Undesigned Coincidences
Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength
12/20/23 • 9 min
The concept of "undesigned coincidences" in the Bible refers to seemingly incidental details that clarify or resolve ambiguities in other passages. For example, in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, an apparent inconsistency about Jesus being asked to identify who struck him is resolved as Luke mentions that Jesus was blindfolded. Similarly, unnoticed details about Jacob's relationships with his wives Leah and Rachel, and the significance of Leah's son Judah, hint at deeper meanings in the biblical narrative. These details potentially reflect implicit truths and broaden interpretations.

God, the Bible, and Slavery
Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength
01/02/24 • 18 min
This week, we look at the issue of slavery in a biblical context. We will acknowledge the challenge it poses for Christians in reconciling such practices with the concept of a good and loving God. We will argue that God may allow behavior He finds immoral due to the flawed nature of man. We'll take a look at a couple of passages about slavery and talk about the difference between servanthood and slavery. We also cover the idea that God established some controls around slavery to prevent further harm, as a parent would set boundaries around a rebellious teenager's behavior. Ultimately, it seems fair to say that God despised slavery but permitted it with certain limitations.

We all carry certain beliefs, many of which guide our decisions and interactions. While some of these beliefs may be false, the challenge lies in establishing which ones are accurate. Our level of certainty varies across different beliefs, and it's crucial to remain humble and open-minded during discussions. Challenging our beliefs helps refine them and promotes growth. Encouraging respectful dialogue and understanding can lead to a less divided society.

Do People go to Hell for no Believing in Jesus?
Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength
01/23/24 • 9 min
Does unbelief cause someone to spend eternity in Hell? Or is it that we are justly condemned for our sin? The moment sin entered the world, God launched a plan of salvation to bring us back to Himself. It's the sin the keeps us from Him. Not believing in Jesus is just a way of rejecting the only solution we have to be with God forever.

Life is Complex
Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength
08/27/24 • 7 min
In today's culture, oversimplification is widespread, evident in politics, health, religion, and worldviews. People categorize others based on group identities, overlooking individual uniqueness. While treating groups based on group identity can work at times, acknowledging individual differences is essential. Recognizing the complexity of humanity and engaging with individuals openly can lead to better understanding and even appreciation, despite disagreements.

Is Christianity a Blind Faith
Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength
02/14/24 • 8 min
Can Christianity be described as a blind faith? It depends on what you mean by "faith." Rather than using a separate definition of faith for religious belief than we use for other concepts, it would be better to use the same definition in all situations. When we do, we find that almost everything contains an element of blind faith.
