Helping Healing Humor

Helping Healing Humor

Ben and Travis

Did you know that a 2018 Lifeway study showed that 49% of ministers say they never talk to their churches about mental illness? The same study found that 59% of Christians suffering from mental illness said that they wanted their church leaders to speak more openly on the subject. We strive to normalize the discussion about mental health among Christians. Ben, a licensed professional counselor, also provides valuable insight for the family members and friends of those who suffer from mental illness to help their loved one during their time of need. Ben and Travis are joined by longtime friends Ray Reynolds and Travis Harmon on the campus of Heritage Christian University for the annual TITUS (Teens in Training for Useful Service) Camp. The fellows tackle the question of "What is the first thing you tell a new Christian?"

Ray tells us how he helps new Christians who have just made a public declaration of war against the devil by giving their lives to King Jesus. Travis H. shares how the devil turns up the heat on those that have just given their lives to Jesus which culminates in the idea of "never quit."

The church needs to fight for our people and especially our young people. We need to be prepared for a lifetime of temptation. Ray shares how difficult it might be for those who were not raised in the church to understand the things that we do in our worship and work. Travis C says this could be the case even for those who were raised in the faith. Churches should consider a new convert classes.

Travis H encourages churches to create a culture of expecting visitors and doing things in our churches that help educate visitors of our practices and help visitors feel comfortable and welcome.

The episode closes out with Ray sharing details about the very unique Titus Camp, where kids from around the world and all over the states come to learn how to lead and serve.

Travis H shares about HCU and the Heritage Event coming up in August with Bo Jackson and Home Free.
