthy talk on werewolves. Also the Mothman song, because you know, Mothman.

Hey Strangeness - The Serial Killer Ghost of Blanco County
play

07/20/21 • 22 min

In 1885 a man named Al Lackey tried to murder his entire family... with... moderate success. Why? Where? Are phantom hitchhikers real? Cats are cute, but why are they ALSO so annoying? We may or may not figure all this out on Episode 2 of Hey Strangeness. A little bit of true crime, a little bit of paranormal, a lot of "this is okay, you guys are doing an alright job I guess."

Brought to you by Chupacabra Chow.

The Lone Star State has a rich history of UFO sightings which continue to this day. We look at some historical cases, some VERY recent ones, and also teach you how to survive an alligator attack and avoid going missing in deep bodies of water. What's going on with Lake Travis? Where are all these cylinders coming from? Alligators? Yes. That's all we got is yes. Links below to cited articles and guest appearances :D

Hey Strangeness - The Many Adventures of Tom Slick
play

10/28/21 • 52 min

It's been a little bit since our last episode. Bummer. But to celebrate spooky season we're back with episode 6 featuring... a look back at the life of a millionaire from Texas. Huh. We were gonna do a Halloween special, but we didn't write one. What we DID write was this. Audio was recorded a few weeks ago so it's a bit out of date and came around before our NEW LOGO which we absolutely love. More on that later.

In the first full episode of Hey Strangeness in over a year we take a deep dive (despite numerous technical problems, changing studios and long gaps between recording) into the supernatural world of The Simpsons. Chances are it's a lot stranger than you think.

This interview was originally recorded in September of 2022. Despite it sitting on my computer for months and months, Jeff and I agreed that it would be a waste not to share it. Jeff gave me the inside scoop on some of what goes on behind the scenes of Strangeology, and the dude is always just great to talk to, man. Be sure to check out the links below to see Jeff's work, and after the interview there's a short preview of our next full episode - The Supernatural Simpsons.
