Gruesome Gossip - 1.46 | The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam
play

01/29/21 • 27 min

Ever since hearing about Elisa Lam's untimely death years ago, her story has really stuck with Marti. She's never been able to shake it and finds it to be truly disturbing for a variety of reasons. So, of course, she's excited to finally share it with all of you. In 2013 Elisa Lam was a 21-year-old college student who decided to take a solo trip to California from British Columbia. What started out as a much-needed vacation would, unfortunately, become one of the internet's most infamous cold cases. Between the bizarre footage of her final moments to the way in which her body would eventually be found, this case has a lot of twists and turns. Her story has garnered a cult following and a slew of armchair detectives eager to find answers.

Special Note: This episode was recorded before Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel was released on Netflix. Even though it's received mixed reviews, I (Britany) found it interesting and it answered a lot of the questions I had about Elisa's case that were discussed in this episode.

Gruesome Gossip - 1.47 | The Moskvin Dolls
play

02/05/21 • 17 min

Hey, remember those dolls from the 1980s?? You know, the child-sized dolls called "My Buddy"? Well, this story is NOT about those, but maybe if Anatoly Moskvin had been given one as a child he wouldn't have felt the need to create his own life-size dolls as an adult. And by life-size dolls of course I mean real human corpses he played dress-up with and kept in his modest two-bedroom apartment. In this week's episode, things get weird as we discuss one of Russia's most interesting grave robbing doll makers! After all, everyone needs a hobby, right?

play

07/31/20 • 17 min

You've likely heard of the Donner Party, but have you ever heard of the Colorado Cannibal? Take a listen to this episode to find out how Alferd (and, no, that's not a typo) Packer wound up eating five men in the Colorado wilderness. With three different versions of the events being told by Packer not matching up with the evidence, is it possible these heinous acts were more than a matter of survival?

Gruesome Gossip - 1.30 | Amusement Park Ride or Death Trap?
play

08/07/20 • 17 min

In non-COVID times, August is when most states and counties are lugging in the carnival rides and funnel cakes, so Marti and I thought it might be appropriate to talk about some horrific carnival and amusement park ride injuries and deaths; including a couple of harrowing experiences of my own.

You probably know Polly as the sixth song of Nirvana's most successful album, Nevermind; which was released in 1991. What you may not know is the song’s disturbing origin story or that it's based on real events. Kurt Cobain had actually written the song back in 1988 and it's based on a horrible crime that had taken place the year before. You’ll never be able to hear the song quite the same way again after you listen to this week’s episode!
